What's the worst thing you have accidentally done to your child??

I clipped the tips of 2 of my sons fingers with nail clippers when he was tiny, while cutting his hair he threw himself back and I cut him a tiny bit (thankfully I was using baby scissors with rounded tips), at 6 mo old he rolled off of a bed and fell to the floor (he was ok), and around 12 mo old my DH and I were holding his hands, he threw himself down and we didn't let go, he disconnected his elbow, my DH has also clipped his chin in the carseat buckle. He's 2.5 now and I'm just waiting for the next mishap. I just had a baby girl 6 weeks ago, and so far I've clunked her in the head with my phone twice and scratched he bum once with a fingernail. Accidents happen.

oh god you really do need eyes at the back of your head, my daughter has fallen down the stairs twice but thankfully was ok. then my son this morning fell out of the pram that was my fault :( i did strap him in but i never put his hands in cuz i was just sitting outside with him. feel like crap but its unavoidable, these things just happen :(

Oh dear, I think I have left each one of my children home alone accidently usually they were asleep and not being their usually noisy self so they didn't know. never for very long. one time I was sure all my kids were in the car and buckled in and got to church and my eight yearold called to remind me I had forgot him, of course the pastor answered the church phone. I wasn't sure I was gonna live that one down. He went back in for his Ipod or something he wasn't supposed to have inchurch anyhow.

I poured a glass of water over my eldest when he was only a couple of hours old. I'd had an 18 hour labour and finally givenbirth around 11pm. Obviously exhausted, I was woken after only an hour of sleep by my crying newborn. I pulled myself up , the epidural had yet to wear off, to attempt breastfeeding. After ten minutes I started to feel really dehydrated. I twisted myself around and managed to reach a glass of water by my bed. But as I went to take a sip, I lost my grip, and saturated my poor boy. Worst of all I was then stuck! Somehow I managed to hit the bell to call a midwife for help. To make me feel worse the midwife then wanted to know "why I'd done it?", as if I'd been deliberatly trying to drown him!!!

Anyway, there begins a long line of parental screw ups, from losing him in the supermarket, to falling down the stairs with him.

My baby only 4 months old has already had his thumb clipped and made a 20mile journey unbuckled. I'm sure I have many more to come, none of which will be deliberate.

I scatched my sons Forhead with my ring when he was very little.. I had just picked him up and my ring was too big and was upside down and i did not know.. I was so sad for a week till it went away :(

OMG that happened 2 me...sort of. My daughter was about 7 or 8 months and she was still sleeping in the same bed as me and when I got up one morning extremely eager to use the bathroom, I forgot to put up the bed rail and as I washed my hands, I looked in at her and she was at the edge of the bed so I rushed in as fast as I could, but it wasn't fast enough. She fell onto the floor and began crying. I quickly scooped her up and hugged her tightly saying, "Mommy's so sorry" and she immediately stopped crying and was ready to play, but my tears wouldn't stop. I felt like such a bad mother and wanted to comfort her all morning. I called my mom who calmed me and told me its the first of many accidents and assured me that I definitely was not a bad mother for it. But thats all I thought about the whole day.

My father-in-law accidentally cut off my sister-in-law's thumb. After I heard this.... I began to think as long as my child retains all her body parts I'm doing a pretty fine job. LoL

My husband actually did this. One day, when I first had my oldest daughter, I was so tired. My husband came in the room and took her from me so I could get some sleep. About a half hour later I woke up feeling wierd. I went into the livingroom to find my husband asleep on the couch holding only a blanket, But thinking he still had our daughter in his arms. I looked for her and found her in side the couch pillows. Thank God I woke up. But he didnt mean to. Funny thing is, to this day she likes to sit tucked between the couch cushions.

I'm the oldest of four girls and when i was young my mother would forget us at church. i can remember my sister's falling asleep under the benches and when church was over we would leave and get half way home and have to go back and get them.

This happened when my eldest boy was 10 months old. I returned home from night shift and took over the job of looking after my boy from my MIL as she need to go to work. I was tired so I put my boy on the bed and lie beside him. I dunno when I fell asleep. I was woke up by s high pitch scream and found my my boy on the floor..That was the most stupid thing I did. Luckily, there's no head injury. If not, I will never forgive myself~

I did nearly the same thing to my baby a long time ago. She was in her stroller and I tilted it backward (like a wheelchair) to rise above a curb. She slid out the back, landed on her head on the concrete. It took her about 8 minutes to get over it and I still remember the sound her head made when it hit the pavement. I took her to the doctor the very next day, and checked out just fine. I still vividly remember. That was 27 years ago. Children are so resilient, God bless them.

when i was two years old i escaped through a hole in the garden fence and went for a walk by my self to the beach which was only a few minutes walk from my parents house, i crossed the road and walked down the slope on to the prominade which i fell of on to a pile of stones where i was found by some fishermen who took me to the cafe at the end of our road as they thought that they might know who i was.

by this time my parents had realised that i was not at home they had thought i was with the other one and vice versa so went rushing out looking for me and went into the cafe to see if anyone had seen me and found me eating a lolly not realising how naughty i had been, needless to say my dad mended the fence as soon as posible!!!

