Hi, my 4 month old daughter, Hope, has started teething!!! As exciting as this is, I am also a new mom, and want to do what is best for her, without making a big fuss out of nothing!!! (as i'm sure you can all relate!!) Anyways, I want to know whether I should brush her baby teeth when she gets them?? I also want to know if anyone knows any products that would make this easier for her and I? I hear too much about childhood cavities, and I want to start her on good habits that will last a lifetime...... what do you think??

Something else to consider is if you have flouridated water or not. We have well water (and therefore not flouridated) and I helped my daughter brush her teeth every day. When I took her to her first dentist appointment she had thirteen cavaties. I felt awful! My daughter doesn't eat very many sweets and we were brushing multiple times a day. The dentist said that she should have been taking a flouride supplement. Children's toothpastes don't have flouride in them (because the children are often too young to remember to spit it all out). Just something else to add to the mix.

Yes brush her teeth! There are baby tooth paste and tooth brushes. I believe the brand that I used is Oral gel. It is the type of tooth brush that you put on your finger and you only put a pea sized dot of paste on the brush. All you gotta do is gently massage her tooth/teeth and gums. A helpful thing I did to remind myself to brush my son's teeth is put a sign up on the bathroom mirror.

I would try to brush. Gerber has a rubber brush that you put over your finger to brush a babies teeth with (comes with baby toothpaste).

I also find it best to get her to brush her teeth with me so she gets an understanding of it .. but like I said she didnt get her first tooth until nine months : )

My daughter is 13 months old and is still getting her teeth .. she didnt get her first one until she was nine months old but we bought her a toothbrush then just to see what she would think. She loves brushing her teeth but I only give her a baby toothbrush with water and I brush them and also let her do it on her own. I will be introducing toothpaste to her soon but I dont feel comfortable giving it to her yet until she gets the concept of spitting it out .. even the baby stuff. But thats just me : )

YOU SHOULD BE CLEANING THE GUMS DAILY WITH THE FINGER CLEANER. THIS WILL ALSO GET HER USE TO HAVING HER TEETH CLEANED WITH A TOOTHBRUSH WHEN IT COMES THAT TIME. THEY MAKE TOOTHPASTE FOR INFANTS AND SHOULD BE DONE DAILY. LOTS OF BABY FOODS HAS NATURAL SUGARS THAT CAN CAUSE EROUSION OF THE TEETH, SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO BRUSH EVERYDAY.

I didnt brush my sons teeth until he really got a mouthfull...until then i just wiped them off with a warm cloth. Now that he's 16 months old I bought him a brush n he brushes all by himself (or he tries haha) I dont give him sweets to begin with n a major no no most moms do without realizing it is giving their baby something sweet to drink while their child sleeps. The bottle drips n that sugar sits round their teeth causing wats called baby bottle rot. I noticed with the baby toothpaste he likes the flavor n chews his brush so i just give him a wet toothbrush or i put VERY lill regular toothpaste on it. It wont hurt if the baby swallows a lil bit but i didnt do this till he was bout a year old.

Of course, brush. I used a soft bristle brush and baby toothpaste. Just remember, Moms, do not undo the good work of brushing and then send baby to bed with a bottle with anything in it other than water, and even that is debatable. I've seen so many rotten front teeth---it's sad.

I started brushing their teeth as they came in ... I got some baby toothpaste off the baby isle, but my baby's dr. said a soft washcloth and water would do just fine. I also got a little plastic finger brush... it came with the baby tooth paste. it's never too early to keep those little teeth healthy... you just want to avoid adult toothpastes which have some ingrediants that are harmful to baby. :) keep those pearly whites healthy...

Brush! I started of with a soft washcloth over the gums before teeth erupted. When teeth came moved to the small soft infant toothbrush. I did not use paste until they were 1 year..just water and a very soft brush. They are 5 now and do not have any cavities. Pediatric dentist office will give you professional opinions.

No replies yet?!? Um I'm sure you've had that conversation with her pediatrician right?? Of course you should brush. There are many baby tooth brushes and paste in any baby isle at a store. Start with once a day and then do it more often. If you don't brush she will get cavities.....and it could affect her adult teeth. Sometime I find it hard to remember to do it, but would you want to go 2 or 3 days with out brushing your teeth?? Hope that helped good luck!
