hi, you are not alone i dilvered a baby 5 months ago and i still have them . i was never constipated b4 in my life not even in pregnency,but now my stool is dry and hard if i dont take care of my diet. Eat prunes,cesteroil in warm milk at night,dont eat white rice,eat butter,and all gravey food not any dry one.Eat fruites like orange,grapes,pears are the best and red beans.I will sugesst u to get some homeupathy medicine as well.

Are you breast feeding? If you are you may be dehydrated and not taking in enough water. Even if you are not breast feeding you need to make sure you are properly hydrated. It will also help you lose weight faster. Also avoid foods like rice, bananas and especially corn. These all are great foods and work to help stop diarrhea, but can have the opposite effect if you have constipation.

I would tell you r dr if you haven't already that the med he/she prescribed isn't working & you want something else. Otherwise you can try over the counter meds to help with loosening your stool. My sister had problems with this & they gave her enimas that she used every evening. This seems to really help her out. Hope you find something that helps you.

piles are the worst and when you do manage to go to the loo try putting a step under your feet while your on the loo and lean forward it opens your back passage more and relax you can get some pile gel for your back passage and that will help shrink the piles and when in doubt go get it checked out better to be safe than in a heap of pain, after I had my 3rd child I had my back opp and I was that blocked up when I finally did pass a poo the nurse thought I had my period I bled that much so please get it checked out even check with your health nurse or try another doctor.

ihave had it after all 3 of my pregnancies, to the point where i would take strong pain meds just to go to the bathroom, it lasted over a year after my first child, i swear it hurt more than the actual birth, i felt like i just got the pain under control when my 2nd was born and the pain came back, then the pain lasted several months, but i had my 3rd child 2 mos ago and the pain is already gone (and has been for AT LEAST A MONTH) it does get better, and each pregnancy it gets easier, drink lots of water, take fiber suplements, and stool softeners, eat lots of fruit, and if you have to go GO dont try and hold it for fear of the pain the longer you go in between stools the worse it will get, but if you go as soon as you get the slightest hint of the need to go, the easier it will be. STAY STRONG IT DOESNT LAST FOREVER!

i eat lots of fruits and vegies like tomatoes and oranges grapes and mangos instead of stool softeners they wok great if i eat several a day i have also heard good things about avtivia

I know it sounds odd, and may not work for you, but you might try the yogurt that has the digestive encouraging elements in it. It works for me... It takes a good week (one a day) to get in your system. They say it takes 14 days. It has worked for my inconsistancies... Just a suggestion.

I have the same problem but I have noticed that eating foods with fiber helps me.
My mom use to drink hot/warm water in the morning and it would quickly start to work. How are your eating habits? I noticed that if I eat a good healthy breakfast in the morning... my stomach stays regular. But stay away from the cheese, it will constipate you even more, it does for me.

YOU MAY NEED STOOL SOFTENER PILLS, AND IF THAT DOESN'T HELP YOU SHOULD CHECK INTO SURGERY FOR HEMROIDS. I'M SO SORRY YOU HAVE SO MUCH PAIN YOUR GOING THROUGH AFTER THE BIRTH OF YOUR CHILD. THESE SHOULD BE TIMES OF JOY. I REALLY HOPE YOU CAN GET THE PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF QUICKLY.

That same thing happened to me the whole time I was pregnant and for some time after I still get it occationally in fact my mom made a joke when I was pregnagnt she said "too bad you cant have the baby out of that whole it would probebly be easier" LOL that was real funny. I found that eating Blue berrys and drinking that blueberry pom drink really helps them to be softer and more frequent. Maybe take a fiber supplament too see if it helps

Generally giving birth does not affect the back passage, it's more likely to be haemmeroids/piles.

When I had my son, I had a mjor epesiotomy- literally cut from the vagina all the way back through the "anal sphincter" and have had the same problem you're having ever since. My OB-GYN told me I could make the following drink combination- mix an 8 oz glass of orange juice (can be real or even Sunny Delight) with 1 tablespoon of metamucil and 1 TEASPOON of mineral oil. It worked amazingly. I drank it 2 X's daily for the first 6 weeks after birth, and now just every other day or so when I feel I need it. It will not give you the diarhea, just keeps things soft and easy to pass.The Dr. had me taking it because of the epesiotomy, but when I had this problem and was too embarrased to talk to anyone else about it, I decided to try it again and it's worked wonderful! I was glad you put this topic on here and I saw I wasn't the only one with this problem! Hope things are better soon!

