What was the best shower gift you got, didn't get, or wish you'd gotten?
Things are so different from when my children were born...what advise can you give an oldtimer regarding what to give/do for/not do for new mothers????
Thank you!!!!

As my baby shower was close to when my baby was due the best gift i got was about 4 shopping bags full of house hold items eg- dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, washing powder, tin soups and fruits, packet noodles, jars of sauces for paster and stirfrys, rice , packets of chips, toothpaste etc. I loved the thought that person put into the gift and found all the stuff was so great when the baby was born as i didn't have to run out to get stuff.

We got a lot of gift cards because we had to fly back with everything. Mostly for Wal*Mart, which was great because any time I was short on cash, I always knew I would have enough for diapers, wipes etc.

Also do you know if the mom is planning on breastfeeding? One of the best gifts I got was a Lanisoh Manual Breast Pump.

Diapers, wipes, maybe a little basket with bath stuff (lotion, shampoo, baby cloths etc.) are all great gifts too!

Also, it doesn't hurt to remember mom (or mom-to-be). Maybe a pair of earings or a nice top or something. I always make sure I get mom a little something, just so she knows that we still remember her. ;P

I absolutely loved some baskets I got for my baby's things. I use one big one for all her blankets, another for her little toys and another for diapers.

A great item I wish I would have gotten was swaddle blankets. I only had one which was given to me by the hospital staff. I useed it every day and after my baby was 3 months old, my grandmother made me a swaddle blanket...so I have 2 now. They are the BEST!. The normal receiving blankets just aren't long enough so my daughter wiggled out of them easily...there's no getting out of the swaddle made with a swaddle blanket.

Another thing I couldn't have lived withoutis the bouncy seat...that thing was a life saver and it is portable enough that I could take it anywhere...I took it to a Chuck E Cheese for a birthday party and my baby was content and I could eat =]

Now at 6 months, my daughter loves her ExerSaucer. She plays in it every morning while I get ready and get her stuff ready for the sitter.

OOOhh....Diapers. Lots of them. I went a few months without having to buy diapers from all the ones I got for my daughter's baby shower. It was great.

I got tons of monogrammed bibs and burb clothes and onsies with my baby's name and initials on them. I like this because it was not practical, therefore something I would not have bought for myself. I also appreciated when a group of people pitched in to get a big ticket item like the car seat or pack and play. Diapers (in all sizes) were always appreciated because the first few weeks after the baby is born, leaving the house to pick up a pack of diapers is pretty difficult! It was good to have a big supply on hand.
