With both of my kids, their gums didn't look all that different. Right before my daughter cut her first tooth there were white lumps visible under the gums.

I agree pretty much with the previous poster.. they might look a little redder with some white areas where the teeth start showing thru.. those cold rings that you put in the freezer are good and the numzit and teething tablets help some.. I used to give my baby a big cold carrot to knaw on while I held it, of course.. they loved it.. but you have to supervise it

Sometimes they can look a little pinker, or swollen, or like there are white-ish spots. Sometimes they look no different than normal. If you suspect your child is teething, they probably are.
