Whats the best way to deal with teething infants?

have you tried the crystal necklaces they are relatively new, wish they were around when my children were young, and they are for teething, eczema, dribbling, runny noses-absolutely everything. i think you can buy them at the chemist-i work at a daycare, and believe me, they work! great invention!
back in the day, Maori women wore pounamu around their neck and when baby was teething they would suck on it, as it has healing properties....

teething tablets are mainly for the discomfort that comes along with teething. the drooling is just an inevitable symptom that just comes with the territory. for my drooly babies i just made sure i kept a bib on them to protect their clothing. they wont lose it, and the can chew on it ( the cloth ones, not the ones with the plastic lining in the back). just make sure to change them often or they will develop a little rash on their chin and neck.

my son drooled constantly from about 3 months (he got his first teeth at 8 months) until abuot 20 months. I don't think drooling is a problem although you go thru heaps of bibs.

With my 5 children I would dampen a washcloth and then put it in a plastic bag and then into the freezer. It helped with the inflammation and helped with the drooling (the washcloth absorbed it). I tried the Orajel and Anbesol and didn't like it. Our Pediatrician said that it wasn't a good idea because it can numb their natural gag reflex until it wears off. The teeth will come through, but if you feel that it's taking an excessive amount of time, take them to your Pediatrician or a Pediatric Dentist. Some come through quickly and others take their time. The drooling you just have to deal with, unfortunately. I went through bibs like tissues at times.

Amber necklaces can help. An allspice necklace works better, but we had to switch to amber because my daughter kept busting hers. I'm not sure how the amber works, but the tannins in the allspice are absorbed through the skin and reduce the swelling that is causing the pain.

Soak whole allspice overnight or boil it 5 minutes to soften it. String it on beading thread and add a clasp or tie it. The "beads" will be much stronger if you string through the dimple on one end. You want it loose enough to not choke, but tight enough to not catch on anything. Leave it on all the time or it won't work nearly as well. If your baby doesn't like a necklace, it can also be wrapped around an arm or leg. The important thing is skin contact. You also shouldn't let your baby chew it. I don't think it will hurt them, but it will break and you'll have to make a new one.

Kids drool when teething so there is no put with medicines unless they are in discomfort. I don't think my kids first tooth didn't come out til 10mths. People say the longer the teeth are in the less likelihood of tooth decay. Don't stress just go with it, this is coming from a mum with a puker of a child so a bit of dribble is nothing to me lol

I have 2 boys and I bought them this net looking thing called a nuby.I would put frozen fruit into it as the coldness from it would bring down the swelling in the gums. Children drooling is not a big deal and can easily be wiped off their face they really liked the nuby tho and u can also use the nuby for younger babies to intorduce new fresh foods without the worry of them choking on it. It was the best thin I have ever bought for my kids. And if the pain becomes too much infants tylenol or advil does work wonders too. My oldest is now 5 and my youngest is 2. And as for his teeth breaking thru, they will come when they're ready. If u still have concerns about the teeth coming in you can take your child to see a dentist who works specificly with small children and have them take a look and let u know what the deal is. And taking them in young could work on breaking that first time fear of the dentist. Good luck on your journy.

I don't consider it a problem that the teeth haven't come in yet. Each of us develops at our own pace and should NOT be compared to others.

Drooling is a natural part of the teething process and all you can do is accept it. IT WILL NOT GO ON FOREVER. Use bibs for the baby and cloth diapers (if you can find them) across your own shoulders to keep the drool off of your clothes.

I do not know what you may be using for teething pain, but I used Oil of clove bud, which can be purchased at your health food stores. Wet a q tip and apply it directly to the gums. It will ease the pain and as it is a natural oil, it will not introduce any drugs or chemical additives to your baby's system.

I never found anything to help with the drooling. It was normal. The pain however? I got liquid anbesol, and rubbed a tiny bit over the area where the teeth were cutting. Worked far better than the orajel. Especially as the pain often caused my son to throw up all over me.

My 8 month old is goin through the same thing. The teething tablets and tylenol helped, but what worked wonders was stimulating their gums, or basically brushing their gums. It is supposed to help w/the pain as well as b a good habit to start them on so when its time 2 start brushing teeth they are already in the habit. They have a few kinds that I've seen, and tries, but the baby gum brush that came w/infant toothpaste seemed to be their fav. Its just a little fingertip brush that has small soft bristles. it helped my 2 year old wonders when he was teething, and my 8 month old loves it! They are pretty easy to find. I know walmart has the one w/the toothpaste. And its safe for 3 months plus. They also had 1 by safety first that a few of my friends tried and swore by. Said teething was a breeze when they used it. Hopefully it helps.

my 8 month old is doing the same thing. He is getting him bottom teeth, they seem to bother him at night so I give him Hyland teething tablets. He also enjoys a teething paci called a raspberry. (he doesn't take a paci other than this one that he can chew on) You also might want to try frozen eggo waffles, mine will eat those when he goes through his "I don't want to eat because my teeth hurt" moods.

Try some pain relief like Panadol or Nurofen for babies also may need to see doctor/health nurse for suggestion... I found that the pain relief with the teething gel and face washers helped my children if you have ever had pain in your teeth what do you do for yourself? Go with your gut as this will help.

He can take tylenol... check with his pediatrician on how much. My 4 month old nieces pediatrician suggested 1 ml. of infant tylenol. It seems to help her.

