french toast! lots of protien and whole grains (if you use whole wheat bread), any kind of toast ...it is soft enough for lack of teeth. Also try mixing the cereal up to give a new taste. Try Rice Krispies with banana and/or strawberries cut up in it...oatmeal, any kind of hot cereal. Muffins, banana loaf...lots of choices!!

I agree with the others. My daughter does great with yogurt, fruit, french toast, scrambled eggs and even muffins. When she was teething if would give her frozen bananas & frozen waffles (cut up). I also make Popsicles with blended yogurt, fruit & juice or milk.

When my 20 month isn't in the mood for his cereal, he always has pancakes or whole wheat waffles.

All the suggestions are good. What ever they will eat. If they don't eat anything they will be fine. They go though stages. Their taste changes. Keep try different things. Introduce new things. No baby has ever gone hungry.

You could begin to introduce baby food as alot of jarred baby cereals mixed with yogurt &/or fruit are available. However, if you want to be financially smart and go organic take any of the fruits & vegetables that you would eat and process them yourself at home, i.e. peas, corn, beans, sweet potatoes, squash, roast or chicken & vegetables. Just be sure to note that you may want to cut back on the seasoning and some of these will need liquids added for processing. You can then pour these "meals" into an ice tray and freeze in your freezer. Once frozen, break free from the ice tray and place in freezer bags/containers for later use. Just defrost when ready to use. I wish I had learned to do this with my two older children as it would have saved me a lot of money. My youngest thinks he's grown up because he eats like the rest of us. He won't even take the toddler meals that I find reasonably priced at a local discount store because he is used to our table food.

Also, I agree with Meghan, all of my children love yogurt. Another good & simply idea is scrambled eggs, oatmeal or even cream of wheat. At 20 months he may even be able to eat cereals such as Cheerios and Rice Krispies.

My 21m/o son LOVES oatmeal. Has it every morning, w/some sort of fruit on the side. If my husband or MIL are taking care of breakfast they sometime mix a little apple sauce or jam in w/the oatmeal to make it sweeter. I just make it w/rice milk. He likes it pretty dry so he can pick it up w/his hands. No soupy cereal here! :)

i feed my 13 month old anything and everything the 2 year old eats! And he only has 2 on the bottom. They LOVE Bananas, yogurt mixed with dry baby cereal or oatmeal mixed w/ yogurt (all spoon fed of course.) Mine tolerates cheerios well, but to each their own because of the choking hazard. Pancakes are fantastic! nice and soft or waffles. Scrambled eggs are great.....the list goes on. He's old enough now that he can eat anything you do.

my 13 mth old eats her meals in the wrong order!! She usually has Sandwich for breakfast, a hot lunch (usually last nights leftovers!) and then has cereal for dinner. Cereal fills her up more before she sleeps at night.
There is no rule that we have to eat our meals in a set order. Offer your little boy anything he likes (healthy option would be better :) ). He might prefer yougart and fruit, sandwich or eggs and toast first thing in the morning.
As long as kids get all the right foods at some point through out the day it doesn't matter which order they eat it in.
Good luck
Also my 3 yr old went through a no fruit period - So i started adding tiny chopped up fruit to dessert - if she wanted some jelly or ice cream or custard she had to eat the fruit too. It didn't take long before she was back to loving fruit and now she has an appled most nights after dinner :)

There is no reason you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast. You said probably no eggs or dairy products? I would suggest soy yogurt or soy cheese, tofu, white or brown rice with beans or rice with some type of protein (shredded chicken, beef or fish) and a cooked mashed vegetable if he dislikes fruit. Mashed potato or a potato pancake with some kind of pureed fruit topping or crepes also seem to work pretty well.

They don't need alot of teeth to eat pretty much the same foods that we eat. Try scrambled eggs, yogurt, banana, pancakes. I have 3 kids and they stopped eating baby cereal at about 8 months. My 19 month old is eating all the things above for breakfast and now he is eating milk and cherrios with his own spoon. Hope that this helps!

if your worried about his lack of teeth there are these food soothers you can buy. its just a mesh like bag with a screw on cap/handle. it was perfect for my son when trying new foods. he was kinda picky so i found that if he couldn't really see the food i was giving him he'd try anything. it's really nice if its steak night or a food that is harder to chew.

