My mom waited until I asked her to have them done! I remember it clearly, it was very exciting and totally worth the pain, cause I chose my own earrings and was so proud of myself for getting it done too! I was 5 years old and it's a great memory that I have of me and my mom doing "grown up" stuff together! I think you have to look at why you want to do it when your little girl is still so young... kinda takes the fun out of it when they're older... nothing to look forward to! Personal opinion, but I'm glad my mom let me make the decision!

I personaly think is disgusting and looks horrid! I live in the UK and I think the morgority of people think the same and it is also seen as a cruffy/scumy thing to do. Allow I know it is different in other countrys and societys.

I could never imagin piercing my daughters ears, not until she is at least 12yr and desperately wanted it done. Not only do I think it looks horrid but I cant understand why as a mother you would risk having them done at such a young age, if infected they may loose thier ears....I have know of it!! Not only that but what if they have a allergic reaction or simply swallow the earrings. The risks out way the cuteness in my mind, no matter how cute you may find it. Why not get them tattoo'd too, I dont see much differents if your willing to cause pain to your child just because it looks cute.

But I guess on a hole there much worse you could put your child through and if your happy that the risks are worth it then thats your choice.

The question is " is it really that cute and are the risks big enough?? "

I had my daughter's ears pierced at 4 months old. I thought it was a good time because she wasn't grabbing her ears yet and it wouldn't be so traumatizing at that age. I also called around to earpiercing places and went to Piercing Pagoda at the mall because the manager was there to do it and said she had 7 years experience. It turned out well. She's 8 months old now and hasn't touched them and they haven't gotten infected.

If she was 6 months old, I would say go for it, because she would only cry for a little while and she won't play or pull on them. But since she is already 9 months I would wait until she is ready to have them pierced, that way she won't be touching or playing with the earings, which could then get infected.

Hi Amber

I got my daughter's ear's pierced when she was 3 months old....I figured do it now so she doesn't remeber the pain later...she looks so cute with them and has never touched them or had them infected...they are just a part of her now....I say go for it!  Just make sure you do the cleaning for the first month and when you decided to change them make sure you get real gold earings...possibliity of less infection...hope this helps!

I personally wanted my daughters ear pierced as soon as I could get them done. I had them done when she turned 2 months old. Usually when they are that little 2 people do them at the same time but when I went the 2nd person was sick so she didn't want to get too close to my daughter (I thought that was very responsible on her part). So hers were done one at a time. I thought she would do worse then she did but by the time we were leaving the store she was done crying. I didn't feel bad about doing it,they didn't get infected, she didn't mess with them & they look great & are inline with each other!!

I am all for getting them pierced why wait until they can undertand and remember the pain plus they are so cute and help people know you have a girl. If or when I have a girl I will do it at like 3 months or so and you are always the one to take care of them so you know they are cleaned and everything  so I would not worried that much of infections- it's a good idea i'm for it...

If you're going to get them done.. get them done now. I waited too long and now i'm really afraid of getting my daughters pieced ( at 2) becaus I know she wont leave them alone and they'll just be infected. My mom had mine done when I was 2 months old  and I've loved them my whole life.. they are easy to clean, and take care of on a baby.. not a toddler.. Much luck and love

My mother got my ears peirced when I was 6 months old and even though I do not wear many earings now I love that I have the option whenever I want. Getting them done so young the holes never close up for me. I was also there when my cousin got hers peirced when she was a year and she did a great job with it. Now I buy her earings all the time. I say just take into account your child and make sure you clean regularly.

I had my little girls ears pierced and she done fine with them. Just make sure that you put the medicine on them and she will be fine. It is best to do it now than to wait until she gets older because she will not mess with them as much right now.

I had my daughter at 19 and got her ears pierced when she was 6 months old.  I was young and definitely wanted to do it.  Now I think it is a bit cruel but definitely think if you are going to do it, do it when they are young.  They don't mess with their ears as much.

My daughter cried of course and that broke my heart but it didn't last long.  She is 11 now and is so glad she has pierced ears.

Frist time she was 3. Besides my middle daughter, everything was fine. I wanted to do it, so people would stop calling my girls boys.

I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 6 mths old and I loved it. They were easy to take care of and she didn't mess with them at all. She is almost 4 years old now and having ear rings is just a natural thing for her. She loves to buy new ones to match her outfits. After 2 boys, I wanted a girl and all things girly!!!

Not a good idea. It's her ears and I think that just because you think it is cute it's not right to let your daughter go through that. They are her ears. I would wait until she older and wants them herself.

I got my daughters ears pierced at 3 mths, i was a worrier. She did great, I was lucky enough to see another little girl getting hers done before. Both girls cried a little but once it was done it was done. I actually did run into an infection with my daughters earrings, but I caught it early enough (there was only a small amount of puss the earring was not full of gunk) that I didn't have to keep the earring out. I looked it up online and found some treatments that worked out great. I almost didn't get my daughters ears pierced and I am so glad I did. It's better, I feel, to get it done while they're still little enough to not really be bothered by the pain. Hope you found this helpful! GOOD LUCK!!! =)

My daughter was three months when we got her ears pierced. I knew we wanted to do it and getting it done before she knew any different worked out great for us. She never had any problems with them getting infected and they were always there so she never picked at them. We had some friends that waited till their daughters were a little older and they had problems with the girls not leaving them alone and infections because of it. I think its really a person preference though. Whatever you're most comfortable with. Hopefully when you decide to do it, the experience will be a good one. Make sure you get good earrings whatever you decide. Some people do great with the surgical steel and others need pure gold. So, that's definitely something to consider no matter how old she is. And since you don't really change them much when they are so young, a good quality post is the best option. Plus, the ear cleaner stuff that they sell, is pretty important, and since she's young, she will be used to good ear care. Hope that helps :)

I have two daughters and had both of their ears pierced at 3.5 mths.  I had asked other moms where they had gone and the majority of them said the same place, which just happened to be where I went to get my brows waxed.   So that gave me comfort because I already new the staff and I knew that they were very clean.

