What is an alternative name for grandmother?

We have a Grandma, Mamaw, and a Grammy and a Nana. I am her "step" grandmother, but since I have been with my husband since the mom was four, I really do feel like she is part mine (and so does she). Since I don't want any confusion or to step on any toes I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions?

My Mum is Nonna to my daughter and nephews - it's the Italian term for grandmother. Not that we're Italian lol. My Mum just liked it, and saw it as a good alternative.

We have gwandma and gwanpaw... then we have granma Anka for my eldests step grandma... but my youngest calls her Fammu... (fathers mother in Swedish as he is a Swedish speaking Finn). For mothers mother...its Mummu. :) Which I really like but its not appropriate.

My Moms Stepmother was always called Mimi. I was supposed to be called Nanna, but my Granddaughter started saying Nanny and that has stuck for the 2 I have so far. In Italian; Grandmother is called Nonna . Hope this helps

I have heard of Nanny and Nene and since my hubby is Dutch his mother is called Oma by all the grandkids. Another solution that i have seen is that the kids add the name i.e. Nanny Becky and Nanny Mary if the parents on one side are divorced but both mom and step mom are involved in the children and grandchildrens lives.

My children have 2 Nanas, 1 Pap, 1 Berber, 2 Mimi's, 1 Grandy, and a Poppy. They don't call any of them Grandma or Grandpa.

I am called "Meemah" by my first grandaughter...I'm not sure if it's the right spelling...my grandaughter picked the name and it stuck!!..we love it..I've seen it spelled "meema", "meemaw"..etc.. My second grandaughter is too young to call me anything yet but I'm hoping she'll like Meemah...good luck..

I am "Mi-Mi" (pronounced me-me) to my stepdaughters son. 'Step' is just a technicality with us too. She is mine as is he! =)

My daughter calls my mom Mima (Mee-Mah) and my dad Pipa. (Pea-Pah) I have no idea where she picked it up since all 5 of her other grandchildren (my brother and sister's kids) call them grandma and grandpa. She started calling them that when she was about 9 months old! It's soooo adorable. She's almost 7 and still calls them by her special names.

If you have German background..."Oma" is grandma in German. Grandpa in German is "Opa."

My whole side of the family is from Germany and that is where I was born. So when my son came along we thought long and hard about what he would call my mom, and Oma is the german word from grandma so it just kind of stuck. For my oma he calls her oma-oma. and my dad is grandpa. My in laws are MawMaw and PawPaw. So it worked out perfectly. Plus Oma is a name you dont hear to often. :)

My side of the family is Hispanic, so my daughters call my mother "abuela" which is Spanish for grandmother. My niece and nephew call her abuelita which is the equivalent to grandma or granny. When she was alive, I called my grandmother on my mother's side mami (like mommy) because that is what my mother called her. ;) while my mother was mamita. Kinda like big mommy and little mommy.

They call my mother-in-law grandma, while their great-grandmother (husband's grandma) is G-ma or grandma Carol.

Hello Becky! When my first grandchild was born, I figured no way will I be "Grandma." My best friend was with me when she was born, and she just popped up with "MamaLa." It fits me to a tee. Now after three grandchildren, the youngest (almost 2) calls me "LaLa." If it helps, ask your granddaughter what will be comfortable for her to call you and go with that. (I apologize, but I simply hate that title "Step." It sounds like someone who doesn't want to be a part of the new family they adopted.) When it's all said and done anyway, it's not the name, but the relationship. God bless.

My granddaughter is 3 weeks old, and i have been using Mamaw, but coincidentally that's is what my mother in law is called by all of her grandchildren. She is mines great grandmother, so I don't see that changing. We can't even use Mamaw Bolton, because she is a Mamaw Bolton too!LOL and like I said, we already have a nana too. Gosh who knew it would be so hard?

The Dutch word for grandma is Oma. Since my husband and I are both Dutch that's the name my son uses for his grandmothers.
