When is it okay for you baby to sleep on his side?

My son is 20 weeks old and has just started to sleep on his side in his crib. When I looked in his crib he was on his stomach and I had to move him back onto his back. They all say that is it not good for your babies to sleep on their stomach. I am getting a little concerned, please help me out.

Roll up a towel or small blanket and place it against his tummy that way he cant roll forwards only backwards :)
