Tips for finding a child care provider??

My son turns one in November, at which time I'll be going back to work, and I'm dreading it because it means I'll have to leave him at a babysitter's house all day! I'm just starting to interview day homes, but I'm finding it tricky. Child care is in short supply where I live, so the babysitter is interviewing me just as much as I'm interviewing her. Does anyone have any tips, or have any questions that I should make sure I'm asking?

Thanks Lynda, but I live in a small city in Canada...I don't think those services are available to me.

Hi Krista,

I am not sure where you live but I have two suggestions. Do a web search on your county for daycare. The should be local number to your county. Anyone who provides daycare will be listed with them if they are liscensed. They can do a search based on your zipcode and send you a list of people in the area and they will tell you if they have any complaints placed against them. This took about two days. They can also do a search on just day homes for you. They are very helpful. Also, check out sittercity.com. There is a fee to join but you can put in your zipcode first and see how many people are in your area. Typically they have there picture and a brief description on their background. For an additional fee I think they can also do a background check for you. Hope that helps.
