It's time for Mommy to actively start loosing weight, I want to start taking my 6 month old to the park and walking around the park for a mile or 2, 3-4 times a week... My travel system stroller is just so bulky, I was wondering what strollers you guys would suggest for the light exercise I want to do... I am not a jogger and don't have the money for a fancy jogging stroller... Will an umbrella stroller do the job? He can sit unsupported and he's got wonderful head control... Thanks guys!

I have an umbrella stroller (not the cheap ones this one cost me 40) and it works good for walking. I do have to say though if you are tall then it might not work for you. I'm
5 11 and the stroller isn't really high enough for me so I have to adjust how I walk. So if you are average height or if you're tall and can find a umbrella stroller that fits your height I think it would work great!

I purchased a Combi lightweight stroller with a cupholder and snack tray for my daughter. It folds up just like an umbrella stroller, very lightweight, and it has a shoulder strap to carry it. I love it and so does my daughter. It even reclines. I think it weighs less than 8 pounds. They range between $65-$130. I hated the normal/regular umberella stroller with the "J" shape handles. This one has a larger straight across bar style handle, that I can place my bag over. LOVE IT!!! You can purchase it at www.babycenter.com, www.toysrus.com, www.target.com :)

If you want to go for a serious walk, the bulky one will probably do better. Basically, the more a stroller is worth, the easier it is to maneuver and you really don't need that extra strain. Also, if you are walking at a good pace your feet might hit the umbrella stroller.

an umbrella stroller will work for walking. Get one with a sunshade if you can. Also, try it out in the store and make sure you can reach the handles easily. My husband had trouble pushing ours because he's taller than I am and he had to crouch to reach the handles. Test out the turning ability, too. We've had two and one was really horrible at turning.

One more thing, see if you can get one with rubber wheels instead of plastic. The rubber wheels are more durable and can be used on off road trails, too.

the only reason i can think of not to use one is if you are tall the umbrella strollers can make walking difficult. we have started walking regularly with our dogs and have found that we need to buy a 3 wheeler to do this as the handle on ours is too low to use when walking as the handle on the one we are looking at is 3 inches higher.

otherwise we also use our front/back pack for bub who is 9 months old and nearly 10kg and it's great when walking. she loves it too cos she's so close to us

if the umbrella stroller is comfortable for you to use then it's fine! i have one but i find it too low and if i use it too long it hurts my back - but it's great for just a short jaunt here or there.

I've used umbrella strollers for both my girls, and they are awesome. I loved them for walking and since they are lightweight and easy to fold, they can go anywhere. I have a brand new one in my eBay store for sale, cheap, if anyone is interested.

That's what I use. Your little guy will love it, I know mine did. He loves being outside and before it snowed I would go for a walk with him right before his naptime and it really relaxed him.

I think an umbrella stroller would be perfect. Once my daughters were old enough to sit up, I rarely used the big, bulky travel stroller again. It was umbrella all the way! I love 'em - they're lightweight, cheap and don't require an engineering degree to open and close!

I have never used an umbrella stroller simply because I have twins but I know people do love them. I would think it would work out well as long as he is able to sit up.

I'm not sure that an umbrella stroller would be good enough for jogging but definately for a walk in the park would be great...that way the little guy could look around and see the "sights" too!!! good luck!!!
