I know this sounds crazy, but if you cover their head in mayo then put on a shower cap (or anything to cover the hair) then let them sleep in it...you can comb their hair out easily & the mayo isn't hard to wash out either...Good Luck

When my sister was in elementary she lived with headlice. My mom tried everything from shampoos, combing, picking... i mean everything. Finally she called a doctor to ask him and he suggested miracle whip and a plastic bag. What you do is cake there hair with the miracle whip and then wrap the plastic bag "Walmart" around it and tie at the bottom with a hair tie. Keep it on for as long as you can handle and depending on hair length and type. Then comb out as you would with the medicine. They hate dirty hair!

Sorry to hear you have to go through with this horrible situation! I never have had to....yet.
What suggestions does the pediatrician give? make sure all of the bed linens, clothes, hats, towels are laundered properly, or the lice will never die. Good luck.

I came across someone's post in another group about how they dealt with their kids lice. It's for parents who do not want to use harsh chemicals.
Their solution was this:
1 litre of cheap hair conditioner- pour off about 3/4- 1 cup and leave the rest in the bottle. Add 50ml lavender oil, 50ml tea-tree oil, 50ml eucalyptus oil.[make sure they are 100% not diluted oils]
Screw the lid back on and shake until well mixed. Cover their heads with it, making sure that it's through their hair. Leave on for at least 10mins and rinse out. Do this everyday, for 4-5 days and problem is solved.
The hair conditioner method, needs NO extensive combing.
Hope that helps everyone.
You need to do all the family. Because headlice like everyones head. Short hair, long hair etc., She suggested covering the hair with a plastic shower cap while the conditioner is left in during bathtime.

Try putting vinegar mix with citronella in your child's hair then cover it with a plastic hair cap for 2 hours then wash with water or let the child take a bath. After which you have to dry it up and pick the nits out and use the lice comb( fine-toothed comb) to remove the dead lice.

I have found that the only way to do it properly is to get an electric zapper. I got mine from Boots, it was about £16.
The good thing is that you don't need to mess, as it goes straight through the hair. Concerntrate on the back of the neck and behind the ears. It will also electricture the eggs.
I do it as soon as he comes in from school. It takes two minutes to ensure he is clear.
I also agree with the treetree, but I put it neat behind his ears and they don't want to come onto him.
Hope this helps.

Have you tried Results? It is the only shampoo we have found that actually works. Children two years and younger shouldnt have any lice shampoo used on their heads, instead you have to pick them out by hand. Also treatment needs to be repeated 7 days later, so to kill any bugs that may of hatched between that time. Unfor you can do all these steps and it may not help, because if others in your school system or friends of your childrens friends have not be treated.
Wash all bed linens and clothing that's been recently worn by anyone in your home who's infested in very hot water (130° Fahrenheit, 54.4° Celsius), then put them in the hot cycle of the dryer for at least 20 minutes.
Don't wash your child's hair for 1 to 2 days after using a medicated treatment.
Don't use more than one head lice medication at a time.