Dessert Tofu ... comes in 2 perfect child size servings and in a few good flavors, my son loves it. We also make a big batch of pancakes and freeze then and microwave one when needed. Apple and Banana slices with peanut butter (almond butter or even tahini butter), Mashed Avacado on toast, soft taco shells filled with jam and peanut butter rolled up and cut into little discs (can also fill with cream cheese) cottage cheese with small berries, bran muffins or carrot muffins ...
Just because breakfast used to be cereal and toast doesn't mean it still has to be, BE creative :)

My Cheyenne likes just about anything I give her to eat. She is 20 months and loves toast with jelly and bananas. She also likes oatmeal and yogurt for a change. She will eat grits with sunny side up or scrambled eggs mixed with it. She also loves Honey Nut Cheerios and Rice Crispies. But she is also a teenage eater as well because she loves to eat cold pizza when I eat it.... lol.

As for the fruit issue you are having with your little one, try a variety of different things. Try bananas with a little peanut butter on them, or a banana sandwich. Have you tried to feed him the baby cereal with actual fruit in it that way also? He might like it that way.

When I was switching my girl from her baby cereal to table food, I mixed the regular food with her baby food and over a few weeks time, just used less and less baby food to get her over to table food. Once she got to regular table food, she wouldn't eat anything else. So now, she will eat just about anything she can get her hands on.

As for the teeth issue, you are gonna have to find things that he likes to eat that are somewhat firm so that it will help him cut his teeth better. My girl has a mouth full of teeth now, but don't worry. All children progress in their own time and it could be that it just isn't his time for his teeth to come in yet.

Don't get discouraged. I am sure you are doing a wonderful job.

My almost 17month old also has only 7 teeth and refuses anything I try to give her. She wants to feed herself! So I put food on her tray in a bowl with a spood and walk away. She will eat everything. Messy but gone. In the mornings she will polish off a bowl of rice cripy cereal mixed with cheerios. I find that if I just relax about it and give her time she will eat. Good Luck!
Have you tried cereal bars? or Farley biscuits?

I gave my boys a Juice Plus+ smoothie . It has no eggs or milk. It is delicious and they still love it today. It has the micronutrients from fruits and vegetables and other whole foods. If you send me your e-mail address, I'll send you the ingredients. If you like what you see, I'll mail you a sample to taste it.I taught Kindergarten and the kids would love when we would make smoothies at snacktime. roejp@comcast,net

My 16 month old LOVES homemade oatmeal with lots of raisins, cinamon, and nutmeg. She'll eat anything, especially flavorful things. She also likes scrambled eggs. But, don't feel limited to breakfast foods and stay away from sugar. I give her all kinds of things - fruit, different beans (she frequently requests "beans!"), yogurt, cottage cheese, whole wheat toast, steamed veggies. I feed her whatever we are eating unless it's spicy or otherwise inappropriate.

Is he refusing baby cereal or regular cereal? Cheerios? He can eat eggs. They are soft and he can chew them. Bananas, cut the crust off of bread and lightly toast the bread and put some butter on it. I would give him cheerios with a little milk to soften them up, try some of the flavored instant oatmeal. There are lots of soft breakfast foods to give him. Good luck. Good to get him started too on a variety of foods.

Grilled cheese on toast! Cut up in little squares and bubs can just pick em up themselves easily! Yogurt definitely. Pro-biotics in them help prevent the niggly little viruses that loom in the air. Chop/mash up fruit and throw it in with cooked oats. Daddy can't even keep his hands off of the bub's brekkie!

Try yogurt's, fruit puree's and even soggy weetbix with a little honey or even milo (works a treat).... porridge is another gr8 one but a little suggestion if u do try it is .... cook on stove with milk (not water) add sugar to desired taste and add a couple of drops of Vanilla esence .... Kids love it and u can add ur childs favorite fruit to it as well like apple or sultanas.
Eggs either scrambled or as soft boiled are really good and something thats really soft and all kids seem to love is crepes or hotcakes (pancakes etc) Good luck and hope these suggestions help
