I personally can't remember my own but my youngest sister just got her periods back 5 months after giving birth to her second son in June. It can variey my eldest sister her baby is 8months going on 9 and she still hasn't had them return, mind you she is breastfeeding that may also play a factor in delaying the return of your period.

My period didn't happen until Feb 2008. I had my son in Jan 2007 and I breastfed until Jan 2008. When my monthly friend came back, I didn't miss her at all!

I think you can see from the replies that everyone is different, and it is all normal. My daughter is 18 months old, She is fully weaned now (was on 1 bf per day until just a few weeks ago), and I haven't started yet. (and no, I'm not sick or super thin, just lucky!).

if you are breastfeeding it will be alot longer before your period returns to normal. I got mine 3 months after the first bub, 9 and a half months after the second, 6 months after the third and 8 months after the last one. It usually takes about 3 months to settle down. If you are formula feeding you usually get it bout 6 weeks after the baby is born but I dont know how long before it returns to normal. Hope this has helped.

Exactly 8 months to the day after my daughter was born! I have been pumping the whole time and had just reduced it to twice a day. I think it took longer for me because I am pumping and I am very active.

I stopped breastfeeding at 4 weeks (had to start taking meds for ppd) and 2 days later i got my period! The post pardum bleeding stopped and then like a week later my monthly friend arrived! I'm must be one of the unlucky ones! But at least i got to get my mirena sooner cause my doc wanted to wait till i got my period back! Enjoy not having your period for as long as you can!!

It really depends if your breastfeeding or not. I did breastfeed my baby for almst 3 months and my period came after 2 1/2 months...

for me it was about 2 months after I stopped breatfeeding. And that was the same with both of my kids.

After birth of both my son Jakob~7 & Felicianna 13mos I got my period back within 5-6 weeks after. I was breast feeding both my kids too. I am really hoping I can go Period free for longer after this baby arrives.

My daughter is 8 mo old and my period still isn't right! I used to have a 3 day period. Now it is more like 12 days of light bleeding. I have an IUD- Mirena- which was put in at my 6 week checkup but that hasn't helped at all. I have been reading blogs about it and they say the time range can be anywhere from six weeks to two years to completely get back to normal. Eek! Oh how the lack of a period during pregnancy was..... peaceful. :)

It depends on how long you breast feed. The longer you breast feeder the long it takes to start your period. But remember you can still get pregnant!

Hey, with my first pregnancy it was about three months, and with my second it was immediately after recovering. I breastfed both of my children, and don't think it had an effect on my period...

I was breastfeeding and still am so it took a little longer to get it back (about 3 months). But it has been very irregular and my daughter is already a year old so it is taking awhile to straighten out. Sometimes I go two months without getting it and most of the time it lasts about two weeks these days. Things are finally starting to go back to "normal" but it has definitely taken awhile.

Quoting Jasmine:

Dear Jasmine, The books(all those that I saw) tell us four to six weeks of lochia. My own experience was really different and I am sharing it because I don't think that enough of the diversity is described by doctors and books. My lochia went on for more than 12 weeks. I called the hospital several times to tell them, it's still here, and they were not worried about me. I'm sure it contributed to my fatigue but aparently my experience was not out of the range of normal. I nursed both my kids but my period returned to its familiar patterns at about five months after childbirth nevertheless. Most of us do follow the physiological patterns of our mothers. if there's any chance that you have contact with her and can ask those questions, I suggest that. Best of luck.

if you nurse it won't come back until you are done, or until you stop nursing regularly. I had my baby in June and it still has yet to come back. Its awesome! Thats a good reason to nurse alone!

I still haven't gotten mine and my daughter is 8 months old. I've been told it's because i'm pumping and i won't get it back until i stop so we'll see.

I never have a period until I stop nursing. I just had my fifth child 4 months ago and this has been true for me with all my children. Everyone is different though.

First child it took 6wks 2nd 4wks and 3rd 6wks. Think the average is 6wks but ifd your breastfeeding it will take longer

i had my first child in June and it took about 9wks total from gross after the hospital bleeding to normal again...then i started the pill to become more accurate. but i guess everyone is different but its a good estimate.

its bee 6 wks this time and i havnt had my first yet but this is my 3rd child. with my ohter 2 it took about 6 wks. about 4 wks after the bleeding stopped. so i figure itll be another 1-2 wks for me. if you dont have a period by your 6wk checkup talk to your obgyn. it takes some women longer and i wouldnt be concerned but just in case check with them.