This happened to me after I had my first son. It was an anal fisher. My O.B. sent me to my family dr who sent me to the "butt doctor" as I like to call her. Although a high fiber diet and drinking lots of water is good for softening stool if you're in as much pain as I was soft stool can be just as painful. Go back to your dr. Mine gave be a hemmoroid cream called Analpram. Great name right! Within a week I saw much improvement. Within a month I was just about back to normal. That was 4 yrs ago now and I still have discomfort from time to time. I've just come to realize that I need to drink lots of water and make it a habit to get enough fiber in my diet. One you have an anal fisher you are prone to them. Good luck!

Also try changing your diet. See a nutritionist and describe your problem and your basic diet. They can help steer you in the right direction of foods that you can eat that will help with your problem. Sometimes that is all you need. Give a couple of weeks to work itself out and if it doesn't, go back to your doctor.

I know exactly what is wrong with you as I had this myself! You have what is called a fissure which is a tear in the bowel lining. Every time you go to the toilet it is agony because you are ripping open the fissure again. I was put on supositories to help but nothing worked and I was refered to hospital in the mean time I went away to spain on holiday and got the worst stomach upset for three days. This being said I suppose it gave the bowel enough time to heal the fissure completly so I needed no further treatment. i know the pain you are in so go back to the doctor and ask to be refered to a surgeon as this can be easily treated with a patch. Believe me the relief is instant there is no need to suffer anymore. Good luck. xx

I to had the same problem after i had my son it was so hard to go to the bathroom and when i finally went it felt like i was re-opening mystitches...i had to get cut from front to back when i had my son and it hurt for the first few months. my muscles would cramp up and could barley pee also. It finally went away and is back to normal. I was told by many people that it was hemroids also. there are times that my muscles still tense up when i go to the bathroom or intercourse even...its been 6 months now and it still happens once in a while. If i was you i would go back to the doctor and get another exam but more thural(sp)...

You need a stool softener I would take 2 of them a night or at lease one a day everyday. That is some serious hurtful and painful, eat lots of greens and fruits that will help alot.No honey it happens alot kick your doctor for not recommending stool softeners to you they are available over the counter. I've had the same problem and not because of giving birth - my twins came with CC - and I had it before I even got pregnant. Nothing helped, always pain and nobody there to ask what to do, Doctors mmhhh oh well - always the same unsatisfied answers.
I used the softener (over the counter) and tried many different until I found one, which didn't make me run the whole night and gave me relieve without pain. Now I am without and fine. I try to avoid food what is bad for constipation, like chocolate, milk and so on. Drinking a lot of fluid - no matter what - helps as well. But sadly I have to tell you, every body works different and you have to continue trying until you will find "your way".
Even my 4 year daughter has these problems since a couple month and I am still working with her, Potty training almost impossible - at least the "big business" - she is crying and when she poop's only in a corner and always with a red head.... good luck for you and let us know...

you poor thing! I think you need to find another doctor who will help you through this. Have you tried castor oil? it is used for natural labor induction because it stimulates the bowels and causes diarrhea. Maybe one good run of it will help restore some balance. Also maybe you should do a complete colon/liver cleanse using raw foods and olive oil? It would be best to treat it naturally with things that your body can handle better than powders or synthetic medications. good luck!

Sounds as if,this may have something to do with your second degree tear,even though you don't think it could do.I had a third degree tear and can still feel exactly where it is,after 6.5 years.Sometimes it is still painful and burns.You can get scar tissue around your tear and this could cause alot of discomfort.I can imagine too,that psychologically,you must have held off going to the toilet,after the birth of your child,simply because of the pain.Lets face it,they sting and burn like hell,those first couple of weeks.I think you may need to be referred to a specialist,as it sounds as if,there is a very good reason,to discover the cause of your discomfort.You can't go on like this forever.I too would have a phobia,about going to the toilet,if it was a painful experience.Good Luck! P.S: Rosehip oil and Vitamin E oil,are great for helping heal scar tissue.You can take the Vit E orally,as well as apply the oil,to the scar area...it wont sting.Rosehip oil,is also good for applying to the area.It's a hard place to see where the tear area is,but I bet you can still feel,where it is...

