Depends on the sex. For girls you could do a dress up party and do manicures and pedicures. For my son's birthday last year he wanted a "guys day", so my husband took him and 4 of his closest friends to have pizza and then bowling.

My friend's husband did this for his wife's birthday, but I bet it could translate for little 9 year olds.

He had all her girl friends come over and had it catered at the house and set up a princess station where they made wands, tiaras, and had feather boas and fake jewelry. He even purchased bead kits so they coud make their own bracelets.

It was quite the hit and it has been the most fun birthday I've been to in a while. I'm sure you could do the same.

We just went to a laser tag party. It was fun for the little ones too (I mean 5 years and up). The dads all played while the moms watched. Great time. Mini-golf or bowling is also fun, and not at your house where they are all running around anywhere. Skating parties is also fun for 9 year old birthday parties, ice or roller.

I think a trip or activity like an amusement park where the child can bring a few friends is a fun 9 year old birthday party idea. (Or camping!)

Laser Tag is a lot of fun for 9 year old boys. Both of my boys have had several laser tag parties. If you live in the NW check out The Reptile Man. He comes to your house with all kinds of reptiles. Best birthday party ever.

For my niece, who just turned 8, Chuck E. Cheese is a never fail option. For about $100 you can feed & entertain 5-7 kids. If you sign up for their newsletter you'll get some good coupons, too. We've also done a Hannah Montana themed party for her. We did karoke, a dance contest, decorate your own party hat & bag, etc. We also have a place locally called Fun Expedition. It's got laser tag, go-carts, batting cages, & lots of games. A party for 10 kids runs almost $200- an hour in the party room, 4 pizzas, balloons, a party waitress, 1 hour game play card, $5 token game card, & all access to the soft play area for all the kids. Depending on your budget you could modify pretty much any idea to meet your needs. :)