When I was there I held them on my lap very tightly while two employees pierced their ears (at the same time).  Of course there was crying, but as soon as I turned them around and they saw me they were fine and all was forgotten.  My oldest is now 7 and she has never had an infection and my youngest is 14.5 mths and she as well has never had an infection.  The place where we went marked their ears and had me ok them before they pierced.

I decided to get them done at that age because I had mine when I was 10 or so and I remember that it hurt and I always had infection after infection because I would always touch them.

In the end it is your decision.  Do what you feel comfortable with and remember that there is always some kind of risk with everything we decide to do as parents.

I am not getting mine done just for the simple fact that I am not taking chances of it getting infected. And I want her to tell me when she wants them done. Also I don't like sleeping in earrings because it is uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong I think it is cute but not worth all the fuss

If you saw me in the circumsicion thread, you know that I'm personally against purely cosmetic proceedures of any kind in babies. I feel that all alterations should be the child's choice.

I've never wanted to get my daughters ears pierced mainly due to the fact that I think they should decide later in life if they want them done or not. I would also not want to risk infections and discomfort for the child with something that I had made a decision about, I personally cringe when I see a small child with their ears pierced, it just doesn't seem natural to me.

I too think pierced ears are cute. However, I am going to let it be my daughters choice. I was 7 when I got mine pierced and had many issues with my ears throughout the years. I now only wear earings on special occasions.

I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 6 months but then it came out and so we had to leave them out so they wouldn't get infected. We then tried to do it when she was 3 and that was an experience - it took a couple trips before both ears were done. The first ear went fine but she didn't care for it and wouldn't let them do the second ear.

I think that it comes down to the parents, but i believe that they are the most cutest thing that a baby girl can have, they all look so adorable with them in, gettin them done early would be the best, it will hurt, but they are so easily comforted at an early age, i know from my own experience that when ya get older, it hurts alot more then i remembered from when i was younger. hope this helps.

I think that if you are unsure then you shouldn't do it!! - my daughter got her ears pierced when she was old enough to ask me and understand that it is for the rest of her life etc(five)! with regards to the pain - she had it done on her birthday with four school friends, so she had to act tough infront of them! - she did tell me afterwards - "that hurt mummy - but i couldn't cry infront of them!" -I think i was nearly crying more than her! with it being her choice there are no comebacks on yourself for making the decision for her - it also made her 'feel important' about making a decision for herself.

i dont believe babies should have their ears pierced... i believe it is something that the child needs to decide for themselves... plus with ear infections and touching etc i didnt get mine done until i was over 4 and that was only because i really wanted them done..

I took my daughter when she was about almost 4 months. I first asked my pediatrician at what age would be appropriate and she reccommended after the babies shots were up to date. It took like less than 5 minutes to get it done and now shes 10 months looking cute with diamonds in her ears!!!!Her dad and I both agreed on it together so its all good! Good luck!!

the only safe way to pierce anything is with a hollow needle from a professional.

no professional will no a child that youngs ears. besides safty issues with it there are ethical ones as well.... such as what if she doesn't want her ears pierced? piercings heal when taken out but when done at such a young age normaly wont totally heal.

there is no need to make she 'cute' now she is cute enough already. let her at least be able to voice an opinion on the subject before you permanently alter her.

That should be an exciting choice that she chooses. And share that with her. Don't decide it for her. You want her to remember that experience and all the better to share it with you when she is of an age to remember it.

I believe in waiting. What if she doesn't want any body piercings? It will be really fun when you and your daughter can go together when she is ready. I had some friends whose daughter yanked one out. Not a pretty sight and it did get infected and seemed to really hurt. I have boys so no piercings as of yet. Good luck.

I had my daughter's ears pierced at 6 months. My reasoning for doing it so young was that she wouldn't remember it, I could take care of her ears, clean them to make sure they wouldn't get infected and by the time she's old enough to change them out herself, her ears will be well healed. She did cry but I stood by with a bottle. As soon as she was done I gave her the bottle and she forgot all about it. She doesn't pull at her ears or anything.

i had my daughters done at 3 months, they did them separately and she was no worse for the wear. she was fine and as long as you clean them the way your expossed to they would be fine. there are places out there that will do them at one time so it is less pain because it would happen all at once.

When she was 15 I asked her if she was happy that I allowed her to make that choice or if she had rather have had me done it to her when she was an infant. She looked me in the eye and said, I am so glad that you gave that choice for me to make. - That's my story, hope it helps others =)

I know how you fell - I was against getting my daughter's ears pierced when she was only a few months old. BUt after talking wiith her doctor - he actually encouraged it. He said that at a young age they do not play with their ears as much and have a less chance of infection. When you wait till they are older you have a greater chance of infection or playing with the earings/ears. My daughter is now 5 and has yet to have any problems with them and thinks they were always there!!! The only catch is I did not end up going with her to get them done (broke my heart to think I was hurting her)....So my mom and husband took her and she was fine. Good luck in your descision :)
