What are your favorite educational TV shows for kids who have outgrown Noggin and Nick Jr?

My older kids are 4 (girl) and 6 (boy) years old. We don't have cable so we are stuck with PBS. My kids Really enjoy Word Girl, Sid the Science Kid, Martha Speaks, Cyber Chase, Fetch with Ruff Ruffman. I'm all about educational TV and my kids have GREAT vocabularies too. LOL Just log on to PBSKids.org and check the listings.

As for DVDs, my favorite by far are the Leapfrog Letter Factory, Talking Words Factory, and Talking Words Factory 2. We still play those almost every day to reinforce reading skills. My 5 year old gifted child has almost outgrown them, but my 3 year old is the perfect age.

We do a lot of discovery channel at my house. My kids love Mythbusters, How it's made and Dirty Jobs. My kiddos are 7 and 5.

I have satellite and there is a baby channel called Baby Fist TV. For babies 3 months and up to 7 or 8 years old. My 10 month old loves it but he definitely has outgrown some of those cartoons in the channel. Remember also that doctors recommend a maximum of 2 hrs of TV a day and that includes video games.

my lil girl is only 3 and 3 months, but after watching the music group hi-5 learnt how to count to ten, backwards from ten she also knows the alphabete and its great for her memory skills and imagination, i know kids who still enjoy the program up to the age of 6 or 7 years, hopefully that helps xo

Ugh, I struggle with this same thing. My five-year-old has outgrown Dora, etc. also and I have had to channel block Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network because some of those cartoons are way too inappropriate for his age! (I caught one of the characters in the cartoons saying, "Hey, are you looking at my boobs?", etc.) Anyhow, we mainly stick to DVDs because I haven't found many options. He likes Yo Gabba Gabba (even at five), Sid the Science Kid, and Reading Rainbow. I just TiVo everything because the good shows are on during school hours.

PBS has a lot of great shows, Sid the Science kid, Mister Rogers, Word World, etc. Maybe set your DVR for all the daytime childrens shows, and then watch them with your kids to see which ones they like. It's usually a pretty safe bet that PBS shows are educational as well.

I like little Einsteins, but it is borderline too young for them. I cannot find "All for Kids" in my TV search. I am in Texas. Perhaps it is a local show?

Hi Kerry, Im not sure how old your kids are but there is a show on 7 every morning called 'All For Kids'.... it has cooking, science experiments, crafty activities, gardening etc.... it's pretty good!
