Thanks for all the helpful posts! My granddaughter is 20 months old and my daughter asked me this question. I feel that Keira is more ready to potty train than give up her binky, but please keep the posts coming so I can weigh all the pros and cons!

How old is your child? I chose to potty train first. My son was a little over 2 when i started potty training. Don't beat yourself up about the binky. Some kids need it longer than others. My son was 3yrs 7 months before he was ready to give it up, and he was fully potty trained. The way I felt about it, I did not want to make huge changes in his life before potty training. That can be enough for them, and sometimes they need that extra support that a binky gives.

Pacifier first then potty training. My daughter never used a pacifier (don't think they're necessary) and she potty trained fairly easy at 1.

IMO, it should be the binky. By a year old, most children should be able to sooth themselves. If yours is the exception, I would work on it before potty training.
Another tip in trying these things when there is little stress in the house, no new baby coming or a house move.
Most try to potty train between 2 and 3 years.
