When my kids were around 18 months, and crawling out of their cribs was when I switched. I never used a toddler bed. I went straight to a single bed, with one side against the wall, and a safety rail (can buy at wal-mart) on the other side. I liked doing this, because then I didn't have to transition them into yet another bed a year or two later. Then when I noticed that they were not going to fall out of bed, I just took off the safety rail.

I moved my daughter to a toddler bed when she climbed out of her crib (yes, that very day). She was 18 months and I didn't want her hurting herself. If he's not climbing out of his crib I would probably wait...but if you're nervous about it then switching now would probably be okay.

A toddler bed. He used to sleep all night through and now he started to become unsettled and removes every thing out of his cot so im just unsure whether i should wait a little longer to see if he tries to get out himself or move him before he can climb out. ?

A toddler bed? Or a twin size bed? It depends. Some parents switch their child to a toddler bed as early as 15 to 18 months. Some wait until their child turns 2 years old. Some parents never use a toddler bed and just keep their child in a crib until they are 2 or 3 years old and then move them to a twin size bed. I switched both my kids at around 18 to 20 months to a toddler bed. They transitioned well.

Some signs you can look for are:

Does your child want out of the crib?
Is your child outgrowing their crib?
Does your child try to climb out of the crib?

I think this one depends on the baby and your physical living arrangements. If the child is comfortable and still sleeping all night in a crib, then why change? If your little one is restless at night and didn't used to be, he or she might be feeling cramped and needs to move up to a twin- with rails, of course. All bets are off if yours can get out of the crib - MUCH safer to move to a bigger bed closer to the floor.
