My twins sat up on thier own when they were about 4 months old they did not like to lay down so when they fussed I held them up and with in 2 weeks they were sitting and now they are learning to crawl. Your baby will grow and learn at his own pace
My daughter could sit unassisted at 5mon but I had to put her in that position, she's still building the muscles she needs to be able to get there on her own. Our doctor was impressed that she was doing so well and said it wasn't a problem (I asked just in case).

My daughter sat up without any support at about 4 months, but she is very early in everything. I was told they should be sitting on their own at about 6 months. Practice makes perfect, if the baby seems ready, you can help prop them up or get a bumbo seat. But only if they are ready. Nothing should be rushed.

my second daughter started to sit up at about 7 1/2 months but my first daughter started when she was 5 months also. i think it all depends on when your baby is ready. your baby will know better than anyone when his little muscles are ready

Around 7 months she started to sit up by herself, but would still need a pillow behind her for a while because she would throw herself back. Once she was able to push herself up into a sitting postion (around 9 months) she was good to go.

I think my son started sitting up at about six months or so, I cannot be sure. But I do remember going into his room after his nap and he was sitting up looking at me (it didn't last long, he was still building muscles). A lot of times what I did was when I could tell that he wanted to sit up, I helped him so that he could work on the muscles and balancing. I would sit on the floor with him sitting in my lap and he seemed to really like that, I think it might have given him a little more incentive to sit up on his own. Hope it helps!
