I have to same problem with my 9 month old....I give her a probitic every morning in her cereal and that has helped with the stools and then I but Berts Bee diaper ointment in her butt. The cream is pricey but it really works. The probitic can be opened and put in the cereal---The doctor said that it would be okay for us!!!

Hi Katie. My daughter also suffered a lot from diaper rash and here's what I did. First of all I went to the pediatrician and he told me to use dactarin twice a day but then I decided to take it in my hands since it wasn't working. I started by changing the baby wipes that I was using, changed to Nivea Soft & Care they are simply great. I change her diaper every 3 hrs during the day and last thing before she gets sleepy at night. Plus I put quite a good amount of Sudocrem after cleaning with the wipes. Hope that helps.

I make some camomile tea, wait until it is room temperature I soak a cotton ball in the tea, place diaper or cloth underneath baby and then squeeze the tea from the cotton ball over rash area. I allow that baby to stay out of the diaper for a while. Once dry, I use balmex. This works amazingly well! Good Luck!

once my daughter had a bad stomach flu, and she got a horrible rash from all the diahrrea. Her pediatrician recommended Aquaphor. You can buy it over the counter, and it cleared her rash up in less than 2 days. That's the only kind of ointment I use now.

Hi. Unfortunately my son has had the same problem, especially with the heat. I make sure I always check his diaper, change even all the just peepee diapers, and now I apply A&D ointment first, then I apply Desitin over it. It has seemed to work for us.

I agree, was him with water after each diaper and then if he's young enough to not move around much, let him air dry while playing on a towel. My daughter had a few bad diaper rashes and this worked miracles. I think sometimes the creams just keep the rash moist, while cleaning with water and airdrying helps the rash dry up and heal. Best of luck!

I was going to suggest this as well. Both of my kids have really yeasty urine and they get rashes all the time. My doctor's told me to use yeast infection cream and it clears it up right away. I have the prescription strength but if you can use the otc kind i would suggest doing that as the prescription is VERY expensive (if you don't get a coupon and your insurance doesn't cover it you are looking at about $1000.)

Good Luck, I hope it gets better.

Aimee

Quoting Amy:

It may be a Yeast Infection, the symptoms are similar to a Diaper Rash, try an over-the-counter cream for your run of the mill yeast infection. My daughter has a lactose intolerance that we didn't know about that was causing her butt to turn bright red and have little bumps, the YI cream cleared it right up. BTW: yes boys get yeast infection too ;-D

Use Balmex and then top with Johnson's medicated baby powder. Worked every time on my daughter's very sensitive skin.

Change regularly and try Paw Paw ointment...this stuff is great for everything from burns, nappy rash, dry skin, dermatitis and a great lip balm. Best thing is it has no chemicals in it! Totally made from paw paws. I used it on my son and all my friends swear by it too.

You dont say how old your son is...might be worth checking out with a doc to work out what your bub is eating to cause loose acidic stools...good luck!

I've tried several creams, but what worked the best was "Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash". Although you do not have to have a prescription to buy it, you usually have to go to the pharmacy counter and ask for it.

Hi this might sound crazy but wisk an egg white up till its bubbly and plaster it on his sore bits and let him air dry my mother in law told us to do this and it worked a treat summer's rash was so bad at one point it broke the skin hope this helps

Mix one part MaaloX, one part Aquaphoror or Petroleum Jelly. Mix until completely mixed into a thick paste. If there are open sores on your babies bottom you can some Neosporin with Pain reliever. It's an antibiotic. The Maalox is an antacid and so it reduces the stinging created by the acidic factor in your child's urine and poop,

The Aquaphoror or Petroleum Jelly acts as a barrier to help keep the moisture away from your baby's skin, Good Luck!

This is old school, but my grandmother would scorch flour. Put flour in a dry frying pan, put over low heat, stir until golden brown. Remove all lumps, and cool completely. Use as baby powder. This worked when nothing else would.

My daughter was really bad about rashes since day one. She was a preemie and the NICU staff used a product called Happy Hiney that worked MIRACLES! It was amazing. Within 20 minutes her rash was gone. We never could find any of that stuff once we got her home, so I asked her doctor and she prescribed her Miracle Butt Paste. The pharmacist will have to make it up for you because it is a mixture of several different things. It's been a life saver. Abby had gotten so bad that we had to let her run around naked to just "dry out" and then her little skin would crack and bleed. It was heartbreaking. I tried all the other stuff, desitin made it worse, and the Nystatin would set her on fire. She would scream if we put it on her...we did the washing her off with soap and water and it didn't help, warm water didn't help..NOTHING helped. The doctor said that some kids just have highly sensitive skin, especially there. So my advice, if it gets really bad, ask your doctor about the Miracle Butt Paste. I swear by it!

