I am 38 weeks pregnant and 2cm dilated and 50% thinned. What are some natural ways to induce labor that has worked for you? What is a good spicy food dish to eat?

after reading some of these posts I can't help but comment. We all need to keep in mind before commenting what the person has asked advice for. Stephanie did not ask whether we think she should or shouldn't induce labor. She asked for advice on ways to induce labor. It is not our position to tell her our opinion on how we feel about naturally inducing labor. We don't know whether her doctor has given her the ok to do what she can to get it going more. Her body has already naturally started the process. We need to be considerate and careful of what we say so not to come across in a way that we make another feel like they don't know what they're doing, are wrong or make them feel insulted (etc) in anyway. We are supposed to be supporting each other and helping give advice-not tell or demand or expect our way is the only way and right way! Good luck Stephanie! Hope you have found something that has worked for you! :)

nipple stimulation causes the same hormones to be released that they use in inductions, the same hormonal reaction caused by orgasm, and would be no different than nursing a child while pregnant, which again , same hormonal release of oxytocin.

the only difference with sex is the added benefit of the sperm helping to soften and ripen the cervix.

yes the contractions can be strong, but your body wont go into labour unless the baby is ready to come. same with sex, walking, spicy foods, castor oil, and any other method to induce naturally.

the contractions i got after an orgasm were far worse than those that would come with nipple stimulation. unfortunately nothing i did brought on labour, but it did help me dilate to 7cm without ever being in labour !

its also alot less physically exhausting than most other method. imagine walking for hours, tiring yourself and then going into labour ? or dehydrating yourself thanks to the diarrhea cause by the castor oil which irritates your bowels and *may* cause contractions only because your bowels are spasms next to your uterus. so you shit all day then go into labour ? eep no thanks ;)

edited to fix the oil, castor not cod liver LOL i was tired it would seems !

i was 2 cms dilated at 38 weeks but my son (my 2nd child) still went till day before his due date. There really is no way to help, baby will come when he/she is ready. My son was born in 2 hours though of contractions starting.(he was ready lol) Ive had 7 children so i know how different babies are ,and how they come when you least expect it.
Relax natural is easier, better and most of the time its less complicated.
Rest why you can although its easier said than done but he/she will be here soon.
good luck

No,women are considered full term at 37 weeks. Women who *need* to be induced before 37 weeks or women who go into labor before 37 weeks need to have the shot that helps their babies lungs develop. (Even if the woman is 36 weeks pregnant.) I was more then happy to have my son "cooking" until 40 weeks, because I felt fine, my son was fine and I wanted what was best. He came at 39 weeks 4 days. I hope my next one goes to 40 weeks.

Don't try to induce. Your baby will come when it is time. 40 weeks is the ideal time to go into labor, because you never really know how far you are. What if the doctors think you are 38 weeks but are really 36 weeks? You can never really be sure.

Yes that's the right red rasberry tea leaves. My midwife instructed me to drink several cups a day. I did this for about a week. It helps strength the uterine wall and prepares for labor contractions. I was drinking this tea when I started having contractions. My due date was the 7th and I had her on the 2nd. Another thing that I hated, but my midwife had me do was to insert 3 softgel capsules all pricked with a needle of evening primrose oil to help soften the cervix.

Ok- people hate this one, but my magic combination was castor oil and sex. The problem is, you have to have a strong stomach to down it (think of drinking cooking oil). But, if all other attempts fail, I can promise you it'll do the job in about 4 hours. Good luck!

What worked for me was walking, My first I was 1 cm dilated for three weeks, I walked 1 mile and the next day active labor began and the baby came 7 days earlier. The second walking also helped and the baby came 9 days earlier. if you can try walking, but make sure you have a partner/cell phone on you.

Don't do anything, I tried everything including cod liver oil and ended up having a shock birth which means the baby comes very quickly. My son suffered problems because the birth was so fast (approx 5mins) and hafd to have his heart started with adrenalin and has been left with learning difficulties which is a lot harder to deal with than letting nature take its course and give birth naturally.

nipple stimulation, herbs, walking, sex.

(Just read about your concerns with the nipple stimulation) Contractions are painful...that's just the way they are. You might not wanna do it while your in active labor. That could make the contractions more painful. Otherwise, go for it!!

for one of my daughters I sat in front of the tv and stimulated my nipples which I thought was an old wives tale but it worked so well, within an hour i started having contractions, I was 2 days over due.

Just for the record, for the person posting about it, 38+ weeks is considered full term....

I don't know if there IS any way to really do that. A year and a half ago I was in your shoes, and I googled and searched the whole internet. But, don't get me wrong, I definately tried everything!! But nothing worked for me, but maybe you will be different. Google natural ways to induce labor, and there's tons of info on it, good luck!! :)

Both my children were born just like they were conceived....right after making love to their daddy. Don't force it. You may feel big and awkward, but it is like a big internal massage having an orgasm when you are heavy with child, If the baby isn't hurried along...there is no harm no foul. Mom and Dad just had a good time...enjoy it, Baby is coming soon....6 weeks or so of abstinence coming your way, so really, it can't hurt to try.

when i was 38 weeks pregnant with my little girl i was overly large with too much water gain....i took 4mg of castor oil....ok, first of all, if you do this, BE PREPARED TO BE IN THE BATHROOM FOR AT LEAST 12 HOURS!....after that, my water broke one day later and after a pretty easy going c-section i had a beautiful healthy baby girl...the castor oil didn't hurt my baby and just reallly really gave me a bad moment in the ladies room as i described!...lol...other than that, and it does taste TERRIBLE!....it seemed to work for me!

Sex and nipple stimulation. I was two weeks overdue and couldn't get in for a inducment. My OB Nurse told me to have sex and make sure to not ignore the breasts, it worked! Just know, the first time may not work so you may have to have sex more than once but it will work!

While pregnant with my 3rd son in april, I took an echinacea as a pill supplement at 11pm on a Saturday night, and contractions began within an hour. My son was born, the next day healthy, a week before his due date. You're not suppose to take this early in pregnancy, because it can stimulate your uterus. But since I was full term (and getting sick Again) it was safe for me, and it was going to be helpful in at least one way. If you take this, I hope it works for you.

Waiting until you go into labor is a good natural way! Don't rush it, your body is getting ready on its own. I'm assumming you have already had your baby so congrats!

castor oil... Tastes super nasty but def works... tastes a little better if mixed with chocolate ice cream.. It's a natural laxative, so what it does is gets your bowels rubbing up against your uterus causing contractions.. At least you know that you will be cleaned out during delivery. It worked with out son... Good luck mama...
Also go for a good hard walk.. That sometimes gets the contractions going.

I walked two miles the night before I went into labor. Just got on the treadmill at the gym and kept an easy pace. I walked it in the 30 minutes it took my hubby to complete his workout. It made the labor easier as well (and I had a natural child birth).