My little man is now 5 and is happy. Lets hope my little girl does not get the same injuries.

oh my god I am so glad that I am not the only person in the world who has managed to cut their child with the lid of a custard tin, I was trying to feed dylan one day and he was thrashing his arms around and being all crazy when he swung his arm past the open custard tin that was in my hand and he sliced his arm, it bleed like crazy and he still has a small scar there (3 months later) yeah i copped the 3rd degree off my other half too, lol, but the other day he stuffed up Dylan was crawling around on the floor and daddy decided to give him a nudge on the bum and Dyl lost his balance and nose dived into the carpet and ended up with carpet burn right on the tip of his nose, see daddies stuff up too.

I have a good one, I was getting ready to nurse my son, who was like 2 weeks old at the time and i was using a regular pillow for support. I layed him on the pillow, in my lap, and tried 2 scoot back on the couch, well I am sure you can guess what happened!! There he went thank goodness my legs were stretched out because he rolled down them a ways and then onto the floor,he was more startled then anything, I bawled for like 30 minutes. My husband was going to say something but realized how devastated I was, so he sat and rubbed my back while I sobbed and nursed our son!!

I forgot to shut the toilet door when my son was 2 and loved water... I got up to see what he was doing and found him face down in the toilet bowl with his little legs dangling up.. We live in Australia so the water is in the bottom of the toilet (no fear of drowning) and then when he was 5 we were playing rumbles and i gave him a bleeding nose, he is now 14 and still tells everyone how his mum gave him a bleeding nose...

oh and thinking of worse i have been through with my daughter. i dont flinch when she falls until she cries... (saving from her over reacting when she stubbs a toe lol). any ways... we were at a friends house and my daughter was bouncing on the couch. she started to bounce towards the edge and i couldnt even get be carefull out before she bounced and flew head first into the coffee table! i sat and watched her falling towards the table thinking thats going to hurt and i see 4 other moms frantically trying to jump and save her. she had the worst mark from the middle of her forehead to her temple. i felt it for a fracture while comforting her and telling her that its ok and thats what happens when we bounce off the couch. she cried for about 5 mins then told the table that it was naughty lol. i felt bad but by me staying calm she got calm fast and was ok. shes 2 years old and is still just as fearless!

As I bent over to pick her up, it slid down my arm and BANG, right in the back of the head knocking her down. Poor thing, I think I was more hurt than her, but she was totally stunned and the look of wondermen on her face probably would have been funny had I not felt soooo bad for that happening,

well i can say we all have done things like that. heres my story with my daughter. my husband and i were in a hurry to get somewhere (i dont remember where). but i had put her in the car and then got in while hubby was putting her stroller in. then we left. well needless to say when i went to get her out of her car seat i was stopped short to my horror i didnt buckle my daughter in her seat. i felt horrible and thoughts of her being seriously injured if we got in a car accident. i still cant let myself get over that. but dont beat your self up... my nephew got dumped out of his carrier at 1 month old because his mom accidently stuck the seat on the base backwards and when she pulled it out she lost her grip and he fell out. he got a fracture in his skull and she wouldnt even put him in the car or take him out of the car for like 8 months.

dont feel bad your baby was ok accidents happen to everyone :)

I have to say the worst thing I did was when my daughter and I were playing on my bed, she made a bee line for the edge and I went to go rab her to stop her from going over. Well my depth perception was off and I ended up being that final push and the poor thing fell right off the bed, I don't know who was crying more!! I felt so bad!!

where do i start? i remeber the first time - my son now 5 was about 4 weeks old and i was walking up stairs, i tripped and tried to save him by grabbing him to stop him falling down the stairs. but instead i fell on top and my collar bone hit him in the eye. his eye was black and blue for weeks after and i felt so guilty i cried for 3 hours non stop! i felt like the worst mother in the world! 3 babies later and i still forget - only today i left my 2 yearold in the livingroom while i made lunch. i was talking away with my head in the oven and i heard the door open. i told him to stay down stairs and he said "yes good boy". i still had a few things to turn over and stir so i thought " quick turn these then i must shut the door", then i heard bang bang bang...he had fell down the whole flight of stairs and land between our shoe cupboard and the pushchair. he scraped his back and his head but otherwise he was fine - as soon as i got him out he was staright back up the stairs again!!!!!!! i could have killed myself for not leaving the dinner to shut the door straight away.



