I have a six month old with blue eyes...just wondering if he's old enough that they'll likely stay this color, or did anyone's baby's eyes change color later than this?

Many parents/clients ask me this question, lol... my answer is AT LEAST four years old. =) Personally, I know MY eyes change over the seasons a bit still as an adult... greener in the summer & more greyish in winter. =P

My husband and I both have blue eyes. Our daughter had the biggest bluest eyes until she was 3. Now they can best be described as hazel. The most closely related person to her without blue eyes was my grandmother who she resembles (she had brown with blue rings around them).

People say eyes can change color anytime in life, and that may be true in that blue eyes could look more gray or even blue green later on, but it is impossible for blue eyes at even 6 months old to turn brown or hazel. Just doesn't happen. So your boy will have some shade of blue eyes from now on!!

This is not true !!  My daughter had bright blue eyes until she was 13 months when they turned brown just like her fathers' !

Form what I have read on average it changes between 6 month and a year... However, eye color can change throughout your whole life so It might take a few years before his eyes change to another color or they might just change to another shade of blue. It really depends on the baby.

It is absolutely not impossible for blue eyes to turn brown after 6 months old. My daughter's eyes were blue like mine until she was about 16 months old. Then they turned brown. I couldn't help being a little disappointed at the time - it was really fun to have her look so much like me. But I got over it quickly. She has beautiful eyes now that are brown wih a darker blue ring around the edges. Of my 6 kids, though, she is the only one whose eyes have changed after abouT 6 months old.

my dad was born with brown eyes and straight brown hair. . .around the time he was 18 his eyes turned green and his hair black and curly. . .so i suppose that stuff can change whenever it wants. . my daughter was also born with dark brown eyes . . my obgyn said it is kinda uncommon for caucasian babies to be born with brown eyes. . most of them are born with blue eyes. . .

Your son's eyes look pretty bright blue in the picture, so they will stay some shade of blue. If they were gonna be brown or hazel, they would have turned by now. I have hazel eyes and my husbands are blue. My two daughters have always had blue eyes. But my older son's eyes started out green then around 10 months they turned hazel. My younger son is 10 months old. We knew from birth that he would not have blue eyes (they were very dark, like slate.). They are now green, but I'm waiting to see if they will stay or turn hazel or even brown!

You never know...like I said earlier, my husband's eyes were blue until he was 3 or 4.  I think if at least one of the parents has blue eyes, chances are good that the baby's eyes will stay blue.  But if there's any brown in the mix on either parent, it's kinda a roll of the dice lol

Hmmm...I was under the impression that they wouldn't really change after a year or so, so it's interesting to hear about other babies who's eye color changed later in life. My husband and I both have dark hair and hazel eyes, and my son was born with dark hair and dark bluish grey eyes. Now's he's a little blondie and his eyes haven't changed at all. I never pictured us having a blond haired blue eyed baby, but of course we'll love him to bits no matter what color his eyes are! Thanks for your input!

My little one is 14 months and still has blue eyes despite the fact that my husband and I both have very deep brown eyes. I am holding out a little hope that they will stay because I am a sucker for blue-eyed brunettes, but I have heard of drastic change taking place anytime in life.

I've heard of children's eyes changing colors up and into their teens. For my part most kids in our family had locked in their eye color by the time they were a year old. Oddly enough my daughter somehow got hazel eyes when my eyes are blueish grey and her bio-dad's were blue.....go figure. My son wound up with his fathers piercing blue eyes.....go figure how genetics work.

Hi Krista,
My husband has light brown eyes, almost amber, and his mother says his eyes were blue until he was around 3 or 4. His mother has amber eyes and his father has brown eyes. I have blue eyes and I've noticed that over time they have gotten a darker shade of blue (I'm almost 38 now). My mom had blue eyes and my dad had brown eyes. I think it all has to do with genetics.

Hello, my daughter Lynn had very blue eyes, sometimes bluish grey, until she was about 18 mos. old. Then they turned a light green and have stayed green since. I love the color especially since it is less common to see.

My two sons had blue eyes until they were in their teens then they got lighter and now they have green-blue eyes.  My eyes were blue too and no they are green-blue.  If the blue is dark and cloudy or if there is any gold or brown they may turn brown or hazel.
