I am taking my son on his first plane ride in october so he will be almost 7 months, what do i pack in his diaper bag and how much due to all the rules for traveling by plane? And is there anything else I need to know about traveling with a baby on the plane?

if you're breastfeeding, nurse him during takeoff and landing that helps with the pressure in the ears. any other sucking will work too, like a pacifier or a bottle.
as far as i know you can bring food for the baby and drink and i've never been checked for the weight of the diaper bag... but this depends also on the airline guidelines. I usually tried to keep my daughter up until we're on the plane so she'd nap during the flight. worked for most flights. take some toys too. this age is a bit hard to entertain on the plane, but really depends on the kid. some kids will just love the whole experience and look around and discover. for us it's now easier since watching TV became interesting to our daughter. if you are taking a stroller to the airport don't check it with the luggage usually they let you keep it until boarding and then they put it by hand in the plane. whereas when it's transported with the luggage the handling is rough and broken strollers are the result. i would call up the airline before and ask if they have bassinets for the babies and try to reserve it ahead. we did not always do it and sometimes there are too many babies on board and whoever comes first gets the bassinets.

My recommendation is to go to www.tsa.gov. That website has all you'll need to know about what you can and can't pack in the diaper bag. For the trip, I would recommend a pacifier or something else he can suck on for takeoff and landings. It will help his ears. The best thing that could happen is that your son will nap during the flight, but in case he doesn't, try to purchase some new, quiet toys or books for the flight. Making sure they're new to him will keep him interested longer. Also, just bring out one toy at a time. Hope this has helped.