no doubt there will be many more stupid things you will do! i know i have! dont beat yourself up being a mam is hard work and you didnt delibreately set out to hurt her! make sure they are ok, and try to prevent it the next time - but at the end of the day accidents are just that accidents!!!

we all learn through mistakes. babies too. my girl is 13months old, she's already learnt if she headbutts stuff it hurts, it's almost funny, if she is doing something silly (like leaning over too far) we'll get her attention and tell her, but i think its important they explore, they can survive knocks and bruises. So she falls over and bangs her head and she gets this look on her face like 'i will *not* cry' - a bit like how an adult feels when they really hurt themselves but it was their own fault - bolshy like.



and if she's climbing and falls she's the same.



just doing my head in today, she's climbed the stairs 3 times before i can catch her. i can't climb stairs fast and she flies up them. we try to keep her just in one room, but by the time i've put her down and managed to straighten up to shut the door, she's out of it and on the stairs already. nightmare child. she's worked out how to get the stair gate off the hallway - sat there howling - all i can imagine was it scared her or she didn't want to be told off... it didn't hit her or anything. mand x

It's not the worst I've done, but the most recent of many small accidents (being incredibly clumsy!) was today at the church Bible study. I was putting the toys my year-old daughter had played with back in the cupboard and unknown to me she'd crawled forwards while I was picking them up. I started walking away from her, and my (thankfully soft) heel caught her in the face. Boy, did she yell! Thankfully, no harm was done, but she sobbed "mama" and looked very accusingly at me!

When my daughter was about 6months...i was about to take her a bath and I was holding her close to my chest and her stud earring got stuck on my necklace while I was going to put her in the tub....she was screaming but luckily i was able to take it off! I always make it will not happen again!

The place we rented when my daughter was born had the laundry in the bathroom. She was around 4 months old, I think, and I had just given her a bath. The dryer is directly opposite the vanity, so I wrapped her in a towel and layed her on the dryer and turned around to grab the lotion and powder. All of a sudden I heard a thud and there she was on the floor. It only took a second, my heart jumped to my throat; I snatched her up and both of us just sat there and cried. I was so afraid I had caused some sort of trauma to her but she turned out just fine. My husband still doesn't know about that.

when i went home for leave (i flew in from germany so i had a 18 hour flight and had been up for almost 48 hours total) I went to bed and chris (just turned 1) was laying with me asleep. I fell asleep and did not wake up for 12 hours. When i woke up chris was not beside me, I FREAKED!! i had no clue where he was. I went to find my aunt and ask here where chris was and saw that she and chris was playing together. She told me that he fell off the bed and was screaming his head off and i slept right through it. she got chris and rocked him and he fell back to sleep. the rest of that night she slept with chris and he was fine.



I have hit his little head so many times on things like the door or a wall or a corner. even steps when i almost fell down them.



then about a week ago chris was sitting in his soon to be siblings carseat and he stood up in it and started rocking back and forth. it fell and he hit his face on his riding toy and busted his lip pretty good. he was fine just cried and it took a while to stop bleeding.



he is now 17 months old and is healthy as anything!

Aww, everyone makes mistakes hun, dont beat yourself up, I popped my 6 month daughter on the sofa with her snuggle as she was sleepy and i nipped into the kitchen to fetch her a drink, i was gone only the breifest of seconds and heard a thump, she'd rolled over, i assume to grab the tv remote and tumbled off the sofa. Of course she screamed at first and her dad had to calm her as i was hysterical!! She had no bump and was giggling at her dad and brother 15 minutes later, me however didn't stop crying for almost 2 hours!!! I don't see a funny side though i really shouldn't have left her alone and never have done since but it was just one of those things ya don't think about x

On a hot day my baby boy was sleeping in his car seat and I set him on the dogs crate as always and unbuckled him because he was so warm, i then took my dog out to pee quick and when I came in he was face down on the floor, he had waken and wiggled out within minutes, i felt aweful! It was a 2 1/2 foot drop and he wasnt even crying, we took him to the hosp. anyway to make sure he was okay, boy did i feel aweful!!

