if you contact your local community centre they should be able to assess for development problems

my daughter was soo clumsy and she also had low muscle tone and they allowed her into an early intervention unit to see an occupational therapist to organise activities which would help correct it

these programs and this type of assistance is always better to get sooner rather than later it never hurts to mention it to the health nurse and ask questions.

He had tubes in his ears for 2 yrs and in Feb he had them removed along with his tonsils and adenoids. I just wasn't sure if this was normal or not. He will just be walking normally and trip over nothing. He does this about 5 times a day.

my nephew was very unsteady, it turned out he had glue ear and grommits sorted him out instantly. does he have any hearing issues?

I dont want to hype things up here - - just ask about to rule it out -- vertigo - i know it affects balance, causes dizziness, hearing problems etc. Maybe jjust watch his eyes, and how he is acting when this occurs - keep tabs on it, that way when you take him to the doctor you can let him know if you notice anything else going on while hes tripping/falling. Again, Im not suggesting this to give you nightmares or heartache - just an option to rule out.

it could possibly be inner ear related, because that has a large part in balance. You might want to get him checked.

Heheh - yeah my 3yo neice can trip on thin air too! Apparently it happens because the nerves develop quicker than the brain so they get clumsy until all the thought-response patterns align. It also why young ones need to keep repaeating the samethings over and over to develop their coordination. Just keep some arnica cream on hand to keep the bumps and bruises down until they get past the clumsy stage.

My son is a little over 3 and there are days he trips and falls all the time...But then again he does take after me with the clumsiness

my oldest is 2.5 and he seriously does not pay attention to where he puts himself. he is constantly smacking his head on the counter or into doors and walls. its sad but hilarious. i think they get to a point where if it's out of their eye sight, they're not careful about it. i believe that includes feet. my son will be walking and trip over his feet and bust his head off the floor.
if you're really concerned about it, take him to the dr to make sure his legs are straight and he's not pigeon toed. or you can just get him a pair of stride-rite shoes, which help correct leg and feet problems.

They do get to a clumsy phase, where they trip and fall easily. At this age they tend to explore there surroundings more and the chances of hurting themselfs increases. At least this phase will pass. If it worries you, it is always a good idea to have him checked out by a paediatrician
