When my daughter started Kindergarten, I felt like I entered a time warp backwards in technology: incredibly, paper rosters are still in use. Moms, what do your schools use to disseminate parent contact info?

I am a school teacher but my oldest will be in pre k next year. We give out emergency contact info cards each year and have them fill it out.

I know that at my daughter's school, it is a parent volunteer who manages the parent roster, so they collect the information separately for that reason, and then the parent volunteer has some paperwork to work with. It may be just something like that.
The other thing is, that with things like excursions, they need actual signatures, and they need permissions slips filled in for their records as evidence. Computer check boxes aren't sufficient evidence. It's the whole "duty of care" thing, and with some things, duty of care is on a teacher by teacher or class by class basis with respect to maintaining evidence.

I'm curious if you are asking what they use the information for, or how are they collecting it, or something else I'm missing.
We don't do as much paperwork since my daughter is in high school, in earlier grades we had reams of stuff to sign and or read. I think we filled out ten pages this year

Hi Dove, yes I'm referring to the paper forms, paper rosters, teacher after teacher asking for the same exact info on back to school night. Does any school have a better way?

We fill out tons of paper forms. I don't know exactly what they do with them. I'm sure they input information into the computer as well, but sometimes grabbing a piece of paper from a file can be faster/easier than searching something on the computer. Especially if the computer has every kid in the school (for office use) and the paper rosters are for each class (for teacher use).
I'm not quite sure if you are referring to all the papers that the parents fill out at the beginning of each year or not...
