Both are. My son was a late talker and when he did start to talk he would get so mad and fustrated because no one knew what he wanted. I taught him some signs for simple things and he goes to speech. But before he could do that it was always, show mommy what you want. I also believe we do a lot of non verbal ques/talking everyday and do not see it. I know I can "hear" a person better if I can look at them when talking.

Both are very important....communication with your child is very paramount......and most importantly listen to your child, let them talk, listen that way you are able o know your child better.

It doesn't really matter, as long as they're able to understand one or the other. Our oldest was non-verbal until 4 years, we had given up on him ever learning any type of communication. He had a lot of frustration because of it (both the fact that he couldn't express what he wanted and he couldn't understand us verbally or with non-verbal communication). The ability to communicate and understand communication in any way is most important of all.

I think they're both very important. But mostly non verbal I believe, as people say, action are stronger than words. Especially having a 7 month baby who doesn't understand what I'm saying at the moment. She does understand I love her and I'm there for her and I play with her through my actions and interactions with her.

I think both are important. With children I think it is good if they can communicate verbally with you, and also if you can understand what they need if they cannot talk.
