Generally ther is ADD Attention Defecit Disorder, or there is ADHD attention defecit Hyperactivity disorder.
The explanation that workds best for me is that the chemicals in the brain are out of sync and either too much or too little of them is being produced by the body. These are natural "ingrediants' for 'normal' functioning of the brain and necessary to drive the body clockwork.
ADD children are usually very quiet "off with the fairies" kids. In school it takes a long time for the teacher to notice that little "johnny' is actually not doing any work because he is watching the fly buzzing past him.
ADHD children can be like that also, but more common is the major behaviour of being everywhere at once and jittery, pen clicking or some other distractive or destructive behaviour.
If you think your child is showing any of these sort of behaviours a team of specialists is necessary for correct diagnosis and help. In Australia the child health clinic can help with referral to experts. Some of the medcications used to help return the balance to the brain is amazing but i would advise a lot of thought and research before taking that step.
If you want to know more ( i have kids with the conditiion) please ask on my profile page as the answers can be rather large.

It's attention deficit disorder. It's to do with the child's behaviour and cognitive skills