My daughter got really bad diaper rash on time where she was blistered and bleedng (just came out of no where) and my boss (a pharmacist and father of 7) told me to use Lotramin (an athletes foot / antifungal cream) and then a zinc oxide based cream (ex: Desitin) on top of it. I did it after her bath and by the time I changed her in the middle of the night, it was 1/2 gone. It was completely cleared up in 2 days and like I said, it was bad. Blistered and bleeding before I tried this.

Ok....what I used was a old fashioned remedy. Not too sure what you call it in USA, but I used cod liver oil....like vegi oil. It provides a water proof barrier. i would also use that to clean and wipe the poo's away. My boys had it terribly that their bottoms would bleed and this work wonders. Cheap too :) I tried all the medicated things you could buy and they did not work.

Good luck

My cousin swears by this and now so do I. I found it at Walgreens...it's called triple paste...the container says works to relieve raw, irritated skin...lasting barrier prevents recurrence. I used this on both my babies and it works really well. If you can't find it there got to www.sumlab.com. It was a little expensive but soooo worth it and it lasts a long time. I got the 1 lb jar almost 2 years ago and I have more than half a jar still. Gabe did the same as your son and I would give him a warm bath and dry him really well and put this cream on and by the next or 2nd diaper change he was clearing up. it just depends how bad he started off. I hope it works well for you too!

What I use to help with diaper rashes is A&D with Zinc Oxide. Zinc Oxide clears up rashes ASAP. It works wonders. I wash my son's bottom in warm water, then pat dry and then apply the zinc oxide cream.

Well... I used Aquaphor on my little one and combined with a few more changes when I knew she was wet we haven't had a case of diaper rash since!! If I think she has a wet one while she is sleeping I will change her then, she tends to sleep a but longer that way.

Hello..

I think the best thing that works is airing his bum.. if he pees he pees.. and air needs to get at it just like if you had a rash... and for the times he has to be in his diaper puts lots and lots of zincofax or penaten cream ! They work amazing !! Th e more the better.. it gives a barer from his bum to the diaper! Hope I helped !

Make a mixture of water and baking soda (one to one) in a squirt bottle, after each change spray him down and wipe off with it. But also when bathing, use baking soda in the water. It is a natural skin softner, it helps with exzema as well. (good cleaner for the tub as well....and toilet....). I am all for the natural ways, old ways, since I have been using the baking soda, my kids exzema has not inflamed, my daughter hasn't had any 'girl issues', etc! I use it in my tub when I itch alot, as well as when I am going to shave.

Good luck!

My sons go through this too. I spoke with a pharmacist, who told me to use both A & H ointment and Desitin. I put the A & H on first, then Desitin. This worked in a few days. After that, I use A & H preventively, because my little one also goes in his sleep, and the A & H protects his skin so no poo/pee touches it directly. I hope this helps you!

Tripple Paste (best diaper cream ever) works the first time you use it. I've found it at Walmart, Target and Babies R Us. best $8 ever spent.

my son had a bit of mild nappy rash .. we always have put sudocrem on after every change but it didn't always help.

so we've taken to let him have a kick around about once a day with out a nappy on .. to get air to his bum .. and drying him with a terry nappy to get rid of the baby wipe residue before we put sudocrem then a nappy on.

Try using your plain old vitamin A&D ointment. I use that on my son and it works wonders. He got diaper rash a few times and I tried everything. I started using the vitamin A&D ointment and it cleared up in less then a day. When you give him a bath dry him really well and put a little bit on his butt and around his genital area, it works as a shield and basically prevents anymore diaper rash. I hope this helps you and helps your little guy feel much better.

A and D ointment always worked for my kids... Also, instead of using baby wipes when it got really bad, I used a regular warm washcloth instead. That seemed to be more soothing than cold wipes on their poor little bums.

Hi-

Triple Paste worked the best for me. One time when the diaper rash was really awful the pediatrician had me buy Lotrimin (yes, the athletes foot cream). It was amazing how well it worked but for your normal diaper rash nothing beats Triple Paste.
