Jade and Hanna had some good suggestions. Acupressure/massage is good since there are points to avoid for preterm labor...massage those points. Squatting is excellent. But if this is your 4th pregnancy, you should be delivering earlier rather than later. The baby may be asynclitic- that is, the head tilt or the position/lie of your baby in utero may be askew.or even posterior (facing outward instead of slightly toward one hip or the other)... Someone suggested rocking (hands and knees) and some may suggest gently lying on your belly on the side of your baby's butt or back side. Then there's always the sex and increased activity/exercise. Your doctor can also "strip your membranes" with a vigorous vaginal exam...that almost always works within a few days.

There are a bunch of old wives tales...but walking does work. I was told the mop the floor on my hands and knees but I don't think that had too much impact on anything!

look up accupressure - there are pressure points in your body that can bring on labour. my friend reccommended it to me because she has alot of pregnant women come to her work to get it done because they swear by it. i was going to try it this time because i was overdue and had to get induced with my first but im booked in for a caeser on monday because this baby is breech! good luck!

i tired it all.... sex, walking, mazanilla tea, going on bumpy car rides, sitting on a birthing ball... EVERYTHING! you name it I tried it..... nothing... people swear by some methods, but in all actuality your baby will come when he/she is ready!!! dont rush him/her. They know when the right time is and it will happen when they are good and ready to meet the world. :)
oh and i stopped doing everything on a friday and she decided to make her debut on a tuesday. :)

Whatever you do, do NOT drink castor oil! It causes strong, painful contractions that often do not dilate you. Plus you will feel sick, and sometimes you can have diarrhea during labor. There is nothing that will for sure cause you to go into labor, but you can try walking, having sex, quite meditation, and all of the above. Best of luck. Hope the lil' tike makes an appearance soon!

get down on your hands and knees and mop a floor, the intense work and the movement will have you in labor in 24 hours. I was due for #5 the same day my niece was due with her 1st. She went into labor before me (six days early). I was so upset that she went into labor first (I thought I deserved to go first :) so I started mopping my kitchen floor on my hands and knees......late that evening I was having contractions.....7 am I made a dash for the hospital (worst ride yet) and around 11:30 am had #5.....five hours after my niece delivered her baby.

I can give you advice of what NOT to do! LOL. I drank an entire bottle of CASTOR OIL on trusted advice. I didnt even bother to research it a bit as i was way too anxious! The baby came in 4 hours (from the time my water broke to the time I held her in my arms!)....BUT, I was very sick afterwards...UGGGGH. Your Dr/midwife can also do a 'sweep'......Good luck to you

OK, just to clarify, semen is alkaline, not acidic, and it's the prostaglandins in it that softens the cervix. DO NOT drink castrol oil - that is for cars, not people. If you want to try it, drink castor oil. When prostaglandin is released, the nerve endings respond to it by picking up and transmitting the pain and injury messages through the nervous system to the brain. They tell the brain everything about the pain, like where it is and how much it hurts. When you take some pain relievers like ibuprofen, it keeps injured or damaged cells from making and releasing prostaglandin. When the cells don't release this chemical, it means that the brain won't get the pain message as quickly or clearly. So your pain goes away or becomes less severe for as long as the cells aren't releasing the chemical.

I am a midwife and I can tell you there are many methods. The most obvious methods are sex and walking. They seem to be the most popular among most of the mothers I've helped. But I think the best thing you can do is let it take its course. If you are overdue then you might be induced depending on how overdue you are.
Good luck!
Amanda :)

that is ironic all of you wonderful moms suggest that I walk!! and that is what i have been doing, this number 4 pregnancy for me and I am just ready to GO!!! have tried everything!!
I know how you feel. I was like that on #4. I was so ready and didn't want anything more to do with pregnancy. I went in there telling them I wanted my Tubes tied. I go pregnate with #4 while on the pill.
Anyways, I think sex. lol. I thought it's the way you got there and hoped it was the way to get out of it. It worked, I was on pelvic rest (no sex) up till the point of 36wks. The day I was 36wks was the day we got busy. lol and that was the same day I had #4. lol

I dont know if these really worked or is just an old wives tell, but I dranked castrol oil the night I went into labor. I had it around 4:00pm and by 9:30 I was in full labor. So I dont know if it was from the oil or I was just ready. good luck!

Sorry...my mind went straight to the gutter...LMAO! I know it was not your intention, but I got a great laugh :D...
I did the eggplant parmesiana thing (saw an article in an Atlanta Newspaper...the resturant guranteed labor withing 48hrs of eating it) I had a few contractions, but then my water broke the very next day :D...Good luck!

Nothing works better the Pitocin. Of course, this is only if there is a medical reason for your labor to be induced, but that was the only thing that worked for me! All walking did was dialate me to 2cm for 2 weeks!

I was told to sit on one of those big exercise balls because it helps spread your hips open and bounce a little on it to get things going. They also made me do this in the hospital to help the labor. Walking of course can help too and Sex. Good luck!

REST-your going to need it. I have given natural birth to all seven of my children and have been blessed with 11 grandchildren, one of which was born March 3rd. Have patience, "drink no wine before it's time." Have a blessed day at the coming out of your newborn. You will be having a beautiful and peaceful baby. Be calm and Be happy.

another idea is to have sex...with your partner of course . See the sperm has a acidic value that actually softens the uterus and and orgasm can start the contraction

like others before me have said, walking is one of the great ways to induce labor. I beleive that is what helped me along on the night my daughter was born. I walked from the parking lot of the hospital into the emergency and I think that is what helped us.

ask your dr to "strip the membranes" by just running her finger around the part of the sac she can reach...it'll stimulate contractions and is one of the ways to induce labor...it worked for me!

I will tell you now... these ways to induce labor will only work if your baby is ready to come. I know as with my second daughter (aged 2) one dose of castor oil, orange juice and vodka concoction I was in labour within 15 mins and then when I tried the same with my 3rd girl (6 weeks) it did not work at all... I then tried everything from Spicy food, Pinapple, Sex, Pregnancy massage, Pressure points, Walking on a curb, and then I went to a naturopath and was given birth mix.. which helped but I used a concoction called Leonurus which I used and then went into labour. But like I said all natural ways will only work if your bundle wants to come out. So keep positive and happy as stress can stop labour. x Good luck

I was taking raspberry leaf tea (tastes gross but just persist) and also took tablets. I could feel my uteris contracting (not massively contracting but a little). I also walked alot. On the day i went into labour i thought i was having braxton hicks (they weren't overly regulary and not too frequent) so i went grocery shopping and had a wonder around a shopping centre and low and behold that night went into labour. Not sure if it helped but doesn't hurt to try these things as ways to induce labor. Also swimming and i've heard foot massages can bring on labour. I had a full body massage at 36 weeks and they wouldn't massage my feet that late in my pregnancy. So that could be good to try and if it doesn't work it sure does make you feel better. Good luck with it all it will happen when it happens
