I was told by my pediatrician (female) Eat chocolate and get jiggy with your man! lol it worked! was in labor that next morning. Had a girl in only 5 1/2 hours. She told me that there is something that when you are close (starting to efface and cervic is thinning) the chemical reaction (and the physical) So All I can say after having 2 boys before (which I did the walking the scrubbing floors and cleaning like a mad women) Did not work but her advice did with half the labor :)

I think staying upright helps labour progress, and also i drank raspberry leaf tea from 35 weeks (not before ) and it is meant to help with the second stage of labour (i.e pushing) my second stage last ten mins, I also stayed on my feet nearly all the time (sitting or standing) and then got on my knees for the final pushing stage, i beieve staying upright helped me, i personally don't believe we are meant to be on our backs.

nipple stimulation is supposed to help start contractions.. I used my breastpump and it got contractions going... but they stopped awhile later.
Paschal - posted on 05/16/2009
Exactly what Teri said take daily walks as much as you could it will also help labor to be very short having sex with ur partner also helps it induces labor pain and cantractions causing u to go into labor also, but take it easy and let nature take its course
Sarah - posted on 05/16/2009
Drink 4 oz of caster oil with orange juice, massage your nipples with oils, and you should be in labor in no time flat. Trust me I did this with both of my last pregnancies.....and I was in full blown labor within 4 hours.

its funny reading ur question because 5 weeks ago i was looking for the same answer!!about 4 days before my due date, which was april 15th, i coudnt take it anymore. i was huge and miserable and very eager to meet my baby boy. so i tried everything in the book to make myself go into labor. i was 2 cm dilated at 90% for 2 weeks. what got things moving for me was walking and sex, but when it just wasnt doing the trick itried castor oil. 2 tblspoons mixed with OJ. its not as horrifying as everyone says and it does not cause the baby to have a bowel movement in utero. it didnt work immediately but i took it on a saturday and my son was born monday night at 1030. my water broke while i was sleeping early that morning. not sure if labor had anything to do with the castor oil, but i my body was cleaned out and that helped A LOT during my post pardum recovery. good luck!! but try and be patient, ur baby will come. get some sleep now while u still can!!

Acupuncture/Acupressure, Clary Sage Aromatherapy Oil, Blue/Black Cohosh.
All of these things need to be administered or advice given by a qualified practitioner, such as Acupuncturist, Arometherapist or Herbalist.
Hope this helps.

yeah i did pressure points and my labor came on stroooong..
Catherine - posted on 05/15/2009
there are pressure points in your body that help dialate your cervix, make your contractions start and get stronger and ease pain...i had my son almost 3 weeks ago and i was past my due date and they really helped..my mom would hold down a spot and i would start having contractions 2 min later...squeeze between your thumb and forefinger to increase contractions and help ease pain later, squeeze between your first 2 toes to increase contractions and dialate your cervix more, and rub your low back and over your tail bone to help the baby drop more..there's more...just message me if ur interested! good luck!

I know this sounds crazy but play with your nipples> I actually read this in WhAt to Expect when Your Expecting-AND DID it also after an hour of strokin my nipples -15 min on one then 15 on the other and so on- I started having regular contractions- and my little girl was born about an hour later. When you touch your nipples while your pregnant it releases your bodys own natural pitocin-which is what the dr. puts in your iv to speed up or induce your pregnancy-Good luck --try it -it really works.

I did a lot of walking, but in the end there is a science to "the baby will come when it is ready." There chemical process more or less goes like this: when the baby is fully developed and the lungs are mature, they release a hormone that goes to the placenta. This signals the placenta to get the contractions going. The contractions pull the muscles in a way that make the cervix open which is labor.
Red raspberry leaf tea is know to strengthen and tone the uterine muscle, thereby making labor easier, but it does not stimulate labor.
I got an exercise ball, and would rock on that at night to help myself relax, and drank the red raspberry leaf tea for the two nights before I went into labor with my second son. I also did a lot of hypnobirthing and yoga. The total labor ended up being 3.5 hours long.
As uncomfortable as the later part of pregnancy is, you don't want to rush the baby out before baby is ready, as this can potentially cause complications.

castor oil realy works xx
Nikki - posted on 05/15/2009
Only thing you can do is just wait. When the baby is ready then the baby will come. None of the stuff I tried ever worked and i was one week overdue with my last and I also I had a one year old so I was ready but she just was not. Let the baby come in it's own time.

My doctor told me to walk, have sex and be active (as active as possible at 39 weeks!!) All my children came at 37 weeks though so I never had to try any of these. Good luck!!

