for our son we mixed some pumped milk with 2oz of formula for one week and uped the formula every week and cut back on the breast milk. pump from now on so it will be only bottles and the baby will be less likely to reject if they know it's breastmilk in the bottle. for the frist few days use only breast milk in the bottle adn then start to add formula. get someone else to feed him also so he wont rely on your breast. worked for us:)good luck

Use mostly breast milk in a bottle mixed with a little formula, and slowly scale back the breast milk as you add more formula. Eventually have it all be formula. It takes about a month.

Quoting Vicki:

Pick one feeding a day, and substitute that feeding with formula (you're going to feel full, too, but don't pump - you'll only increase your milk supply!).

After several days, substitute a second feeding with formula (nursing in between the two formula feedings).

After several days of that - I nursed in the morning, and substituted feedings with formula until I felt really full, then nursed for a feeding.

I always made sure I nursed first thing in the morning and the before bed feeding, but I only needed to do that for about a week, if I remember correctly, then I could skip the morning nursing, and eventually, I didn't feel full at all and my baby was completely on formula!

Good luck!

Hey, this is pretty well how i did it! Feeds in the morning and night and formula the rest- eventually my supply dried up and my baby started rejecting my breasts. He is now fully formula fed as of a couple of weeks ago.

I always added a formula feed to my children when they breast fed and they didn't seem to mind either way (in the end) how they got their milk just as long as they got it. When I first started with the bottle however they wouldn't accept the milk from it and cried - bit the bottle - refused to take it in their mouth, but you just have to keep trying (I started with one feed a day - always the same feed) till they got used to it and then you can introduce it to other feeds. With mine it took about a month before they happily took the bottle but then - as I said - they'd drink their milk however it came.

Depends on how your baby will accept the formula. I agree with Melissa, it should be gradual. You even migt have to change z kind of formula if he/she doesnt like a brand or so. Once u feel his stomach adapted to z formula u can decrease breastfeeding. At this age it can be easy cause ur baby should be having solid food too, so u r not breastfeeding/formula feeding as much.
Sometimes babies like to feed on z breast for z feeling of security or soothing, also consider this.
Good luck.

slowly, start off with maybe one or 2 formula feeds a day and graduly increase the amount.
