I will have to have my second baby by c-section and I would like to breastfeed (could not do it on my first baby....too painful!) Does anyone know of a safe painkiller to take while breastfeeding?
Thanks!

Where is the pain? In the abdomen from the C-Section? Or the breast itself, from the feeding? Most breast-feeding pain at the nipple is caused by improper "latch-on" by the baby. Have the baby put the entire nipple (including the areole, the colored part around the nipple) into their mouth. When they've properly latched on, there might be some minimal pain, or none. Ask the hospital to have their breastfeeding specialist help you with the first few feedings. Mine was wonderful, and her expertise made the rest of my daughter's breastfeeding experiences pain-free!

If the pain is related to your C-Section, you'd do best asking your doctor for which painkillers are safe for your infant, and do not "leach" into your breastmilk. Good luck!
