I think that my 15 month old might be allergic to milk but I am not sure? She has had nasty poops for a month now. they are so gross and stinky. I took her to the doc. the 4th day she had them but they just said it might just be a viral thing and just let it run its course. She still has nasty poops. They are green most of the time and slimy. I know I know that is gross but I really wanted to know if someone else's little one has had this problem and what it was. Thanks for the help.

My son is lactose intollerant, if he has milk over a period of a few days he gets a sore tummy and yes, his poop gets very gross. We've had him on lactose free milk for 5 years and it's the best thing. The doctor said to us that it's a simple and painless test to see if he's lactose intollerant, stop giving him normal milk and start giving him the lactose free kind. If this is the cause, all the nasty symptoms will disappear.
I guess this is something you could start trying now until you can get to a doctor to see if there's anything more serious wrong with your child.

My daughter is intolerant and she gets horrible gas and poops. I know when she's gotten dairy because she's up all night arching her back passing horrible smelling gas and screaming bloody murder.

Sounds like it's still a viral issue, although since it's been this long it's time for a recheck.

An allergy will typically present itself in the form of a rash, which was my daughter's case. My daughter (22 months) had a sensitivity to the protein in cow's milk which is very common for children under 2.....they also typically outgrow it! Does she have any other symptoms? From what you've described about her poop I wouldn't guess it's a milk allergy.

Here's something I found from a website....

" Symptoms of milk allergy can affect the skin, causing rashes or hives; the digestive tract, causing bloating and diarrhea, and the respiratory system, causing runny nose and asthma. Click here to learn more about allergy symptoms."

A more complete list of symptoms follows:

● vomiting

● hyperactive behavior

● diarrhea

● asthma

● hives

● runny nose

● rashes

● stuffy nose

● ear infections

● bloating

● watery eyes

● eczema

● allergic shiners (black around the eyes

● recurrent bronchitis

● failure to thrive