Just agreeing w/Jessica, could be anal fishers and/hemorrhoids, my friend had them both. She pushed out a 10 pounder w/a big head. She said Flax helps her. I've tried it too!

Now to be a little personal myself and for a little laugh for you - imagine having the opposite. I had 4th degree tears (from front to back, honey) and I don't know how many time I've pooped myself, because I don't have the best control anymore! YIKES! So - it could be worse - although normal would be ideal! Good luck! Happy pooping! ;)

you are not alone i had 3rd degree tears wit my daughter and i have not been the same since i dont have the problem with stool but where was stitched hurts when i go to the toilet or even have sex and the doctors adamnet there is nothing wrong so i guess its all part of having a child try using gliserine bullets they worked wonders for me when i had stitches

Hmm, looks like there cud be two culprits.
1. Sometimes due to changed position of the rectum and large intestine, the bowl movement is slow. Slow means the water from stool is absorbed more than normal, making it harder and difficult to move.
I had this due to endometriosis, which had made my large intestine a big clumsy ball instead of the neatly placed pile. I was laproscopically operated and everything fine.
2. To treat it immediately, try PILEX from HIMAYAYAS. It works like magic.
Take two tablets every time before meal.
For treating the sore area, apply PILEX cream which is very easy with an applicator and should be applied just before your use the toilet.
Its worked for me and I can assure you it will work for you too. Stop red chilly as it gets stuck into any cavities and will cause ulcers.

I had the same thing. My midwife said it was hemroids, caused by sitting down feeding my baby all the time & especially after childbirth. It basically means you have little pimples of blood & when you go to the toilet it's causing them to pop (a bit gross I know). So go for walks with your baby & yoga is also good exercise (I found that video shops rent out good videos so don't feel you have to go to a class). For treatment I had Metamucil & Aloe Vera juice which loosens everything up. Drink fresh orange juice or eat mandarins/oranges because Iron does make you constipated & iron tablets should only be taken with Vitamin C which helps to absorb the iron into your body. I found Complan a very good Vitamin drink instead of taking vitamins, you add milk & it tastes like a milkshake. Having yoghurt, apples & other fruits with citric acid in them will also help. It will change & you will slowly feel like your getting back to normal. Go with the old saying "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen!"

I feel for you because i had the same thing after the birth of son. Just like the others have said you might have hemorrhoidn which i think you do. It took me so long to heal the thing that helped me is a warm bath, eating whole wheat, drinking lots of water and taking stool softeners. The after birth affect makes me not to want to have more kids :( that how much i was in pain Good luck you.

no you are not alone i had the same problem i also take iron supplements. i take fiber it takes about a week or so for it to start working but if you take them everyday it will work you will start to have a normal stool. hope this helps.

ok I am going to be blunt:
if you are making stool and it isn't coming out and it kind of feels like you have a golf ball there you may have what is called a vaginal seal... it happens sometimes after birth when the wall of the inner vigina seals back in on itself and sort of creats a pocket ...If you pull feet your feet up and lean back sometimes it makes it easier to go? this is a sign that it may be your problem

Someone close to me needs Metamucil once a day to have a good texture of stools and avoid the kinds of tears you're talking about. It works like a charm for that person. Thank goodness I've never been in this situation! Babies really do change our bodies, though, so you might need to talk to the doc again or get a second opinion. You could have a tear, called a fissure, and need special ointment or other treatment. Metamucil is quick and easy to try, though. Good luck!

It could be hemorrhoids. Is there any itching or swelling? The hemorrhoid could be internal or you could also have a rectal tear. I'd call my doctor back. It's not fun feeling that way. Hope it gets better for you soon.

I have had some issues but nothing major. I too am on iron pills, at least till September (yuck), and they cause some minor problems, mostly gas though. I might be tempted to ask your dr again, might be something else causing it. My cousins friend, who I went to school with developed celiac after one of her pregnancies, not saying thats it, but it could be anything, or even nothing

You may have an internal hemorrhoid, which probably came about from the pushing of the baby and the pushing out of poop when you were constipated.

Drink lots of water and take a gentle stool softener, and go back to your doctor and ask him to examine you internally for hemorrhoids.

I had issues pooping right after I had my son and for like 2 or 3 months after but it returned to normal. At first I bled a little too but my doctors couldn't find any real reason for it...I don't really know what to tell you except that you're not alone!
