i had a vbac after a c-section. dr just monitored me during pregnancy and then said at the first sign of trouble in labour i would have to have a c-section. we had a slight prob at the end (his head didnt want to come through!!) so we had the vaccuum, but still highly recommend it!! my aunty had 2 c-sections and had a vbac as her 3rd. i think rupture of scar is only a small chance, and if the dr and midwife know your history then they can monitor you closely. as long as it is safe go for it!

Quoting Shelly:

Your dr telling you that you can only have 4 c-sections is total BS. Doctors are being bullied into stopping c-sections because they cost the hospital more money. They do allow women to do vbacks after c-sections all the time, but it is questionable about how safe it really is. This is your body & the doctor has no right to try to bully or pressure you into a vag birth, & they will try to. I just had my 2nd c-section & thank god I did because the baby popped out at 10lbs, but the 1st dr I saw TOLD ME I was going to do a v-back so I just got another doctor.

What they dont tell you about v-backs is that at any point and time during a vag birth after a c-section your uterus can rupture, they can not tell you if or when this is going to happen during the babys birth, this could lead to the death of your infant & they would have to rush you to surgery where you could die, they might be able to repair your uterus, or if they can't stop the bleeding they would have to remove you uterus leaving you unable to have more children. Im not trying to be dramatic or scare you, this is what they won't tell you, or they pish pish it away telling you there is a less than 1% chance. It is your body.

The other post is right about the scar tissue, but they normally cut that out after ever c-section making a new fresh incision. If it is you and not the doctor who wants the v-back then okay, but if it is the dr being pushy (plus they lied to you) then just do what you want. They can not make you do a vag birth after a c-section.

Depending on the pregnancy and the woman's health (case by case) a vbac can be safe for mother and baby. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), if you had a previous cesarean with a low transverse incision, the risk of uterine rupture in a vaginal delivery is .2 to 1.5%, which is approximately 1 in 500  (http://www.cytoteccase.com/

It's all about being informed and having a doctor or midwife who will work WITH you not against you. Good luck and don't be scared. Do what you and your doctor/midwife think is best for you and baby.

I had a c section and the hospital I use will not allow a VBAC unless you had a normal birth before the csection. my doctor also said at most 4-5 c sections. The problem is that the more times they open you up the more scar tissue is that they have to cut though. Scar tissue is a problem.
