my 9 month old is going through a BOX of baby cereal a day! He eats his fruit and vegetables, loves his apple sauce and bannanas but REFUSES to eat meat. My doctor told me that its ok to start him on meats now, but how in the world do I get him to eat it?? I use a blender and make sure its almost liquid so he wont choke but maybe its the taste or texture?? I need some advise on what eles to give my growing boy! ( I dont buy jars of food, everything is home made. )

I hope this helps you - My daughter *hated* meat, no matter how smooth I made it until one recipe: Cook 6 chicken legs, 1 sweet potato, 1 chopped onion and 1 apple in a covered dish in the oven for about an hour and a half at 350; put the whole thing in the fridge. the next day, carefully debone the chicken and remove the skin, and blend with the sweet potato, onion and apple (food processor, wand, blender, whatever). This freezes super well, and it's a great balanced meal. Hope it helps!!

Quoting Erin:

Mix the meat in with a fruit or veggie. This will let him get used to the taste and the texture without it being overpowering. I've done this with both of my boys and it worked like a charm for me.

I did this too, and my little boy loved it.  I made my own baby foods too, and I would put the meat in with some fruit or veggie that he liked, and he would eat it up.

i make all my own baby food as well, and my little man hardly eats any meats. the one thing he does love is ham and some chicken. i always always mix the meat in with something else. even a tablespoon of meat inwith his meal is better than nothing. Z loves sweet potatoes and ham. chicken with mashed potatoes and corn. however he does not do well with beef. his stomach does not agree with it. and hes over a year. your little man may just not be ready to eat meats. but start with a table spoon mixed into his favs and see how it goes, and slowy increase the ingredients. they say it takes at least 7 times to try a food before you know if you actually dislike it. so keep trying! hes still young, so he wont suffer from lack of meat yet!

try mixing the blended meats with some fruit. for my five year old that was the only way he would eat it. even now he doesnt like alot of meat so it may just be a taste issue. if that doesn't work then just find other foods high in protien so your baby is lacking. macaroni and cheese and beans and rice became favorites with protien in my house.

Blending is great. You may have to mix the meat with other foods he likes, until he gets used to the taste/texture. It could be both or either. Some kids may take a little longer to eat the meats it is not abnormal. Just keep offering. He will come around eventually. Your doing a great job. I would alternate bites or every two to three bites of what he likes and sneak a bite of meat in. But he really has to be hungry or they will stop eating all together. Best of luck, no one said it would be easy.

try blending it in with your fruit and veg if that doesnt work try meat alternatives like lentils beans chick peas legumes etc as they are high in protein and iron. some children just dont like meat. if u want to continue trying make sure you dont force it on your child every day as it may stop them eating the stuff they like just try it once every couple of days. eventually they may like it there taste buds change.

i have a six year old and when he was a baby my doctor told me that he didn't need the meat until he started eating table food! my doctor said that the meat in the jars are nasty and that he didn't need them when he was that young! if he won't eat meat I wouldn't worry about giving him meat then until he gets a little older...i didn't give my son meat until he was probably started table food maybe around 11 or 12 months....i can't remember....but i wouldn't worry about it....i hope this helps!!