We bought an Amber Teething necklace for our youngest and they really do help with drooling and pain. I figured it was worth a shot since I was uncomfortable dosing him with infants ibuprofen day and night! After we put it on him he finally started sleeping through the night without all the crying!

my eldest was non stop drooling from about 6months n only stopped once he had almost all of his teeth in just befor he was 16 months its just one of those things then my 2nd didnt at all n my youngest for maybe 2-3months on n off so just hav alot of bibs on hand the ones with the plastic backings r best so ur not constantly changing their shirts... oh the joys haha good luck :)

my 18 month old now... has about 9 or 10 teeth. he was very sick when he was 9 months old,and sure enough 4 teeth came out. his granny bought him the amber bead necklace,and we have no troubles..it does work for me.

The amber Naomi is talking about it baltic amber. When worn against the skin it releases natural anti-inflammatory oils that are absorbed by the skin. This reduces the swelling and pain in the body. There are many people who use it for all sorts of pain problems like arthritis. I hadn't heard of them when my daughter was teething but plan on using it when my son starts teething. I have many friends who swear by them.

I know that this sounds kinda crazy, but this hint was given to me when my oldest was an infant and I used it with all three of my sons and am now using it with my grandsons. Buy a plain bagel, the old-fashioned regular old bagel and cut it into 4 half circles, by cutting in the traditional "sandwich" cut and then cutting each side in half. Lay all four pieces cut side up on the counter and let them go hard and stale. After that they will keep almost indefinately in a zip lock bag. Use in place of the nasty, gummy teething biscuits or the yucky, crumbling zwieback toast. The semi-circle shape fits nicely into baby's grasp making it less likely to be dropped and the bagel can be gummed for a very long time without making any mess.

At that age you can probably buy a slim jim and freeze it and then when your baby eats it on the inside stuff comes out but its fun for them to chew on. Just make sure it is frozen before you give it to your baby. As for safety just remember to keep an eye on your baby. I used this for my baby because he was allergic to the baby oralgel and he didnt like the teething toys either. Best of luck!

Cold carrots and apple were really good for my son. Also I gave him natural liquorice. I got it in a health food shop here it looks like pieces of tree bark and not the most obvious thing to let a baby put in his mouth but it was brilliant.

My son's teething was a roller coaster!! He really liked the teething tablets (I rubbed it on his gums until it dissolved), frozen waffles, frozen washclothes, and those teething toys that vibrated (ours looked like a bunch of grapes). If it got really bad, a little ibruprohen (as prescribed by his doctor) helped at night.

Hi, my son is just about 11mths old, he hasnt cut any teeth yet however we can clearly see that he has 6 ready to come through (2 bottom, 4 top). They have been causing a bit of grief for him, he has been a little off his food, prefering cold stuff which is fine. I have started using the amber beads as they were recommended to me to assist with drooling & pain relief but honestly cant really see any difference.

I have now tried Weleda teething powder and its great, better than anything else I have tried so far (bonjela, pamol, teething rings etc etc).

As for the drooling, I dont think there is anything can do for it apart from bibs bibs and more bibs,

I have given my son a wet flannel as he seems to like nawing on that too. (I read that as a tip somewhere).

There has been some great advice to your question which i might even take on board some of them & try myself for my son. Thanks.

I haven't tried it but have seen a lot of posts on another site saying amber (as in the stone) helps. They have little necklaces, bracelets and anklets designed for babies to wear against thier skin. Its supposed to give off some substance that helps. Doesn't seem very scientific but a lot of people have said it has helped their bub. I'm in Australia so not sure where you would go to find it over there. It is natural and means your not giving your child lots of drugs to solve the problem so even if it doesn't work you haven't caused any harm in trying it. If my little man has issues I think I'd give it a go. So far we have only had to give infant paracetomol a couple of times. He just wears a bib to catch the drool!

My son liked frozen waffles, straight out of the freezer. They are cold, ":catch" the drool and are great practice for chewing food. Just make sure you are near-by and watching, that young the can choke on the waffle when it gets soft. Waffles were a staple in our freezer for a year and now he like them "cooked"

i work at a daycare and what we do is we get a small baby rag ball it up wet it not till its dripping and put it in the freezer the babies love it it helps with there pain n the rag absorbs the drool

my 5 month old is drooling like crazy from teething too. i give him this mesh bag/pacifier looking thing that you can put food into. its made by munchkin and he loves it. i put cold apple slices in it or frozen pieces of melon and he goes to town on it. he gets to gnaw on something to soothe his gums and get a snack all at the same time.

The first teeth are some of the worst, in my experience, except for the molars. But late teethers often get a whole bunch in one week, so hopefully that happens with your son so you can get this teething business over with. According to the babies I know, your son is a bit later than normal, but I know a kid who didn't even have a tooth by his first birthday, and another one who is almost 2 but she only has 7 teeth so far. There's a huge range of normal.

Yes he can. There is infant tylenol and advil. You would just need your pediatrician to give you the dose size according to your childs weight. If he's in pain why let the baby suffer? Unless of course you're against giving it to him.

Drooling comes with teething for some babies and it does take time for them to break the skin, it doesn't happen overnight. Our son really liked frozen fruit when he was teething. It was cold, it taste good and it help bring comfort. Medicine is not going to help his teeth come in but help aid in the pain he may be having. Hang in there they will come in soon enough.

yeah, i've tried teething tablets, i've tried the wet wash cloth in the freezer, ive tried the baby oral gel but none of that has worked hes still in pain. his two top teeth are trying to come thriugh but they wont come in.
