I am trying to wean my son onto formula before I go back to work. Pediatrician said he has a protein allergy and suggested similac allimentum or nutramigen. we have tried both and they make him miserable...terrible gas pains, crying all night, and constipation. Are they any other forumlas that seem to work? we have also tried similac sensitive.

my daughter has been in soy formula since she was 2 days old. she has done great. she has acid reflux and takes zantac daily. you may want to ask your dr about acid reflux-they now are starting to realize that alot of colic is acid reflux and it is alot worse at night. i have twin boys that had it too. they were on the nutramigen formula and still takes zantac daily at age 3 and a half. good luck and God bless you and your family.

My mom actually said to try carnation brand...I don't know if they still make that? I thought that I heard it was now Nestle Good Start?

Try Infomil pro soy is the best formula for babies. My parents have been foster parents for 39 years and have fostered over three hundred kids mostly babies. My parents swear by this formula. My mom thinks all docters should just put kids on this to sve them from having gas. I used the carnation soy formula cause it is cheaper and it does not smell as much. I am not sure if they still make that brand of formula.

Is this a protein allergy or dairy allergy? My son has GA-1, similiar to Dana Wheeler's PKU child. This kind of a protien issue has to be taken very seriously to avoid crisis. Not sure if most people are aware of disorders like these.

soya milk can caause consepation in young children. but my son is fine with it and he keeps it down, maybe its a worse case of an interlonce / allergie. as neocate, pepti nutrigum has still got milk protien in it, if u are still unsure look the different forumlas up on the internet.

honestly it wont harm ur baby, gook luck let me know the out come. x

While in the NICU my daughter was Neocate; when we left they had changed to Elecare mixed with my dairy free milk (I gave up dairy products to be able to nurse my daughter). We have tried Alimentum and Nutrigren and she HATES them both and pretty much gags herself on them. When we went back to the little bit of Neocate we had left she took that OK. It is by prescription only but I would ask your ped about it. However be advised it is even more expensive than the Alimentum or Nutrigren which are more expensive than milk based formulas. Also be careful trying the soy based formula because depending on your child's exact protein allergy the soy can cause a problem as well. The neo in the NICU said no cow, goat or sheep milk or any kind and no soy.

Good luck!

My daughter doesn't have a protein allergy per se... but she has PKU and does require a formula without protein in it. Ask for a prescription.

if the alimentum isn't helping and making him worse i would talk to the pedi. my son too has a protein allergy and was on alimentum and then switched to a prescription formula. Also have they maybe thought it could be reflux?
