My daughter will be turning 7 months soon. I've had her on a very good schedule that consists of 8oz+cereal for breakfast, 6oz+half a jar each of a veggie and a desert for both lunch and supper and a full 10oz for bedtime. Getting her to eat her veggie course has been a little of a challenge but she's doing very well, despite. Basically, what we've been doing has been working great! However, my parents have been telling me that they had me started on actual fresh cow's milk when I was 6 months. And I turned out... "fine" (lol). I know they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and everyone's got different opinions. Any proffessional advice would probly consist of keeping her on formula till she's at least 1 year old, however I know every baby is different, and such as myself, some have started at the age of 6 months. I already know HOMO is what to start her on if I had to, but my concern is I won't know if she's ready until I try, is her being on a steady schedule/diet a good time to try?.. and if I do, do I basically just replace her formula intakes with milk? How do I know how to prioritize her solids with her milk intake? Confused.

It has nothing to do with schedule and more to do with the body being ready. At 7 months, she is not ready. A child should never be changed early unless medically necessary. My son was changed at 9 months because he had reflux and was starting to lose weight and the Dr's were growing worried because no formula was working...he was throwing up when breast fed too. Soon as he changed to homo he was fine. He is now almost 3yrs old and although he is "fine" he is only 3 so i wont know any long term effects but he hasn't shown any signs of allergies and has no digestive problems. My daughter just turned 1yr on July 11 and she had to go to Soy milk first. We started the transition slowly around 11months, just adding a bit of homo in her bottle and it was horrible. I have never had a child scream so much in my life. So we put her back on full formula and then tried Soy with Dr's permission and she did great. After a few weeks we were told to try the transition her back to homo and she is now fine and been on homo for about a week now. I just don't think her digestive system was ready at 11 months to start the transition over.
Study's are done for a reason and things have changed since we were younger. My mother was always telling me my kids go could forward facing once they could hold their head well and sit unassisted...not in my eyes and my daughter will not be changed until she hits the max for her seat which is 35lbs and 32inches long so she has a ways considering my son is 30lbs and 38inches...so i hope to get until after the winter...but anyways that's another story lol.
My point is, don't feel pressured. Sure they are our mothers and they want to assure us they know best but maybe when they were raising us they knew best and were up to date on things but it's out of date now. Don't rush it, let her be little...you wont save money that's for sure lol. My daughter goes through more milk then she did formula and my son is still the same way lol. We spend at least 200 a month on milk still for the 2 kids...if not more...i know crazy!!

Giving milk too early can cause health risks such as anemia because cow's milk hinders the absorption of iron. Iron is crucial for your baby's development. The levels of protein and sodium in cow's milk is too high for a baby's system to handle. Cow's milk also doesn't contain other essential nutrients that breastmilk/formula have.

What's the hurry? Wait until she's a year old. I usually think that the experts who have been studying the effects of different foods for years know better than, mothers, grandmothers, brothers, sisters, babysitters, etc.

Yeah, and they say that they are more prone to developing allergies because the body hasn't learned what's good and what to keep out. There's bacteria in the milk that their stomachs may not be able to digest or take care of yet.

yes ur kid would prb be fine as I had milk straight from cow at 2 months. But things different now - I would wait til 9 months. Usually is between 9 and 12 months. And gradually switch her over - like 75% formula with 25% milk for a week or so, then 50/50 for example. If she is tiny though I would wait til 1 year old!

my doctor said not until 1 but the people from his daycare said that as long as he is 10 months old it's ok to give it a shot. we have started him on 1 bottle of milk in the morning's and he's been fine (started him about 1 week ago). some people have their kids on cow milk from birth. it's really up to you, but they recommend you wait until a year because milk doesn't meet the same nutritional needs as formula and some babies can't digest it so young.