I think this is an awesome post!! I have three girls and do you know how many times I have done something stupid? I cant even tell you. And it isnt like I have just done them once either. I am constantly rushing around the house and carrying one or the other and take a corner to sharp and bump their head. Or trying to tidy up and toss a toy to the box and hit one in the head. Or with my oldest daughter I had her all ready to go and the diaper bag and her in her carseat/ carrier and left the house and guess what !! I left her right in the middle of the kitchen floor all strapped in her seat!!! Not to mention I left her once in the car in her seat and went into the store to grab some formula! Fortunately we lived in a very small town then and it was quite awhile ago. She was pretty safe. Well as safe as can be. I didnt even notice I had left her in the car unitl a friend came up to me and asked where she was. She probably seen her sleeping in the backseat of my car and was just being polite!!! Can you imagine. My Dr even said it is perfectly normal especially with the first to do that sort of thing. But wow you cant imagine how bad I felt and still feel every time I do something stupid !! Dont be to hard on yourself. I would tell you it only gets better but they only get older and you just make bigger mistakes LOL !!!

ok this should be funny lmao!!! ok, when my daughter was about 11 months old she had alot of hair on her head lol so i called myself braiding it in little braids all over the head..so when i got to the second braid i stopped to pput her shirt on, while doing that when i pulled the shirt over her head the two braids broke off of her hair and she had two two tiny balled spots in her head where the braids were, and the braids were on the ground with the barret still attached to the end of the hair lolololo i felt so bad, she's 3 and i still have it to show her when she's old enough lol

My boy is an active little man, so I cut his nails when he is asleep. Last week I nipped his skin and OMG how scary, his eyes immediately opened, the vocals set in action, I picked him up and cuddled him, and then he switched off and carried on sleeping. So bizarre.

today my daughter had her frist a&e experience.

my dad was lookin after her whilst i napped (im pregnant again and exhausted). She pulled the hamsters water bottle off his cage and while dad was fixing it back on the hamster bit her other hand and wouldnt let go.



we took her to casualty coz it bled for 30mins, was gaping a bit and we werent sure if she'd need extra tetanus cover coz she hasn't finished the course of immunizations yet.



they didn't even clean it or dress it. they said it would risk re-opening it, and then they'd have to stop it bleeding again, it would distress her etc. they said since it bled so much it would probably have self cleaned, but if it looked infected go to gp's for antibiotics. they gave us some cream for infected wounds to help the healing process.

My first daughter, goodness, I was always hurting her. Poor kid. She has had her head rammed into more walls and corners. And she has rolled off beds and couches and climbed out of highchairs and face-planted on the floor. I was so clumsy with her it was horrible. The worst thing that happened to her, however, I did not do. It was all my husbands doing. He was playing with her in out bedroom, Tossing her up in the air, and tossed her head right up into the ceiling fan. Luckily there was no serious injury and I am so glad that I didn't see it happen. I probably would have had a heart attack!

Everyone has oops moments, I know!, First when my daughter was 4 years old she was in the kitchen and my husband was washing the spatula for dinner while I was at work he went to shake it dry and it broke in half and the part you cook with went flying directly at my daughters head, she ended up getting her just a little cut on her forehead. When my son was little we were going out ,he was in the infant car seat, I put him on the couch and went to grab his bottles. We heard bang, he flipped the seat over onto the floor luckily we had the handle up and he was strapped in. Nobody is perfect and no matter how careful you are accidents happen

i carried my 2 week old premature daughter downstairs in her moses basket and just as i got down the last step, the handle snapped and she rolled out, one side of her face was just a massive bruise, i spent hours in A & E, i was so ashamed of myself and it wasnt even my fault, it was the moses basket, i look back now and am just so glad that i had got down that last step, otherwise who knows what could have happened. If i ever decide to have any more children, i will NEVER use a moses basket again.x

All of my children have slept w me.(19,14,7,&2) Poor husband! It's awesome bonding time, feels good & easy. But..... take the time to Buy one of those lil' bed pod things. It's a Bassinet type of thing that fits in yr bed but It gives them their space and you'll feel it "IF" you do roll toward them. Or those AWESOME Bassinets that hook to side of bed. BETTER BE SAFE than SORRY~ NOT TO ROLL ON YR BABY. When my 14yr old was a week old. I was so tired and recovering still, w back ache, I leaned back w legs on couch. Set the baby betweenlegs on shines, laid back sideways (still sitting up) just to stretch my back, OMG I had nodded off woke up, in my sleep had stretched out and covered my legs, WOKE UP COULDNT FIND BABY, then relized he was under about four inches of comforter. It ws the most HORRIFYING TWO SECONDS uncovering Him to make sure he was BREATHING!!!!! Please be careful!!!!

