My son is 10 months old and cruising round the furniture. He commando crawls but not on all fours yet. He is a premmie though born at 24 weeks and 4 days gestation. 10 months is his corrected (developmental age - if born when he was suppose to be) and actual age 14 months. They say the do catch up. To be honest being through what we have gone through I would be happy if he was just sitting LOL. The Pysio's etc tell us it can take a "normal" (full term baby) up to 18 months to start walking. Every baby is different and it is important not to worry if one 9 month old is walking and yours isn't.

My daughter started walking at 8 months. I put her in a walker everyday, at 4 months and she quickly started standing and and running over everyone in her her path. I think it made her legs stronger.

They should start to walk before 18 months. My first child didn't walked until 17 months. No fear she is now eight years old and is athletic and academically right on course too!

My daughter didn't start walking on her own until she was almost 16 months. Of course she also had no desire to crawl either!

My youngest started to walk at 13 months. I was soooo worried because my oldest was walking by mid 10th month. Everytime I went for my youngests monthly doctor appointment, I would tell him how conserned I was. The doctor kept telling me, "It's ok...He'll walk when he's ready." He also told me that children can start walking as late as their 15th month.

My children are all grown up now, but one walked at 10 months and my twins walked withing one day of each other, and that was around 14 months. Every child is different!
I am now a Registered Childminder and look after children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years. I have at present 2 children in my care and one started to walk at 11 months and the older of them started around 15 months. So all i can say on this subject is they will start to walk when they feel comfortable and confident, and when THEY are ready!!
I will be happy to offer my expertise and personal advise on most problems.
Kind Regards
Brenda x

My first was 17 months when he took his first step but he didn't crawl til he was nearly 12months. He did however say his first word at 9 months and had quite a big vocab by an early age. My second has just turned 12 months and doesn't look like he'll be walking soon although he did crawl earlier at 9 months. He also said his first word around that time and again says quite a lot of things. I heard that they tend to excel in either the language or physical but they can't do both at the same time.

Pulling up to stand at 7 months is a little ahead of average. but there are a lot of stages to go before walking. they have to practice getting steady on their feet, trying to let go. weight shifting. "walking" while holding furnature. I have 2 kids. My son walked at 10 months and pulled to stand at about 7 months. My daughter walked the week after her 1st birthday and pulled to stand at 7 months. So you never can tell! My daughter is the elder and with 2 physiotherapist parents we were doing everything to help facitiate her walking (call us crazy, we didn't know). But for our son we knew how much harder life would be with 2 toddlers toddling around (they are close in age) so we didn't try to facilitate and he walked sooner! I think he had a lot of motivation with his older sister being able to do more and take things from him and he couldn't get back at her. It's all about the motivation (for a child with normal development). A friend's neice was 18 months when she 1st walked and it was b/c her 2 much older siblings would get everything for her. She never had to move. 12 to 14 months is the usual.

Both of my children didn't start to walk until almost 13 months old. I was worried they were taking too long but the Doctor reassured me they would do it in their own time. Sure enough they did and they are now 6 and 4 and don't stop!

My baby was 15 Months old when she started walking. People thought it was strange and said she should be walking by now...but all babies are different and start when they are ready.

I have 3 children and they all 3 walked at different times and they never crawled they scooted on their bottoms I think they scooted due to our hard wood floor. I had 1 child start running at 10 months I had 1 walk at 12 months and the other walked at 14 months. If the child is walking around furniture dont worry they will start walking but if they are not pulling up and trying to walk around furniture at 11 or 12 months you probably should talk with your doctor.

Both my daughters were around a year in fact my eldest took her first steps on her 1st birthday but my son was walking by the time he was around 6 months i know thats very early but he always loved his feet and had very strong leges he was standing on them as soon as he could hold his own head up and would push himself up from sitting when ever he was on your lap they all take them when there ready and they all differ no 2 kids will do it the same time so just be reassured they will take them in their own time

My eldest son walked when he was just 8 mo.s old. I really don't even remember him crawling! My second (youngest) son didn't walk until he was a year old! I would have thought that with a brother walking he would have walked sooner! No way! But don't sweat it. They catch up with each other soon enough!

I used a jumper seat (the old fashioned johnny jump-up and my 1st son walked at 9 months, my 2nd son walked at 10 months and my daughter walked at 10 months. It usually happens anywhere from 10 months to 14 months...depending on the child and if there are other siblings for them to follow or try to follow around.

My son is almost 11 months and he took his first steps about a month ago. He is really good at walking around furniture now or walking with someone holding his hands. He will go solo for about 6 steps but anymore than than and he gets down and crawls. I think it's just faster for him to crawl still. But he's definitely getting there!

My daughter just started walking in the last 2 weeks and she is just over 18 months. Her gross motor skills were always delayed from the day she was born, the pediatrician checked her thoroughly, her brain and muscles were working fine and she was a very early talker, at 18 months she speaks like a 2 1/2 - 3 year old. We were about to take her to see a physiotherapist refered by our pediatrician and then she just took off by herself. I don't think she will ever be a great sports player but thats ok with me, and as my mother inlaw says, no healthy adult never walked.
