Trying for 2nd baby, ovulating kits?

LOL, Traci I had the same problem with my husband, TIMING! I would tell him his Vegas odds were good & he'd go to the gym or burn the whole day doing yard work, mind you this man was hounding me to make a baby! I finally told him "look hon if you don't put the pie in the oven you can't bake yourself nothing!" He is a police officer to boot who is always into doing all of these competitions & things & I told him that if this were a police event I'd be having triplets by now.



I called his problem user error, he actually thought that he could get me pregnant any time during the month. I went on www.askdramy.com & printed out my most fertile days & taped it to the fridge for him. I found out I was pregnant 3 days before I was to see a fertitly Dr that he was begging me to go to. I could see me explaining to that Dr why I didn't think I was pregnant was user error & lack of penis!

Checking cervical mucus sounds gross but is as simple as checking the toilet paper when you wipe. If you notice something shiny & clear, that ends up being pretty strechy it is a really positive fertility sign & it's time to do the mating dance.

If you choose to go with the lab quality tests that are cheaper off amaon so you can test twice a day you can google pictures of positive LH/ovulation tests to help clear up what a regular test looks like when it is positive.

There is a website call www.fertilityfriend.com that has some really good articles on cervical mucus. Also the prouct preseed which I think I got from www.preseed.com for about $19 helps keep the sperm alive & is a sperm friendly lube. If your cervical mucus is not thin enough the little swimmers get stuck, so it is not a bad idea. And everyone is right about the pillow under the hips for 15 to 30 minutes.

When it is time for you to test I have found the EPT tests that say pregnant or not pregnant are th emost accurate at the lowest levels of HCG.

I heard that having sex everyday is not a good idea because he needs time to build up enough sperm, I would sujest everyother or every three days! but the laying on your back with your hips elevated might help to! AND I don't believe that every woman ovualtes the same time. they can be different check into checking your cirvical postion and fluid, sounds gross but it's probably the most efective, also with the body temp! Look into it it could be helpful!

We had trouble conceving our third child so I tried the ovulation tests and it turned out I was ovulating alot later than normal . I got pregnant the day the happy face appeared. It worked for me good luck hun.

Jara: Your doctor is REALLY wrong. Like...REALLY, REALLY wrong! The LONGEST sperm can survive in a woman's body is 5-7 days at the most! Women's cycles can vary from month to month and so tracking your ovulation can be really tricky. When you have a 13 day cycle followed by a 42 day cycle (like me) you CAN'T ovulate 14 days after your period! Even women who have regular periods can ovulate and different times each month due to hormone levels and stress.

What he told you about tipping your hips up to help the sperm reach the ovaries is probably the only correct thing he told you but you're supposed to keep that position for 30 minutes to an hour.

Sorry, not all women ovulate at the same time, if we did no one would ever have problems getting pregnant. I actually got pregnant with my last child 2 days before my next period was due, I should have not been ovulating at that time.

All women "should" ovulate around the same time after our period, but we don't.

I am having the same problem right now. I was using ovulating kits until I finally went to talk to my doctor. He told me they are basically a waste of money because all women's ovulation time is pretty much the same. Track your period. He said that 14-17 days after the day you start your period is when you ovulate. But, your body can hold the sperm for up to 2 weeks. So, he told me starting the day I get off my period, I should have sex everyday for 14 days. He also said, although it's odd and sorta embarrasing, lay your butt on a pillow during, and then after your husband is done, have him get up and keep laying like that for at least 10 minutes. This way the sperm can make it up to your ovaries the easiest. I actually talked to a friend about it when I talked to my doctor because we have the same one. She said she had tried for over a year to have a baby, he told her to do all of this, she did, and was pregnant after 3 months of doing this. She also said she knew 2 other people this worked on. GOODLUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did use one of the ovulation tests I believe it was the first response it told me when I was ovulating I never did get pregnant when I was trying to use those. When I just gave up believed it was not going to happen bamb I was pregnant. The more you stress over it the harder it may seem. My dr at one point said try for 6 mths if nothing happens then come to me, so aroiund 6mths of trying id talk to your dr. I honestly believe that everything happens when the time is right. I hope that you get your wish soon.