My son just made four months and I'm cracking up reading these post! Especially my fellow mommies who have forgotten to strap the car seat in the car!! Twice now I've strapped my boy in car seat only to forget to strap the car seat to the car!! Though the worst thing was when I was trimming his nails when he was about 4 weeks, he jumped in his sleep and I got the tip of his finger!! Safety clippers my butt - we cried together that time. I've since found Red Cross clippers that can in no way fit an infant fingertip, just the nail!

I was asleep in bed, my daughter was about 2 months old she was asleep with myself and my fiance, because she was spoiled and refused to sleep in her bassinet. Well, neway I had her next to me and not in the middle cause I was afraid her daddy would roll over on her. I was a little sleep deprived neway because I constantly woke up every night to check on her in the bassinet the previous weeks to make sure she was still breathing!(yes i was very paranoid). Anyway she was asleep in bed with me and I wake up to this crying, very faint, and start freaking out screaming for my fiance to get up! i couldnt find my daughter!! I looked in her bassinet and everything ( I had no recollection of putting her in the bed with me!! i thought she was still in her bassinet!) I look down and there she is in the floor in between the bassinet and bed. I cried and cried all night just picturing her there! I must of had a dream and pushed her out of the bed!! I was so upset with myself and luckily for the bassinet being right next to the bed it broke her fall and she wasn't hurt at all nor did she have a bruise!

OMG, I got one of those calls, :"Im thought I'd swing by & Im right around the corner".

So I got up in a mad dash, tossing coats & shoe's in closets, Cleaning off table tops in one swoop. All along throwing toys into the toybox, with shots that would make MJ proud. Almost done w vacume in one hand & the LAST TOY in the other. Bending over flinging it behind me,toward toybox, as I turned the vacume on. ALL of a sudden I hear my one YR old SCREAMING!!! The action had caught her attention and she was looking as the toys being thrown (by then) in the toybox. Not only had I hit her w the very pointy plastic TinkerBell Fairies action figure. I hit her in the EYE !!!!! So for the next TWO WEEKS she had 50% of her eyeball BloodShot! Talking heart breaking!!

I clipped my daughter's finger when she was about 2 months old, she cried SO much, and it seemed like the bleeding would never stop (although it really wasn't that bad).  I just about had a breakdown because of it.  When she was about 5 months old, she rolled off the change table while I was putting her diaper into the diaper genie.  I caught her halfway to the floor, so no harm done, but she seemed to think it was funny, and tried to do it over and over again!  You can NEVER be too safe with a change table!

when both my boys were just born, i used to bite their nails off instead of clipping them (scared that i'll cut those cute little fingers) and then with my second baby, the one time, the nail was a little stuck, so i bit and tore at it, and ended up tearing it in to deep. worst part is, he didn't even cry, just gave me THAT hurt look that makes a mommy's heart shatter!

After my event, I thought I was the worse mother ever! My daughter was about 3 or 4 months. I went to the store and by the time I got out the sun had gone down and it was pretty chilly. So when I got to the car I wanted to get her inside quickly so that she wouldn't be in the cold. So I strapped her in and I put my purse in the car, and closed the door, and proceeded to unload the groceries, when I went to get in the car, I noticed the doors were locked. I almost had a heart attack. Fortunately her grandfather had the spare and was in the area and let me in. I just hugged her and kissed her that night when I got in the house. She was totally unaware and slept the entire time that she was in the car. It funny now (but not then) about two weeks later again I was unloading groceries out of the car and in the house. I put the baby in the house and my nephew came outside to help me unload the groceries, well he LOCKED the door behind him and the baby was in the house! Needless to say, I broke into my house that day! I felt really bad, but again she was totally unaware of the situation. These event have helped me to realize the importance of slowing down and really paying attention to what I am doing. I pray to God I don't have anymore incidents. :)

I have another story...but this one has to do with me and my mom. When I was little my mom would have her juices or pop on the side of the couch and fall asleep. (She's hypoglycemic so sugar knocks her out) I felt this was the best opportunity to get the good stuff that she wouldn't let me have. I was 5 at the time. Well this one time she had a wine cooler (mind you that was a rare occasion cause she doesn't drink much cause of her condition), so I drunk it all up. I woke my mom up and told her that juice was really good and did she have anymore. Needless to say, she called my doctor, poison control, the emergency room and held me crying while she was doing it. Now we all laugh at it and my mom never left anything on the side of the couch again.
