Mustela makes a baby shampoo that is gentle.  You can search for it on drugstore.com or they may have it at babies R US.  I used it in combination with Burts Bees Apricot oil and gently combed it out of my daughter's hair.  It worked great.

I always put baby oil on and leave it over night, the next morning, i used a baby brush or extra tooth brush and gently rub it off. Usually comes right off and that last me a few weeks. I find its a seasonal thing.

I used Head and Shoulders on my kids, and it worked great!! Then after their bath, I rubbed Vitamin "E" oil on her head. It's a natural moisturizer, so that's better than anything I found before. Good luck

olive oil is the most natural lubricant on the market ...it is not man made ,in the fact it grows ona tree and is pressed ..now you can try all the chemicals you want or that your doctor suggests ,but just a couple of notes if I may ..1) olive oil is cheap 2) its not harsh nor does it come with adviseries to wash hands after use or wear gloves ,or even apply lightly . olive oil if you apply it to the hair massage gently (babys head here not yours) and then leave it on ,yes the hair will look greasy but thats ok ,our bodys need to be kept lubricated ,and a baby for sure .when you wash a babys head ask yourself was it really dirty ...were they out playing in the sand box ? so dont be washing the hair every day ,its not cleaning the hair its drying the hair and scalp out ...now if they have the craddle cap yes wash the hair each morning ,gently this allows the removal of any loosened up cap ,but dont force it ,then dry the head when you dry the body and reapply the olive oil and feel free to massage it all over the little one and reapply again at the end of the day .Now if you dont think olive oil is what I say then plzz go google olive oil and read all you can about the natural gift from God or for those who dont believe in god then from mother nature

My daughter had a little cradle cap and I got rid of it fairly quickly just by washing with Johnsons baby shampoo and then using a flannel to gently massage the cradle cap area. It took maybe a week for it all to go but the most important thing to stop it is rinsing. I always used a seperate jug of fresh water to rinse off her hair after washing it (and still do) as any residue makes the scalp dry and itchy.

Use something like sweet almond oil, or even olive oil works i think. leave it on after the bath and then wash it off the next day. Baby's hair will look greasy, but it works

Replying to Crystle Danz. Sorbolene cream is just a natural glycerine moisturising cream. I use Johnson's baby sorbolene cream. it is 10% glycerine and is frangance free, and is clinically proven to be very mild. You can get it at most supermarkets or big shopping outlets like Big W.

Of course it doesn't show any signs of "hurting" him, and you won't see any effects of the chemicals right off the bat (maybe not at all), but why would you want to take a chance on the chemicals soaking into the skin of your beautiful little baby? Especially when a healthier option takes just as long?! No argument, yes everyone does have their own beliefs, but beliefs don't play a part in the evidence that harsh chemicals aren't good for us, including and most importantly babies. No harsh feelings, just a strong opinion on a healthier option after doing a lot of research for my own little guy on what works and what doesn't.

I think you saying that my son may have harmful effects to him is absolutely horrid.  You have no right to say such thngs.. Look all I had was my opinion I did not say anything about how you want to take care of your children.  DO not say no harsh feelings when what you said was indeed harsh. I will not respond any further but needed to let you know that of course we all raise our children in our own way.  Give an opinion but please leave me and my son out of it.

Hey. i got rid of Tanner's cradle cap in two days. After his bath the 1st night i rubbed a load of sorbalene cream into his hair/scalp and left it. Then after his next bath the following night i repeated it but after i rubbed it in i took his fine tooth comb and sort of scraped (not hard) it off till it was sticky in his hair then i used his towel to rub his hair and it hasn't been back since and that was a good 3 months ago! Hope it work for you.

Hi! I was just wondering what sorbalene cream is and where you can get it?

What is the treatment for cradle cap?

Treatment of cradle cap is with mild baby . The scalp should be washed regularly and this along with soft brushing should help to remove the scales. Some people advocate the use of a baby oil or mineral oil (but not olive oil as this encourages proliferation of malassezia). Small amounts rubbed on the affected areas may help to soften the scales, which can then be more easily removed.

If the cradle cap doesn't improve with frequent washing or if the rash spreads to other areas, your doctor may prescribe a medicated shampoo containing for any inflamed or reddened areas.

I use Dove Baby wash for Bryant's hair...Recommend by pediatricians more than any other baby wash.
- Mildness assured 100% Soap Free
- Hypoallergenic
- Tear Free, gentle to baby's eyes
- Contains 1/4 moisturizing cream, protects against cradle cap & dryness

After his bath I use aveeno baby soothing relief moisture cream which helps with eczema (cradle cap is a form of eczema) so far it's working!

I can't believe I'm hearing the doc's tell these ladies to use selsom blue on a baby!!!! It's full of harsh chemicals intended for adults for a reason, a baby's skin is so fresh and fine, not to mention still thin, that is soaks up and absorbes everything you put on it.... not like ours that is so used to harsh things and has gotten tough over time.... Read the labels of the items you choose for him and then if it seems like a huge word or a chemical...google it to see what it is and the effects it has.

Wow, I guess everyone has their own beliefs.  My little guy is fine and it wasn't like I used it every day or every night, we did this maybe a few times and it went away and never came back.  He never was hurt by this don't act so shocked.  Like I said it goes away and is't a huge deal.

There are some effective and safe products that I can show you how to get wholesale, directly from the manufacturer and they give a 60 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied.  Maybe we can talk after I sleep, not sure where you are but it's past midnight for me here in North Carolina.  Jane Patterson, MomCEO, www.BuildWithYou.WiseHomeBiz.com is one way to contact me :)

Our pediatrician told us to gently brush away the flaking and gently massage the scalp to assist it with this "natural" shedding process. Although not attractive it is obviously something many many mom's go through. I too would stay away from any kind of adult shampoo as the jury is still out if some of the contents are okay for us adults to be using. Good Luck.

Make sure your getting all the soap and residue off her scalp during the rinse, and massage the scalp as much as possible with out irritating the skin and a fine tooth comb to get as much as possible off the scalp.

please don't use baby oil, or anything else harsh.....it has chemicals and patrolium in it that seeps in the baby's skin, I literally just went through this with my son. He had it for a month!! I would put olive oil on his head, and then leave it on while i got his bath ready, then about ten minutes later would lightly brush out the flakes just before his bath. In the bath i scrubbed lightly in circlular motion with a soft full bristled baby brush. Use a natural baby shampoo, you can get it at any health food store, then after the bath pat dry his head then lather with baby lotion. Bath everyday and do the same as above but don't keep him in the bath for more then ten minutes or his skin will dry out from too long in the water..... hope this helps, it takes persistence and time. I did notice at the health food store once my son was over it, that they had a tablet to give the baby for cradle cap from the brand highlands.

craddle cap doesn't go away that quickly simply because it's the excess oil that your baby's body is trying to get rid of. The oil you put on the scalp will just help it not to dry out. I personnally always used olive oil to be very careful what goes on her skin (it's the body's largest organ and it absorbs everything that's put on it and goes into blood stream) one time i had saturated her scalp with the oil to soften the cradle cap and by the time she was done feeding and asleep in my arms i softly removed the 'excess oil' with my fingers by scratching gently.

Baby oil GENTLY massaged by a clean soft toothbrush will soften and flake off the cradle cap. Also, are you rinsing the oil off????

It could take a few weeks for it to go away I found that if you wash the babys hair everday with baby shampoo and then brush softly keep putting the baby oil just make sure not to use to much and not in every bath. Hope this helps
