My daughter is 17months and still takes some milk at night, I think I will wean her off when she is 2. My son weaned himself off just before he was 2. You will know when the time is right to try weaning off the milk, the first attempt doesn't always work! I would hope to have the milk finished before 2.5years. You should use 'follow on' milk for older babies as it has all the right nutrients they need, cows milk doesn't have enough nutritional bebefits.

It depends on your baby. If he/she is getting enough food at 12 months to keep them satisfied then ween away the formula. I took mine off at 12 months except for the evening bottle. I believe he was 15 months before I stopped with that bottle and switched to water at night. At 12 months, experiment and see what your baby does. I know there is a second level of formula for 12+ months but it gets expensive.

I swiched my son to regular milk at one year, and introduced it slowly so it didn't make him sick. Give half milk, half formula for a week. At 12 months babies are eating enough baby food that they don't need all the nutrients and calories from formula, they get it from their diet :)

there is formula that is for infants to six months. then there is from 6 months +, then there is toddler supplement 12 months and up which you can add to homo milk then 2%
there's no reason why a child should be completely taken off a type of formula or supplement completely unless a doctor asks you if they're getting all food groups and at least 1 good nap a day until they're about 3years old plus a daily vitamin and maybe a calcium sill like a tums or something.

The earliest you stop it is at 12 months. We were giving my baby 3 bottles a day; once in the morning, once midday, and once about 1 hour before bed. And feeding him real food along with it. At 12 months we took away his bottle, therefore we took away his formula all together and gave him regular milk. Ask your doctor about multivitamins if you are worried about his vitamins after taking away the formula. I believe they have a certain vitamin that babies can take. Every baby is different with the transition. My baby would spit up a little for a day or 2 anytime we made any changes in his diet. If your baby spit up a lot I suggest slowly transition the switch.

I'm sorry, I may correct my post a little bit, I remember I gave my baby breast milk till six months and then begin formula, till she was 12 months till around 20 months, then she got tires of formula and for suggestion of pediatrician we switch to cow milk, wich she didnt like so , since then she is eating cheeses, some butter, and kids essentials and pediasure, but again to be sure and on safe side, ask your pediatrician. :)

With my children I started by switching there bottles out whrn they where 11 mths. For instance their 1st bottle formula, 2nd bottle I gave 1% milk, so that it wouldn't be hard on their bowels. 3rd bottle formula..and so on...Daisy

a lot of people start transitioning to whole milk around 11 and 12 months and only give whole milk after a year that is what WIC really recommends also for parents after a yar they should be able to eat enough foods to get their nutrition from that

You can stop giving them formula and switch to whole milk at 12 months but I would discuss it w/your pediatrician first. My daughter actually didn't like the taste of whole milk and would only drink formula. To transition her, I mixed the formula and milk together starting out w/1 oz whole milk and 3 oz of formula and eventually tapering her off the formula. Sounds gross I know but it worked and now she loves her milk!

When she is 1 year. They say to go on whole milk until they are 2 then switch to 2% milk.

12 months or later. No sooner. I mixed it half and half to switch mine over. That made it easier not such a shock to their taste.

I think after 12 months. you start adding in milk gradually to Paxton's diet, replacing one of his formula bottles. Do that for a week then sub in another until you have completed the transition. If he seems to tolerate the dairy ok, you are good. I also started out mixing half formula half milk bottles until it was all milk. This helps him transition the taste better. It is coming all back to me now.
