be careful, when your body is pushed by any means into going into labor before it is ready, you generally have a harder longer more difficult labor than if your body does it on its own timing.

If you and the father are still together i strongly recommend having sex to go into labor, i had sex the night before i was due and my son was born the next afternoon on his due date!! I swear by it.

Raspbery tea leaf is what you can do to go into labor...I drank it and went into labor 6 hours later

Both of my babies were over a week overdue...I wanted those babies out! I was running out of time, because doctors and midwives won't allow you to go past a certain number of days past your due date. Apparently things start to go wrong quickly for the baby at a certain point.

Your body generally knows when it's time, and any intervention comes with a bit of risk. I'd stick with sex, spicy food, walking and anything else you'd naturally do...I'd steer clear of herbs, etc. that are intended to start labor and anything that your doctor would prescribe or do UNLESS they're concerned for the health and safety of the baby.

My boys were healthy and happy despite coming late. I should also state that I'm personally opposed to a C section unless it's absolutely needed for the health and safety of the baby because once you're undergoing a procedure that serious, you're at a greater risk for infections and other problems. You also can't have more than four of them, I've heard.

Good luck Sweetie. That baby will come, I promise. Enjoy these precious days with your family as it is, because a new baby changes everything and they're so much easier to take care of when they eat what you eat, when you eat...when they're not taking up one or both of your arms...and when you can't hear them cry.

I agree. I did drink the castor oil and as I stated before, it made me sick afterwards (not during) and I delivered in 4  hours with majorly INTENSE contractions!  It makes you go SO FAST that I almost didnt get my epidural or feel like I was going to make it to the hospital on time!!!

Quoting Shannon:

Whatever you do, do NOT drink castor oil! It causes strong, painful contractions that often do not dilate you. Plus you will feel sick, and sometimes you can have diarrhea during labor. There is nothing that will for sure cause you to go into labor, but you can try walking, having sex, quite meditation, and all of the above. Best of luck. Hope the lil' tike makes an appearance soon!

like others before me have said, walking is one of the great ways to induce labor. I beleive that is what helped me along on the night my daughter was born. I walked from the parking lot of the hospital into the emergency and I think that is what helped us.

if u are not in labor already walking will do nothing but tire u out. When u are in labor, walking most definitely helps. It maybe ur fourth pregnancy and u maybe ready but ur body is not. I see now that u posted this 2 weeks ago and u maybe ready now. Different pregnancies result in different times u will go into labor. If ur concerned about size of the baby or whatever, talk with your OB Dr. Patience is a virtue...

ask your dr to "strip the membranes" by just running her finger around the part of the sac she can reach...it'll stimulate contractions and is one of the ways to induce labor...it worked for me!

Oscar was 6 Days over due. I was living on the first floor and climb the stairs many times per day, did reflexologie. took some herbal tea to get contractions... Nothing worked. I guess, it only depend on your baby, but believe me, it really worth it! the delivery is magical. You need to work on your mod, do what make you feel happy, you need to stay relaxed. Good luck and keep us posted :)

Sex: the extra prostaglandin will help ripen your cervix for labor. Also, evening primrose oil. Castor oil if you're desperate. But careful about bringing that baby before he/she's ready! And good luck!!

I will tell you now... these ways to induce labor will only work if your baby is ready to come. I know as with my second daughter (aged 2) one dose of castor oil, orange juice and vodka concoction I was in labour within 15 mins and then when I tried the same with my 3rd girl (6 weeks) it did not work at all... I then tried everything from Spicy food, Pinapple, Sex, Pregnancy massage, Pressure points, Walking on a curb, and then I went to a naturopath and was given birth mix.. which helped but I used a concoction called Leonurus which I used and then went into labour. But like I said all natural ways will only work if your bundle wants to come out. So keep positive and happy as stress can stop labour. x Good luck

the only thing that I did that is NOT already mentioned... is a long bumpy ride in a 'dune buggy'. I guess the equivalent now would be to go '4-wheeling'. Sometimes, if you are already getting lots of regular exercise, it's not going to help to get just a little more... My feet were so swollen during the last month with my last baby that walking of any kind was a challenge!

