I have a 12 year old boy who tends to burst into tears over random little things. I have never been a preadolescent boy and am wondering if this is normal for them.

Oh Lord completely normal my oldest one did this over the simplest things when he hit almost 12.

Thanks girls....I have one who has the raging hormones and doesn't do this, and the other one is yet to REALLY have puberty hit. So I learned something new. Thank you!!!

Yup. Hormones rage. Good on ya. You have done something right if he feels he can cry at age 12. Some boys by this age are so shut down and shut off from their feelings they cry at nothing - then turn into the men we complain about all the time.
Of course not all boys are emotional by nature, just like girls. But I have seen many boys this age cry rivers over the smallest of things

I've never seen that with my boys.....they are 11 and 13. The older one DOES tend to get a bit of attitude at times, but not bursting into tears over little things. But that's just my experience.
Are you aware of anything going on at school?
