I heard the name Nevaeh (Heaven backwards)yesterday; pronounced Nev-ay-ya, and really like it, although my partner doesnt. I am interested to know other peoples opinions as he didnt like Ruby to begin with either! We have chosen the name Ruby Grace ____ for our daughter, but what do people think of the name Ruby Nevaeh-Grace____ ??

Why not just "Heaven"? Why does it have to be backwards? I think Heaven is a beautiful name....

Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Ruby Grace is an incredibly beautiful name. Don't mess it up with a backwards word. It's not even a name. It's a word backwards, that some people decided would be neato to name their child. A backwards word. Why didn't my parents just name me Yram instead of Mary? Yram is way cooler. Sorry if I sound rude. My SIL loves the name Neveah and we argue about it regularly.

Sorry but I hate it. Why would you name your daughter "heaven spelled backwards"-that's hell. It's a fad name and it gets a lot of criticism in other mommy boards I've visited.

it's a pretty name, but it's waaaaay over used. It was original and different 10 years ago. No offense, but it's also a stripper-ish sounding name (my friend's sister is a dancer, and she's known about 25 girls that use this as their stage name)

The name is not overused in my part of Kansas. It is unique and I really like the name. I like unique names and to me Nevaeh is that. We have a daughter Tylene which we had never heard of until after we named her.

I am not a fan of the name. Having a name that is hard to pronounce sucks. Trust me I have one. I have to constantly correct people and hafl the time they sit there for a moment trying to figure out how to pronounce my name correctly. Plus it is a very popular name. It has become very trendy. I know a lof of kids with that name.

I personally can't stand it. If you want a child with a religious name choose one from the bible and use it spelled the same way. This is just my personal opinion

Go with what you want, your childs name will be beautiful and unique because you've chosen it..It doesnt matter if no one else likes it or what they say about it,its whether you and your partner likes it and thats it.I like the name...You could have chosen Sunday Rose like Nicole Kidman did, would you get as much stick for that as you have for Nevaeh??

i have heard a lot of people name their daughters nevaeh. i dont think its very unique. but also you cant name ur kid something that no one else has as a name, so do what you like. its your kid. like my son, i named him leo and so many older ppl n my family told me not to name him leo william but william leo because they said leo is too old of a name and he would be made fun of. but everyone i tell his name to now thinks it fits him well and is adorable, so do what makes you happy. :)

I think you need to go with your gut when naming your kids.

That said, you want to know people's opinions on it (which is why you posted your question to begin with, right? :0) I think it's overly used and is going to be one of those "one hit wonder, fad" type of names that seemed "really big" for a while but then ten years from now people are going to be thinking, "Really? Where did that come from?"... IF that doesn't bother you then you're set... I always tend to favor names that are classic and maybe not as popular (without being too far out there)...

There's my two cents. Good luck!

Why not just heaven??? What's with all the rederick? Jesus how about a good old fashioned name like Becky, or Susie, or Linda. So sick of the BS. Let's get back to basics, and God, and loving our nation!! Maybe Ol Glory for a name LOL

[deleted account]

I think it is funny that people are trying to come up with odd/different names. My son Billy was the only Billy/Bill in any of his classes growing up and no he wasn't in small classes. He now calls his son William which is every other kid. Go figure! I do like the name you chose but there will be lots of Rubys in your daughter's class. If you like it use it. Esp. if it has a nice feel to you.

I'm not fond of Neveah at all, but I have a Ruby and get compliments everywhere we go (on her name). It's a family name in our case, but I've always loved it, and she lives up to the fiery aspect of it. ;o) Good luck with your decision!

Sometimes we pick a name we like but don't think of how the child will have to deal with it.. Isaac Aaron and Ezra are our sons' names and all 3 and myself as well(Cheryl, is that wi a C or an S and how do you spell that?)Have had to go thru life sounding out(Ezra) or spelling their names for people, Isaac, is that Isac, Issac..Aaron, is that Aron Erin or? and Ezra, is that Israel or Ezora? anyway you get my point.. I like simple names now LIke Dawn, Hope, Grace, Eve,April(my own daughter in law) Tina..but they may be too old school or ? for you.. just remember, the child will have to deal with this all their life!

Thanks everyone for the comments!

I had no idea Nevaeh was such a commonly used name as id NEVER heard it until seeing it on 16 and pregnant, it seems it is a common name in America rather than in England as none of my friends or family had heard of it until i said.

Ruby is just going to be Ruby Grace Barrellie (as she is taking her fathers name) as it flows nicely and its something we both like!! (and my grandma can pronounce all the names, unlike with Nevaeh as she was telling people i was calling her Ruby Surveyor :D )

