If ever, not until 6 mo, but it's not recommended to give any kids juice anymore. All juice is is the natural sugars from the fruit without the fiber. Without the fiber, you might as well give them candy because it is just sugar in their body. It is now dubbed "liquid candy" by many pediatricians and it is recommended, not only for babies and kids, but for us to treat it as we would a treat. Even with my older kids, we treat juice as we would dessert or junk food. We encourage them to have the actual fruit for the benefits fruit offers, getting the natural fibers so it acts like fruit not sugar.

My little one is 14 months and has only ever had milk or water. Hes happy with the water and drinks lots during the day, with just a morning and bedtime milk bottle. Hes quite happy with it as he doesnt know any different, and I intend to keep it that way as long as I can!

My daughter is two and has still never had juice. She drinks water and milk. My Dr. said there is really no nutritonal value in juice. It has a lot of sugar. Your daughter can get everything that there is in juice in fruits and vegetables which also have natural sugar in them. But if I were to give her juice I think I would wait until 6months to a year. Babies really don't need anything besides formula/breast milk for the first year.

Hi Laura:

I am a nurse and a mother.  I work in a clinic where we are always giving advice to moms

about health and nutrition!!  Our advice comes from the USDA and the American Academy of Pediatrics that a child at 3 months of age shouldn't be having juice yet--especially homemade juices.  Apple juice is only given at that young of an age to assist with constipation problems.  And be careful how much apple juice you give to any child!!  There is something in the pectin of the apple juice that eats away at the enamel on their teeth.  Hope this helps you in the future and now and if you have any more questions I would be happy to answer what I can.  Brenda

My doctor told me that it is not necessary to introduce juice at all. It has hardly any health benefits and the sugar it too much (even no sugar added) which leads to childhood obesity. It is better to give them the fruit. Beside my daughter never liked it so we just stick with water(which she loves) and formula. Hope this helps.

I didn't give my little one juice until he was two, and he still prefers water.

Don't substitute Gatorade for Pedialyte for babies or toddlers. The sugar in Gatorade makes the diarrhea worse, increasing the dehydration, especially under the age of 3.

yes juice isnt necessary but the electrolites are good for babies. if they ever are in need of pedialite for dehydration or diarrhea..., go with gatoraide half water tho.. same thing and alot less expensive. :)

i did at 6 months although you arent advised to give them more than 6-8 ounces of water or juice a day... too much water for a baby is not good. always remember...half juice half water. :)

My daughter is 18 months old and her pediatrician still says no juice. She has had a small amount of various juices offered a few times over the last six months, but she doesn't seem to care for any of them. She does fine with milk and water and isn't missing out on anything!

6-7 months old and 50% dilution with water... is what we did... helps the little tummy adjust to the acids in juies... GERBER had the "baby juice.. it is pretty much apple juice at a 50% dilution but for a JACKED up price!

I don't believe that juice is required at all, why introduced them to sugar at this age?? My son has just turned 2 and has only ever had formula (up until 1) water and milk thats it, there is no need for juice...

I agree! My daughter is now 18 months old and has never had juice. My pediatrician is against juice and has always told me that there is no real benefit to giving it to her. So she gets her milk and then she gets water in leiu of juice. I'm relieved that it is one less thing to get from the grocery store!

I think it is recommended to start at 6 moths or so. Only about 2oz per day. Babies don't need much.

some baby juice is quite expensive so if you dont want to keep paying out that price for juice they do a cheaper baby juice in tesco but it isnt cow and gate

my son is 4 months on the 5th dec and we have already introduced baby juice to him it says on the bottle from 4 months. my son loves it. it wont hurt giving a baby juice a bit early because they get thirsty aswell as hungry or if you dont want to give them juice yet give them cooled down boiled water.

I've heard that white grape baby juice is a good way to start. It's not as sweet. I started my oldest on white grape, when he was about 8 months and he is now almost 7 years old. His teeth are in great shape (we started brushing his teeth with fluoride free toothpaste by one year and would wipe teeth down with a wet washcloth before that before nap and bed time. He is not a big sweets eater. My youngest is being raised the same way.

Our pediatrician recommended waiting until he/she is a year before introducing juice. A 3 month hold may not be able to digest juice so well, especially apple. I would definitely suggest waiting.

Hi Laura My guys didn,t start having juice until they were around 3 1/2 as thay were very happy with water and the earlier you give juice the child is less likely to enjoy water as well as the water will was out any toxins in the liver and kidneys and its easier to buy a bottle of mineral water when thay are older. So the answer in my opinion is leave it as late as poss and introduce water to your beautiful girl around 3-4 months in a beaker love to you all (sorry i went on a bit) Kate cripps

Babies don't need juice. We gave our daughter breastmilk and water until she started to wean. Now, she mainly drinks whole milk and sometimes water.

NEVER!!! Why would you?. At 3 months all she should have is milk. My son is 8 and he loves water and milk. Of course he does have juice at times, birthday's etc... But why give her a taste for sweet things? Think of her teeth. To be honest I thought this was a joke.

it is too rich for a 3 month old the baby juices that you buy in the shops can be strong aswell youre best to dilute them down with water

Also when you do introduce fruit juice after 6 months it should be well diluted - 1 part jiuce to 5 parts water and NEVER from concentrate

Kidneys aren't developed yet nor will her stomach be able to cope with the acid. Wait till 6 months for full development of internal organs before weaning

My daughter only had it a couple times before she was one and that was 100% pure juice and very watered down. She is 19 months now and still only has is a couple times a month. It's not necessary if they are getting all of their fruits and veggies and is really hard on their teeth. When they are under a year, they get all the vitamins they need from their breastmilk or formula and jarred food. But if you do decide to give it to her, wait until she is at least 6 months.

3 months is too early it is suggested that you wait till she is 6 moths. Her little system will be more developed and more able to handle it.

I am also a dentist and apple juice is very acidic to the enamel and will cause decay. I would opt for water and remember filtered water will filter out the fluoride. If she is 3 months and on formula she may be getting enough in her formula. Check it out on the label.

There is actually no real need to introduce a baby to juice at all. I never intoriduced it to my kids until they were quite a bit older. Why give them a taste for sweet drinks if you don't have to? If you feel that a drink should be introduced, other than milk/formula, why not small amounts of water?

I gave my daughter diluted baby juice at 5 months to taste. And now she gets about an ounce after her cereal for lunch.

my doctor told me to start my twins on juice when they were 4 months old...just make sure you mix it with water....do half and half to start with and then 2 or 3 weeks after that you can do like 4 oz of juice and 2 of water....my doctor told me not to give my girls more than 6 oz a day until they were about 9 months...giving juice to your baby will not hurt her but it is best to wait til she starts eating baby food...which i also started my girls on when they were 4 months...hope this helps

Thats the main thing Laura is making sure that she gets her milk.... because the juice doesn't have the same nutrition that milk does! I think you are going to be fine, she will also let you know when she is ready as well! And congrats on her being a good baby.....

Hello Laura

Ive just intorduced apple juice to my daughter this week and she is 6 months. I bought it in the baby food section and its says 6mths plus, i just diluted it a bit for her. She seems to enjoy a few drinks here and there but i dont allow her to have to much. But of course every baby is different but i would say wait till at least 6 months.

My daughter is 5 and half months old and we just started about 2 weeks ago introducing her to juice, but only baby juice! At 3 months of course your doctor is going to suggest you wait, the most important thing for a 3 month old is their milk.... so if you are worried about when to give your baby juice, talk with your pediatrician, becasue every baby is different!!
