Quoting Nicole:

I just had to take a nutrtion class, because I am on the WIC program. They told me to introduce a cup at 6 months, the same time you introduce juice. I was told to use a wide mouth regular cup. Sippy cups can cause some malformation and they have to suck too hard to get what they want out of them.

Hello nicole

What do u mean by a wide mouth regular cup?

My son is almost 6 months and I've already introduced one to him. He can hold it and get the spout into his mouth, but he's still figuring out how to drink the liquid. I just let him try it every day, no rush I'm sure he'll get it when he's ready.

I would say about 8-9 months... that way their teeth are already in and they can start transforming from a bottle to a sippy cup.  My son is almost 4 and he did just fine.

I would let my kids use cups from about 5 months.  We use the ones with straws.  The ones with straws are supposed to be better for the development of their mouth and jaws.  Besides that my kids never could figure out how to use a sippy cup, they always preferred the straws.  Use breastmilk, formula or apple juice, no water  or very little of it (their bodies can not process water).

It is a personal choice.. I chose to give sippy cups right when the child starts eating solids in a high chair... so my son started with them at about 5 months... we use the Nuby 7oz with the handles from the bottom, the flow is a bit slower and he actually has to suck to get it out, so it does okay... we still have some that leaks out since it certainly comes out faster than his bottles (or my milk!) but I have found it to be the easiest cup for him to learn with!

I think ur supposed to start offering water from around 6 months when milk feeds are gradually reduced with the introduction of solids so I guess u would introduce a sippy cup from around then although my son wont drink water from a spout only a teat so I use an avent cup with ahndles and a bottle teat instead of the spout. Good Luck!!!

I cant remember the age mine where but as soon as they can hold a cup with both hands and bring it to their mouth I would say about a yr old maby.....couldbe sooner but every baby is different.......good luck!!!

I started my son on a sippy around 10 months, the same time I began introducing 'grown up' food. I started replacing bottles with cups at snacktime, and through the next few weeks slowly weened him down. Morning and evening bottles were the last to go,but he was done with bottles well before his first birthday. Best of luck!!
