I had a C-section for my first child and had really wanted a natural, med free birth. I plan to have another child and still want a natural birth. Has anyone done this? What was it like? Is it a bad idea?

I had a C-section because my daughter was frank breech.  She was also 6 weeks early, so she was small.

Quoting Megan:

What was your reason for your first c-section? Most likely you will be able to try a VBAC--there are really only a few medical reasons that would make a repeat c-section necessary. Most women--80%--can have successful VBACs. Yes there are risks---less than 1% risk of uterine rupture. However there are actually greater risks with c-sections. I had a VBAC 8 months ago and it was so amazing. I recommend doing your research and finding someone who is 100% supportive and encouraging and pointing out ways to help you succeed not someone who is just tolerant or saying you can try and then pointing out why you wouldn't succeed. I have started a VBAC support blog that has a lot of good resources so if you want to check it out it is www.thepathtovbac.blogspot.com. If you have any more questions I would be happy to help. I wish you the best!

Bridget, I had a natural birth after a c-section that was med free, however it was not by choice. I was told by my previous Dr's that if we were going to have any more children, that another c-section was the only option. My 2nd Son came 6 weeks early and by the time I arrived to the hospital I was pass the point of getting any meds, so I had to push. I did tear some, but not much. The healing was much, much, easier with the natural birth compared to the c-section. My experience was not by choice, but I did live to tell about it.

my VBAC went fine it was my 3rd child I got a little scared with all the "staticstics" they have to tell you and then they had to induce me which they said they wouldn't do for a VBAC, and almost decided to go with another c-section but I'm glad I went trough with the VBAC!!!! :) If you need some support I'm here :)

*oh and I forgot to add that I had my 1st natural and the VBAC was pretty much the same (well every delivery is different but as much as the "same" as it could be)

your doctor will do what is best for you. My first child was a C section, I delivered my second naturally with out any complications. The reason I had a C section the first time was I was 2 weeks over due. He was just a very big baby and wasnt possible for a natural birth. There was no problem with either one of my pregnacys both were very healthy babies. So it is possible to have a natural birth after a C section, like I said your doctor will do what is best for you and your baby. If I could choose which to do I would choose natural birth hands down. Hope this has helped you some.
