toddler bed?

We are going to put our son in the toddler bed when he's around 24-26 months. We have a new baby coming next week and I didn't want there to be too much transition for him since he sleeps great in his crib now and isn't tall enough to crawl out. It will turn into a toddler bed and I'll wait until I think he's ready understands that he has to STAY in his bed (that's what I'm worried about!)

my eldest was climbing out of her cot at just under a year so into a toddler bed she went, my youngest would still be in a cot til she is 15 years old, but when we moved house and i found out i am pregnang and will need the cot in 6 months we decided to put the girls in proper beds, we bought bunk beds but they are separated and so my eldest has a big girls bed and my youngest still has the railings on, my girls are 2.5 and 1.5 :)

We put our first 2 in toddler beds at 12 months. We just made sure their bedroom was safe, they had toys accessible that were safe, and a baby gate across the doorway. It wasn't a problem at all.

I don't really remember exactly how old my kids were, but I did start thinking about a bed when they started standing at the side of the crib. If your daughter is doing that, I would start thinking about one.

To start, I would suggest removing anything that they could stand on to climb out. Instead of a toddler bed, I started with taking the side off the crib to make a kind of daybed. I put pillows on the floor in case they fell out and a gate at the door so they couldn't wander the house. That way, they have the freedom of a bed but the familiararity of their crib. Give them some time to get used to it and if they do well, then put a toddler bed in the room and let them choose when to sleep in it.

We put Josephine in a toddler bed when she was 19 months old because another baby was coming 2 months later and we wanted her to forget her crib before her little brother would sleep in it so she would not get jealous. But I would have waited longer... I think 2 is a good age.

Our daughter just turned 2 last week and she is still in her crib because she still doesn't try and climb out and it has been a space issue for us, however she is so tall that when she lies down she hardly has any room so we will be moving her shortly. We also want her out of her crib before the second baby arrives so that she doesn't think the new one kicked her out of her bed.



We decided against getting a toddler bed as she will be out of it in no time because she is so tall. So we have bought a set of King Single bunk beds that come separately and are using the top one as her bed (obviously on the floor...not on top of the other one) because it has a rail. When she is used to being in her "Big Girls Bed" she will move to the other one. We figure that way we already have a bed for number 2 when the time comes as well. We took her to buy her new sheets, quilt etc on the weekend and she is very excited.

Hi we actually put our oldest daughter in a toddler bed at 16 or 17 months .she hated her crib from the age of 11 months would not sleep in it if we put her in it she would scream for hours so she got use to sleeping with mommy and daddy after that so at 16 months or so we got a toddler bed and put her in it .we had our second when oldest was 18 months old dont know when we will put her in a toddler bed because she actaully likes the crib shes 10 months old now
