I am 16 weeks and wondering if that's to soon to get an accurate reading on the gender by 3d ultrasound.

Here is a great website that shows the differences early on. Boys and girls look practically the same til nearly 14 weeks. So unless you have a great Sonographer it can be very difficult to tell the difference. I found out at 18 weeks for my frist daughter and 20 weeks for my second. By 20 weeks the external genitalia are fully formed. But even then most Doctors or techs will only say about 80% certainty. Best of luck to you.

What does your dr say? I've heard mixed stuff about 3D ultrasounds and decided not to bother (off course this was three years ago and the technology may have more of a track record now). If you're going to spend the money, I'd say wait until 20 weeks so you can a) get a more accurate reading and b) get better pictures. Good luck either way.

i went in at 14 weeks and was told a boy. come to find out, the 3 ultrasounds i've had since have all confirmed it's really a girl. normally you wait until around 18-22 weeks, but i know friends who've found out earlier. just know that the earlier it is, the higher a chance of them getting it wrong.

i would wait til 20 weeks honestly. At 12 weeks with my second the dr said he was 60% sure it was a girl and he would keep looking at every apt(i got us every apt) and we knew for sure at 24wks. Just because there is a lil bit of time for the boys junk to grow more. If its done too soon, they could tell u a girl n it being a boy but missed it cuz his stuff wasnt hung enough yet.

16 weeks is fine to tell the gender of your baby. You can usually tell around 12 weeks! Good luck!

Doctor told me my second child was a boy at 18 weeks and out came a little girl but on my fourth I had the 3d scan at 22 weeks and doc got it correct a little boy too early and there is more room for error :)

My Doctor gave us an 80% idea that we were having a boy at 12 weeks & confirmed it at our 16 week scan. We received our bundle of joy 12 days ago. We are in South Africa so not sure how the scans work in other countries. Good Luck finding out.

Generally docs say to do the ultrasound between 20-22 weeks to get the most accurate reading. When I was pregnant with my first it was 18-22 weeks. I found out with all 4 of my kids at 19 weeks. I have a friend who worked in a hospital and she had ultrasounds pretty much every week (just because she could) and they could tell she was having a boy at 15 weeks. I would think 3d would be a little easier to tell, but just to be sure I would wait until closer to 20 weeks.
