My daughter Shelby Marie is turning 5 on October 8th but we are having her party on October 3rd. She is into art. Her favorite characters are Ariel, Max and Ruby, SpongeBob, and I cannot figure out what to do for her party. We want to have it in our big backyard and cookout but we do not even have a swing set or play ground.

I work for a mobile beading party service that comes to Ancaster and Hamilton and we entertain children at birthday parties by making jewelry with them. We would love to help you with your daughter's party. Here is a link to our site www.beadingbuds.com.

We did a Pirates theme for my son's 3rd birthday and all the kids came dressed as pirates. We constructed a giant pirate ship from refridgerator boxes (thanks to a local appliance store) and even hid a treasure. Perhaps for a little girl you could have a princess theme and make a castle- heck I'd do pirates- lil girls can be pirates too! : )

All those characters have tons of accessories and party supplies.

I'm partial to Ariel. Have an Under the Sea party with Ariel. Fish decorations, "seaweed".

Have contests.... who can hold their breath the longest... bob for apples (its close enough to halloween and water oriented!

Grill "Seafood" for the party, Shape burgers like fish? Use a cookie cutter, maybe make hotdogs look like eels? Sweet Baked beans could be called fish eggs, Deviled or plain boiled eggs could be "cooked oysters", lettuce is of course seaweed... so many options...

Have a scavenger hunt for Ariels favorite "treasures" forks, lol remember how she loved the "fork" she found? you could just hide forks and paint them different colors and make one "gold" for a special prize.

I found a tip on a site to put fish shaped confetti on the table, blue & aqua streamers.

I have this visual on how to make them "stand up" to make waving strands of seaweed....

You could paint their faces, very sparkly stuff, in Ariels colors.....

Pin the fin on the fish.... or pin the "food" into the fishe's mouth? A pinata?

Thank you! great ideas. I also like the moon bounce idea that would be great for them to have in the backyard.

For my daughters 4th birthday we had a dress up party. We dumped out a box of old dresses that grandma had with scarfs, hats and costume jewelry and let all the girls dress up. We also had a friends teenage daughter dress up as Cinderella and come spend the afternoon with girls. They still remember that party.

Well if you are up to it, you can have a cupcake decorating party, the little girls love them, what we do is make a ton of cup cakes, buy the frosting (vanilla or such) coloring and sprinkles, some spoons and feezer bags to use to put in the frosting ( make a tiny hole in one corner and they can use to decorate their own cup cake you don't even have to get a cake cuz that's the cake they'll eat at the party, it's fun and you get great pictures from the activity. good luck.

Im with the majority here...definitely princess! When my daughter turned five, she wanted to be Belle from Beauty and the Beast. So, she got the costume for one of her gifts, the cake was all Princess themed. It all turned out great. Depending on your budget, you can definitely go out and get party favors as well. We opted not to and she still loved being the "Princess" for the day!

I went to a princess party where all the little girls were dressed up and that was fun. They had a princess fashion show. The mom had a huge pile of clothes for them to try on and some girls wore princess costumes. I'm renting a moon bounce for my son's birthday (also in October). They can get some energy out by jumping. I also try and organize some games that the kids can all play together. You could get a pinata or pin the tail on the donkey game. You could also plan an art activity. It's October so perhaps they could paint mini pumpkins to take home. You could give little prizes for the silliest pumpkin face, happiest, scariest, etc...

My daughter loved Dora, so for her 5th we did a Dora party. We set out an obstiacle course, gave the kids a "Map" & told them a story as to what they have to do & where they have to go. My husband dressed up as swipper the fox (he just wore an orange t-shirt & we made a mask & a fox nose out of paper & card-board). We made a pinyta out of paper mashe, it looked exactly like Dora's head. We had prizes at the end of the obstiacle course, which invovled climbing over things, crawling under things, finding hidden things & a pin the tale on the "Boots". My suggesting is not doing a Dora party, but using your resources & doing a party themed on your daughters favorite character. Our only took 2 days to plan & that was only because we had to make the pinyta. I hope this helps.

Your very welcome :) ..like Ruby, in the cartoon "Max and Ruby", loves to play dress up and like in one episode, she loved dressing up as a princess and always pretends to be one!! I'm pretty sure any young lady would love to dress up as a princess for a day, what better day then her own birthday!! It's a very special day :) I wish Shelby Marie a very happy birthday for the 8th and I hope all her birthday wishes come true!!