Thanks again for the comments

P.S. 1st, Nevaeh is NOT hard to pronounce, OMG, give me a break! There are names from all diff cultures and languages that may be hard for someone else to pronounce though, so what! Also, some people don't even try, they just slaughter a name before putting some thought into reading it and thinking about it's true pronunciation. That's their problem. Really people!? 2nd, Nevaeh is NOT common, it may be trendy or on the rise, but definitely not common, not even in the top 100 names in this country, come on. Funny to me how many ladies are saying that Ruby or Grace is more unique, really? Both those names have been around for over a hundred years, though cute and special, I wouldn't say they are unique. Grace is quite popular and Ruby is on the rise. So what! If you like a name, boring, unique, simple, complicated, hard to spell, hard to pronounce, with meaning, without, basic, or even if there are 20 of that name on your street, who cares? Name your child what you want! People have very strong opinions about names, I do too, mine is do what you want! Some people enjoy the way Neveah sounds, not just that it's Heaven spelled backwards. Maybe it sounds pretty to these people. Goodness, just shocked at the slams people are posting about this name. Names like Ava, Madison, Sophia, Avery, those are the kind of names girls everywhere have lately! Lots of people are traditional and simple with name choosing, they like a name & so do thousands of others, nothing wrong with that, just means people loved that name! I personally like some names that are traditional or classic and some of them are ugly to me, and I like some unique or even daring out there names. My son's name is different, and I could give a care if someone doesn't like it, guess what I grew him in my womb for 9 months, he is my heart, my soul and I named him what I liked. One last thing, people who say pick a name that won't be made fun of are ridiculous. Kids make fun of each other regardless of names. These days classrooms and playgrounds in this country are full of non-traditional names. Don't be scared off by that. People should learn to be more accepting of differences not be lame and homogenous all the time. Thanks for letting me rant. Just my two cents.

I love Ruby & Grace. Just had a friend name her newborn Ruby & I've always thought I might use Grace (which is a popular name, but I don't care because I adore it) in a girl's name if I ever have one. I'm not a huge fan of Nevaeh, though it's pretty and I like that it's a unique spin on Heaven. Surprised that it's the first time you're hearing it. I've known girls with this name quite a bit over the past 10 years or so. I wouldn't say it's popular, but it got a little more used in some circles of moms more recently. Go with whatever name you love. I wouldn't worry about what others think too much. It's your baby, your heart, your opinion and preference, period. Good luck!

My grandbaby's middle name is Nevaeh, and she is our little piece of Heaven! This is your child, name her what you want! It isn't as popular here as it is in Kristyn's area; once you tell people what it means, they love it.

oh dear, ANOTHER nevaeh....i am a midwife and have delivered almost 1000 babies. maybe 25-50 have been nevaehs. that's a lot of little girls with that name. i have practiced in philly, new jersey, and now in texas, and it's popular everywhere. resist the temptation!
i really like ruby grace. i picked ruby for a girl's name but my husband didn't like it either. our daughter, now 5, is named sofia rose.

Both names are gorgious!! my friend named her daughter Nevaeh and it was the first I had heard of it. I love it!! It's different, unique and it has sentimental value ya kno :)) If he doesn't like the name, maybe let him pick the first name and you keep that as the second. Hope it works out for yall;

The sentiment is felt, but the kid may have a hard time spelling it and pronouncing it when in school. No matter what you name your child, someone else is bound to have that name, or many others in any given area of the planet, at any time. So, you name your baby what you like.

Someone recommended Heaven as a first name. I really like that too! Heaven Nevaeh........that's my vote. LOL But I still do really love Nevaeh as a first name, and people will get used to it. If it's as common as everyone says it is, there shouldn't be any reason why people wouldn't know how to pronounce it correctly off paper. I say go for it!

I think it's beautiful. I am surprised to hear people saying it is common, we have never heard of it before we met a girl at JCPenney who was selling us curtains say her daughter was named 'Heaven backward'. MY husband and I both like the name and are thinking of it for our next child if we have a girl.

I prefer Ruby Grace - its much prettier & unique. It will stand the test of time - think college, job interviews. IMO Nevaeh is not a good name at all - like Vanessa said - why would you want to name a child the opposite/backwards name of Heaven/Paradise? I just don't get it. It's really way too trendy. It is already very common & think of her high school graduation - do you want to wait to hear 30 Nevaeh's names called out in between your daughters name?

Whatever name you choose, you might want to do an internet search for it, to see what turns up. (Yes, I know, the tv show, but there might be more.) Try it out, & see what other people might think of when they hear/see it. Also, I agree with what other moms are saying, that she will have to correct teachers, coaches, friends, ect, but by that time it will be a popular time. Maybe all these people will have figured out how to say it by then? Whatever, it's your daughter, & it really doesn't matter what we all think. Do what you & your partner choose to do, and God bless!

[deleted account]

I'm not much of a fan. But she is YOUR child, so you should name her that if you and your husband both love it!

I personaly dont like any of those names. Ruby and Grace are both easy to pronounce though and everyone knows what it says when they read it on paper. Nevaeh on the other hand could possibly work for a middle name since she wont really go by that. But Nevaeh for a first name I think would kinda suck for your kid no one will ever pronounce it right and when they read it on paper they will be like what the heck is that. I have no clue how to say that although the way you wrote it Nev-ay-ya helped me figure out how it would be said but with out that I looked at it and was like what the heck does that say. I think sometimes people try too hard to come up with something different and unique and it just turns out to be some name no one even knows how to say right. So thats my opinion. I hope it wasnt offensive in anyway thats just what I think.

My daughter's name is Addyson Payge.....my husband picked it out when I was preg with my son in 2003. In 2006 when I had her that is when Grey's has been out for about 2 or 3 years. I wanted something different also, and now a days you hear Maddison and even Addison sometimes because of the show!! My cousin still to this day hates it cause she says it is some kind of diese. So in other words she is YOUR child name her what YOU want no matter what anyone else thinks of the name!! Spell it different change one or two letters if you have too!! Good luck!!