I was 4 days late and had a sweep 5 hrs later contractions started, was in labour 12 hrs altogether and was 9lb 2oz

Its a bit hard to say 'the baby will come when it is ready', My mum was induced in the end because I was well OVER ready and her body wasn't responding. She got a major rash because I did a 'poop' inside her... so speak to your doctor. Walking i've heard helps most of the time... other than that, do the exercises they tell you to do.
Stef - posted on 05/14/2009
I ate loads of fresh (not canned) pineapple! I wouldn't recommend trying anything until you are actually due though. The end part is so uncomfortable I know, but hang in there your bubba will come when its ready. All the best!

I would just try to relax. Try not to stress yourself with worrying. I have three children. The first two were a week late, so I had to be induced at the hospital. Both of those labors were awesome and easy. My last child I grew impatient and was induced a week early and it was a hard labor. If there's a fourth, I'm going to stay patient and RELAX. Good luck
Stephanie - posted on 05/14/2009
Ask your doc to start you. I did that with my second. It was wonderful!

I was 3 days overdue and I tried acupressure and about an hour later I started having contractions, Im not sure if thats what did it or it was just time. all the other remedies did not help. Good luck :)

Hot curry ...hot sex ...long walk...castor oil ...raspberry leaf tea......fresh pineapple ....are all suposed to work but in my case didnt your baby will come when good and ready ......good luck
Brooke - posted on 05/14/2009
I tried most things but still had to be induced 9 days after my due date. I'm sorry to tell you this but you will just have to wait, i know it sucks but obviously there is a reason why your baby has not been born yet, it will come in its own time. Try to stick it out cause being induced can be horrible, i know i will wait next time unless my baby or myself is in danger.

I was at the doctor for my 38 week appt, and when she did her exam she said I was not dialated at all. That night my water broke at 4am. I still think it was from her "feeling around" to check things out at my appointment.
Tara - posted on 05/12/2009
I was 9 days overdue, and nothing worked for me, not sex, not walking, not even the induction to start with (it took 5 days before things started really working, and they induced me at the 9th day overdue, so it was 14 days overdue when I had my daughter). I never tried the castor oil or the pressure points because sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, plus a lot of things I've read say that the castor oil can sometimes cause contractions hard enough they can hurt both you and the baby. As for the pressure points, I would make sure you have someone there with you if you try them - my sister is a massage therapist and they are warned against doing the pressure points because they can also cause labour to hit too hard.
It's totally up to you what you try, just know that it'll be over soon enough and then you'll have your little one with you.

Castor oil worked for me. I waited untill I was 2 days over due & had 2 cap fulls. You can buy it at woolies but It tastes like s**t. A few hours later I woke up with diorrea and it just brought on contractions really fast and strong. From the time i woke up till he was born it was 5 1/2 hours... pretty good for first child and 9lbs 10 oz!! Especially after hearing so many horror labour stories. Also without sounding perverted - sex can help, well actually the seman can help to get things started... Good Luck and hang in there!!
Renee - posted on 05/12/2009
I tried Raspberry Leaf Tea, you get it from a health food store. It is surposed to bring on labour sooner. They say to start drinking it from about 36 weeks. I started then but my son was still overdue by a week. It works on some and not others. I've also heard it makes you contractions stronger.
Lauren - posted on 05/12/2009
Things I was told to do and did:
-lots of walking
-eat red grapes
-drink lots of raspberry tea when you feel contractions start and continue to drink as long as they let you!
-for the last week before your due date, insert primrose oil geltabs into your lower region to assist in softening your cervix...
after all of these things... and about 14 hours of mild to mediate contractions... i started pushing at 9 AM and Harley was born at 9:37 AM... he is my first child!

both of my babies were early first one was 5 days and second was 6 days early so ive been lucky but i did go for a huge walk the night before they were both born so i feel that that helped things along also keeping up with a few exercises ones that you can manage to do mite help too. good luck :)

Even if the walking, castor oil, or etc works this time around, don't expect it to be an automatic for any others...I walked the night before my due date with my first and half-way through walking, my contractions started. But then with my second son, NOTHING helped. It's up to your body and your baby. I didn't try the castor oil, like you afraid what it would do. Good luck to you when baby decides to make his/her entrance

I honestly think that you should just wait until your baby is ready. They will come when they are doing growing. I am sorry you are uncomfortable it will all be over soon and you will have this beautiful baby to love forever. I do know that most things will not work if you are not already progressing by yourself. Good luck hun.

Teri is right. Sometimes there's nothing you can do. I tried everything with my second child. and she came when she was ready. Just be patient. Everything will run it's course when it's supposed to. If you're past your due date, then talk to your doctor.