Congratulations! and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I don't recommend the castor oil, btw, unless you are seriously constipated.

I truly believe in having sex to help you go into labor. I don't think it works unless you are close to time anyway. It worked for me though. The next day I started losng my plug and within 36 hours started contractions and my water broke. Good luck.

If you really want to have this baby soon... ask you doctor about inducing labor. Thats what I did, and it was quick. And I was able to call everyone and tell them to come to the hospital. Good Luck!

I was taking raspberry leaf tea (tastes gross but just persist) and also took tablets. I could feel my uteris contracting (not massively contracting but a little). I also walked alot. On the day i went into labour i thought i was having braxton hicks (they weren't overly regulary and not too frequent) so i went grocery shopping and had a wonder around a shopping centre and low and behold that night went into labour. Not sure if it helped but doesn't hurt to try these things as ways to induce labor. Also swimming and i've heard foot massages can bring on labour. I had a full body massage at 36 weeks and they wouldn't massage my feet that late in my pregnancy. So that could be good to try and if it doesn't work it sure does make you feel better. Good luck with it all it will happen when it happens

I know this doesn't sound the prettiest. However when you have sex let your man release sperm into you. The sperm has a component that causes contractions. Also you having an orgasm causes contractions as well. With two of my kids I did this and it worked. But you have to be close to your due date or over.

Unfortunately all the stuff they tell you doesn't do anything. The baby won't come out if it's not ready. If it is ready and you do any of the things that ppl will say then you think that did it. I tried everything...I was a week over. Walking, sex, spicy foods, castrol oil, hot showers, nada. Someone told me have a good cry, which is easy when ur preggers, so I did and went into labour that night. But I don't think it would've made a difference. The one and only thing that will bring on labour is the drugs they give you at the hospital. Which I was due to get the day after I have my little guy.

Have patience ... the baby's going to come when he or she is ready. However, pre-natal massages, reflexology, walking, and chocolate all helped my mental and emotional state during the last 7 days of pregnancy.

[deleted account]

This is what I did...I don't know which one worked. Drank Raspberry Leaf Tea, Walked 4 miles, Jumped on a Trampoline, Had some 'alone' time with my hubby, and Drank Cator Oil. I went into labor that night...7 days past due date.

Contrary to popular belief, sex does NOT work to put you into labor. I had it just about everyday with all 3 pregnancies and it didn't make me go into labor. It will help you have a short and sweet labor and delivery though. I never pushed once with any of my 3. They kinda slid out on their own. But a sure fire way to go into labor is to have your membranes stripped. I went into labor within 30 minutes on my dr. doing it.

I don't care what anyone says, there is nothing you can do to make your body go into labor. I tried all those things too when I had my son and none of it worked. I still had to be induced. When your body is ready it will happen and not any earlier unless your doctor induces you. I know you probably don't want to hear that because I didn't either. LOL. But it is the truth. GOOD LUCK to you.

A week before I had my daughter I was told I was going to have to have a scheduled c-section because my daughter wasn't dropping and I wasn't dilating. I had completely given up on going into labor. Two days before the scheduled c-section, my boyfriend's mom came into town so that she could be here for the birth (she lives 2000 miles away). She took us to the grocery store and we spent a little over an hour shopping for groceries. That night, I went into labor and had my daughter on her due date. Needless to say, I think walking is a great way!

(In the event that you haven't already gone into labor) When a friend of mine was due ( maybe overdue) she wanted so badly to go into labor and not be induced. So we invited her to go bowling with us. We bowled about 2 games and then went home. It worked for her. She went into labor and had a beautiful baby girl sometime the next morning.

There are six children in my family and when I was preg. with my first child my Dad believe it or not said to have my husband take me for a drive over a very bumpy road and it worked. Also I walked a lot, the castor oil is not a good thing because it can cause the baby to have a BM and that is not good at all.