I bought 100 LH/ovulating test strips with 30 free pregnancy tests off of amazon. That way I could test twice a day & not break the bank. You are trying to catch a little 6 hour window that your hormones peak. These are super simple test that are used at your doctors office too. Your test line has to be equal to or darker than your control line, & hell 100 for $30 trust me you'll figure it out. They worked for me & I used them for all 3 of my babies. I would test once between about 10am & 12pm, and then again around 6pm to 9pm most often catching it later in the day.



Also any lube you use can kill sperm unless you use a sperm friendly product like preeseed.



I found a website called www.askdramy.com that you can print out your most fertile days, and when a pregnancy test should be most accurate. That helped narrow things down for me too.

@ alison: The box said to use it on day 9 of your cycle. *9 days from the day you start* I want to go see a dr but my husband doesnt believe we should. He says our timing is just off and we do not need to see a dr. I told him If we dont see something by the end of the year when our ded starts over i will go in and see. I know my insurance will not cover anything to do with fertility. so that is holding me from going and seeing a specialist.

@ Dora. i have actaully done that. I like to "wine" done the week with some wine. ha ha.

Don't laugh but I recommend a couple of glasses of wine. I know quite a few woman who have done this after trying. It seems as if a woman tries so hard she actually stresses out and throws her body out of wack. If you like wine and don't mind having a couple of glasses it may actually relax you enough to get things started. I hope you get pregnant soon.

On a more serious note start taking pre-natal vitamins now. That is what my doctor recommended for me because I had such a bad case of endometriosis that required surgery. After the surgery he put me right on the pre-natal vitamins. It worked for me. I now have an amazing 2 1/2yrd old son.

When we were trying for our first child, we were having some difficulty and my doctor said after a year with no luck we should come back in and discuss testing, options, etc. Fortunately after 9 months, I finally got pregnant. My doctor told me to buy an ovulation kit, but I actually ended up pregnant before I used it so I don't really know how they work. Are you sure your timing is right on using it? If it's really been since March 2009, I would see your doctor about it.

Hey I'm kinda at the same place, not as long as you, but try to Basil Body Temp. method there's tons of stuff online for that! also you can check you cirvical position and fluid...stuff about that too! I won't get into on here! LOL but good luck hope something works and we both get pregnant THIS MONTH!!!!!!

When in your cycle did you start using the sticks? Maybe you missed it.

Secondary infertility is more common than you think. My husband and I got pregnant within a few months of going off the pill when trying to conceive our first child. After a year of trying with no luck for our second baby I finally went to the doctor. He put me on clomid and a month later I was pregnant. 19 weeks along so far! :)

There's no need for you to deal with more stress and anxiety.....as tough as it is...you should probably chat with your doctor like Kate suggested. Stay strong my dear!!! :-)

@Kara: I totally agree with you. With every month that goes by i just want to break down and cry. for the first several months we werent "trying" but going with the flow and not stressing about hoping it would happen. You know the whole it was ment to be type thing. . . But my husband and i got pregnat 7 months after knowing each other. and it seems like we should have gotten pregnant by now. so it is very discouraging! But i do wish you the best of luck and hope we both become pregnant as well! REALLY SOON!! hee hee

Your message/question has come at a perfect time because I'm exactly where you are. My son is 16 months and my hubby and I have been trying since June with no luck. I have done the ovulating tests (saveontests.com) is really great for CHEAP tests that are accurate, etc. Anyways, I followed the steps and determined when I was ovulating, but no luck. I'm trying to go with no stress, go with the flow, etc etc, but seriously, I want to be pregnant and as each month passes, it becomes annoying and frustrating. Just keep pouncing on your hubby and I bet it will happen when you're not expecting it. Best wishes my dear. I hope we BOTH get pregnant SOON!!!!
