If you can try water first. Babies who are not weaned from bm or formula don't need any other form of liquid. They get enough from BM or formula. So if you're practicing with a sippy cup use water. Juice is full of sugar and no fibers. Avoid it if you can. If your child takes to just water, celebrate!!!
I only added 1/5 juice to my children's sippy cups after they were weaned and after 6 months of trying to get them to drink water. Which they completely refused until I added an ounce or two of juice to their 8-10 ounce sippy cup. If you can avoid it, do so.
I've heard some suggestions on here to use filtered water instead of tap for taste.

I only started my daughter when she was about 18 months. Someone else had given it to her as a treat, so she started asking. It's still generally a "special" thing. There isn't much nutritional value in it, and it just means the child is getting extra sugar. So I really see no need to start it at all. Extra sugar isn't really necessary. It just causes diabetes, obesity, and tooth rot. Water is great and is all the body really needs. Milk has some nutritional value. And once they are of age, beer does too ;-)

I started my son on watered down juices at around 1 years old. I never gave him non watered juice. He's almost 3 now. And till this day, his juice is partly watered down. I'll make a pitcher just for him that is watered down so he's not getting all that sugar.

someone also suggested Flavored water might be worth a shot.

I started both my boys at around 8 months. It was only 3-4 ounces watered down in a sippy cup.

This thread might help you out. Juice, even watered down juice is not good for kid's teeth. If they wont drink water you can try 1:10 of juice to water.
